Rafizi backs PKR disciplinary board's fair campaign call, warns against selective enforcement

KOTA BARU: PKR deputy president candidate Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has agreed with the PKR disciplinary board's recommendation to refrain from tarnishing the party's image or launching personal attacks but emphasised that the guidelines must be applied fairly to all.
Rafizi, who is also the Economy Minister, said the board's guidelines are capable of promoting healthy competition within the party, but they must be implemented consistently.
"If people recall the personal attacks against me, they happened suddenly, with statement after statement being issued, including claims of rejection by the grassroots.
"Later, statements emerged accusing me of neglecting the grassroots. These are baseless allegations, and the PKR disciplinary board must take action against all parties responsible for creating this situation.
"In addition, I have also been targeted by irresponsible groups on social media, which should not occur.
"However, I view this as part of the challenges during the campaign period," he said at a press conference after the Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) tour programme at the state National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Complex in Tanjong Chat last night.
Also present were PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar and PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Rafizi expressed his hope that his opponents would not "throw stones and hide their hands" by attacking him and then reporting him to the disciplinary board when he responds, as if they had done nothing wrong.
"The process is straightforward. If anyone feels that a candidate has violated party protocols, they can lodge a complaint, and the disciplinary board can then conduct a fair investigation.
"As for me, if there is a desire to debate and determine who is better, I will highlight my opponent's weaknesses, and you can do the same. I don't go around making complaints or reports," he said.
Previously, the media reported that the PKR disciplinary board had reminded all candidates and their supporters not to tarnish the party's image and to refrain from personal attacks and baseless accusations during the final stage of the party elections.
Its chairperson, Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew, said candidates should instead focus their campaigns on policy discussions and ideas.
She said actions involving personal attacks, open conflict, and making derogatory public statements against party members are inappropriate, unacceptable, and would only harm party unity.

PKR Serian chief proposes new Bung Sadung state seat for fairer development

Senior William Rade KUCHING (July 24): A new state seat must be created in Serian Division to ensure equal development and fairer allocation of government funds, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Serian chief Senior William Rade. He proposed this new constituency be named Bung Sadung, after an iconic mountain in the Bidayuh-majority area, and strongly believed the location holds great potential for agrotourism and agricultural activities that could boost the local economy. He explained the proposed constituency should comprise villages surrounding Bung Sadung, those around the Padawan link road, and nearby villages. 'The villages in this proposed new constituency can number up to 50, and are mostly Bidayuh villages. Under a new constituency, these villages will benefit from more focused efforts to boost the local economy, including agrotourism. 'Also, with this new constituency, it is our hope there will be a township built there as the administrative centre and rural growth centre, which is also good for the local economy,' he said. Senior made these remarks when commenting on the recent passing of the Dewan Undangan Negeri (Composition of Membership) Bill, 2025 by the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), which paved the way for an increase in the number of state constituencies from 82 to 99. He said that the increase of 17 new seats should ensure there is no longer under-representation of the people, especially in constituencies which are vast in size. He also noted that the new constituency proposed by him would take up mostly villages which are currently in the Tebedu state constituency 'Look at it this way, these villages will benefit under bigger government funding, and a lot of development projects can be implemented when placed under this new constituency. For Tebedu, there can be more focus towards developing it as the Gateway to Sarawak, particularly since the Indonesian new capital city is being built in Kalimantan,' he said. He hoped the local leaders, professionals and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will support the idea for this proposed new constituency and the name suggested for it. 'On the behalf of the people, I request the Election Commission (EC) will look into the matter seriously during the redelineation exercise. This is for the long-term growth of the area. 'The area is growing in population and number of settlements, and the people need a ADUN (assemblyman) to servs the rea effectively,' he said. If the idea is not materialised, he is worried that the people there will further miss out on development and financial spin-offs, as it will take up to another 10 years for another redelineation exercise to take place. 'We hope everyone can support this idea. Now it is the best opportunity to realise this new constituency, under this stable government led by PMX (current Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim),' he added. PKR Sibuti branch applauds Anwar's cost of living relief initiatives

Zulhaidah Suboh MIRI (July 24): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sibuti branch has lauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent announcement of several key initiatives to ease the rising cost of living, describing them as timely, inclusive, and beneficial to all Malaysians. Its deputy chief Zulhaidah Suboh said the introduction of the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme for all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above would provide immediate relief, particularly for lower-income groups. 'This form of individual-based assistance will directly improve household purchasing power. For instance, a household with four adult members would receive RM400,' she said in a statement yesterday. The assistance, which will be disbursed via MyKad, can be utilised from Aug 31 to Dec 31, this year. Zulhaidah also welcomed the government's decision to reduce the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per litre for Malaysians—down from the current RM2.05—under a newly targeted subsidy mechanism, with full details to be announced by the end of September this year. 'This will significantly lower daily transport costs and help control the prices of essential goods, benefitting the rakyat as a whole,' she added. Zulhaidah also commended the government's decision to double the allocation for the Rahmah Madani Sales Programme to RM600 million, saying it would make affordable basic necessities more accessible to rural and remote communities. 'The increased allocation will widen access to essential goods at reasonable prices, especially for B40 and M40 households living in the rural and the interior,' she noted. She further expressed appredciation for the announcement of an additional public holiday on Sept 15 in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations. 'This holiday not only honours the spirit of unity and the nation's formation, but also encourages domestic family activities and tourism,' she said. Zulhaidah stressed that the initiatives announced by Anwar are not short-term populist measures, but part of a broader, balanced strategy aimed at supporting people's welfare while maintaining economic stability. 'These initiatives reflect a caring and practical approach that should be commended. We thank YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Unity Government for their continued commitment to building a Malaysia Madani.'
