Four people died on board a plane that crashed after taking off from London Southend Airport, British police said on Monday.
The medical transport plane bound for the Netherlands crashed on Sunday.
Witnesses told of seeing a 'fireball', while images of fire and black smoke were shared on social media.
In a statement at the airport, Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of Essex Police said: 'Yesterday afternoon, an aircraft which had landed here earlier in the day took off bound for the Netherlands.
'Shortly after take off, it got into difficulty and crashed within the airport boundary.
'Sadly, we can now confirm that all four people on board died.
'We are working to officially confirm their identities. At this stage, we believe all four are foreign nationals.'
The airport will stay closed until further notice.
Zeusch Aviation, based at Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands, confirmed its SUZ1 flight had been 'involved in an accident' at the airport.
The statement said the company was 'actively supporting the authorities with the investigation', adding: 'Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.'
Zeusch Aviation's website says the plane – a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air – can be used for medical flights to transport patients or organs.
The plane had flown from the Greek capital Athens to Pula in Croatia on Sunday before heading to Southend. It was scheduled to return to Lelystad later on Sunday.
Southend Airport said its 'thoughts are with those affected' by the crash.
John Johnson, who was at the airport with his children and wife on Sunday, said they saw a 'big fireball' after the plane crashed 'head first into the ground.'
Johnson, told PA that before the plane took off, 'we all waved at the pilots, and they all waved back at us.'
He added: 'It took off and about three or four seconds after taking off, it started to bank heavily to its left, and then within a few seconds of that happening, it more or less inverted and crashed just head first into the ground.

Emergency declared on Greek island of Chios as fires rage
dpa Athens Firefighters were continuing on Monday to battle three major blazes that broke out almost simultaneously on the Greek island of Chios for the second day in a row. The island authorities declared a state of emergency, allowing central coordination of the firefighting operations and for special units to be summoned from the Greek mainland. So far, 17 villages and a migrant reception centre have been evacuated on the Aegean island near the Turkish coast. Hundreds of people have been brought to safety. According to reports from Monday, tourists are not currently at risk. Strong winds continue to fan the flames and make the firefighters' work more difficult, Greek media reported. According to the local authorities, almost 200 firefighters with 38 fire engines and numerous helicopters and aeroplanes were deployed to help douse the flames. Additional reinforcements have arrived by boat from the mainland. Videos shared by the local news portal showed flames sweeping across parts of the island. Beyond the threat to homes, residents are concerned about the island's unique mastic groves. The Pistacia lentiscus plant, which produces the valuable resin known as mastic, grows only in the southern part of Chios. Mastic is used in chewing gum, liqueurs, desserts, cosmetics and medicine - and it is a vital part of the local economy. A major fire in 2012 destroyed nearly half of the groves, with devastating effects on livelihoods.
