Elderly woman robbed by two men with chilli powder

Jaipur: Two men were arrested Wednesday for throwing chilli powder on a 70-year-old woman and robbing her earrings in a secluded area near Jhalana Doongri on May 19. The accused also robbed Rs 20,000 in cash.
The accused were identified as Aniket alias Kalu and Shahil Gujarati. They were found with injuries sustained while fleeing over barbed-wire fencing.
The complainant, Manni Devi, a resident of Shiv Colony in Jhalana Doongri, went to graze her cattle around 1pm when she was ambushed. While seated near the forest area, two young men approached her from behind, incapacitated her with chilli powder, and tore off her earrings and necklace.
The earrings were yanked with such force that her ears began bleeding.
The duo then fled with her cash and ornaments. Despite her injuries, Manni Devi was able to recognise one of the attackers as Aniket, a local youth known to her. She filed a complaint at the local police station, accompanied by her son Ramkishan. Upon receiving a PCR alert, a police team reached the scene and rushed the injured woman to SMS Hospital. 17 arrests, 11 FIRs daily: Haryana drug fight hits new high
Chandigarh: With an average of 17 arrests and 11 FIRs daily in the first six months of the year, Haryana's drug fight is at a new high. From Jan to June, police registered 1,858 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a 10.81% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB). Arrests also climbed nearly 28%, with 3,051 people taken into custody. Drug seizures have surged as well. Heroin confiscations rose by 62.28%, cocaine by 93.15%, and MDMA by 86.21%. Meanwhile, seizures of tablets, opium mixer camper, opium plants, and injections have seen declines. The data also showed a 28.75% increase in serious drug-related cases compared to the same period last year. Arrests of suspects from outside Haryana increased by 34.5%, highlighting efforts to dismantle interstate smuggling networks. Cases involving multiple accused also nearly doubled, from 471 last year to 850 this year. O P Singh, DGP, HSNCB, informed that what stands out this year is the state's sharper focus on large-scale cases. "In 2025 so far, Haryana registered 233 commercial quantity cases, up from 166 last year —a nearly 29% jump. These cases involved larger amounts of drugs, often linked to organised networks. Autorikshaw drivers demand action against unauthorised autos in city
Kalaburagi: The proliferation of unauthorised autorickshaws and bike taxis in Kalaburagi has significantly impacted the livelihood of permitted autorickshaw drivers. The Autorickshaw Drivers' Association has highlighted that there are approximately 1,000 electric autos operating without proper permits, while another 1,500 to 2,000 autos with taluk licenses are plying within city limits. The situation has been further compounded by the govt's guarantee power scheme, which has resulted in a 50% reduction in the earnings of legitimate auto drivers. Licensed drivers are struggling to meet their financial obligations, including house rent, children's education fees, and vehicle loan repayments. The association's president, Laxmikant Malipatil, has urged immediate action from authorities to address this growing concern. He emphasised the need for stricter enforcement measures and the confiscation of unauthorised vehicles operating within the city limits. The challenges faced by auto drivers are exemplified by drivers like Mallikarjun, who previously earned between Rs 13,000 to Rs 15,000 monthly by transporting school children. Recent traffic police regulations regarding safety measures have restricted the number of school children that can be transported, reducing his monthly earnings to approximately Rs 8,000. Local authorities are being urged to take swift action to regulate the transport sector effectively, while ensuring the livelihood of legitimate auto drivers is protected. If authorities control the operation of illegal autorickshaws in Kalaburagi city, the licensed rickshaw operators would experience increased passenger demand for their services. Speaking to TOI, Kalaburagi city police commissioner Sharanappa SD stated that the police department and RTO are jointly seizing autorickshaws, and around 300 non-permit autorickshaws have already been seized. 1 2 3 4 Jaipur: Ending weeks of speculation and interim leadership in state police, the Rajasthan govt Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar Sharma as the new Director General of Police (DGP). The 1990-batch officer of Rajasthan cadre assumed charge in the evening and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the police headquarters here. Sharma's appointment follows his premature repatriation from central deputation, where he served as the Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) in New Delhi. His return fills the leadership void created after former DGP UR Sahoo was appointed Rajasthan Public Service Commission chairperson on June 10 and the brief interim charge of the state police force held by DG (ACB) Ravi Prakash Meharda, who retired on June 30. In a formal order, the Department of Personnel announced that Sharma will serve as the head of state police for a period of two years, irrespective of his age of superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has also been placed in the apex pay scale (Level 17) with a fixed monthly salary of Rs 2.25 lakh. He also served CBI at Jaipur and Delhi and handled Jaipur's traffic division. Originally from Mathura, Sharma holds MA and MPhil degrees. His first posting was in 1992 as Assistant SP in Jodhpur City. He was promoted to DIG in 2006 and later served in Crime Branch at the police headquarters. For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Police Medal in 2006 and the President's Police Medal in 2014.
