Scratch and lose: Mukah man poorer by over RM20,000 in bid to claim ‘prize' worth nearly RM1 mln
MUKAH (July 15): A 43-year-old man here lost RM22,856 after falling victim to a 'scratch and win' scam conducted during a Facebook livestream believed to have been conducted from abroad.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the victim had initially purchased two 'scratch and win' cards from a website promoted during the livestream.
'After scratching the cards, the man was told he had won a prize worth RM956,520. However, he was instructed to pay a 20 per cent tax in order to claim the prize,' he said in a statement today.
The victim went on to make four transfers totalling RM22,856 to three different bank accounts, purportedly for the tax and further card purchases.
However, he became suspicious when more questionable payment requests were made, and eventually realised he had been scammed after he was no longer able to access the Facebook page.
Muhammad Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and urged the public to remain vigilant when engaging in financial transactions online, especially with unfamiliar parties.
'We advise the public not to be easily swayed by lucrative offers, particularly those that require upfront payments to claim rewards. If in doubt, seek advice or lodge a report immediately,' he added. Mukah scam scratch and win

[UPDATED] Police confirm nudity at marriage motivation programme
SHAH ALAM: Police have confirmed that nudity occurred during the recent eHati marriage motivation programme. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said four facilitators were involved in a "rebirth" ritual during the event where they were naked. "Based on our investigations, participants were charged between RM6,000 and RM9,000 for two separate packages. "Those who paid for the RM9,000 package were granted access to a 'Queens Night' scene where nudity was involved," he told reporters today. He said investigations revealed that participants included professionals and civil servants. "The participants came from all over the country. One of them was traced and caught in Kedah. "Based on our checks, the event was not religious or Islamic in nature but based more on motivation," he said, adding that participants from different religions were also involved as it aimed to help them rediscover happiness. He said these programmes had been conducted in the past but police believed this was the first time the "Queens Night" ritual was performed. "We have gathered various liquid samples from the event for further analysis by the Chemistry Department to identify if they were laced with drugs or prohibited substances. "We have a list of the 50 people, including participants, who attended the event. "To date, we have already recorded statements from 30 of them, including the organisers and facilitators. "Those who have yet to come forward should do so immediately," he said, adding that stern action would be taken, including making arrests. It was reported that eHati International Sdn Bhd founders Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, along with four others, have been remanded for three days. The remand order was issued by magistrate Ameera Mastura Khamis after the four women and two men, aged 26 to 57, were brought before the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court. They are being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, Section 294 of the Penal Code for indecent behaviour, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act. Lawyer Datuk M. Reza Hassan, who is representing four of the six, including the couple and their child, said he has filed an application to review the decision to allow a three-day remand. Yesterday, it was reported that Diyana and Rahim were detained after giving their statements at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters. The couple have denied allegations of spiked drinks and deviant practices at one of their recent events. They also said they have lodged a police report and a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over the claims.

Their arrest was also made under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 336) which pertains to insulting behaviour. The duo's home was also raided by the police after they had given their statements at police headquarters. They explained that they are certified practitioners in hypnotherapy, and that all of their company programmes follow the ethical standards of local values and cultures. According to their website, eHati's programme modules include sessions on breathwork, Trauma Release Exercise, and hypnotherapy to help participants achieve inner and mental calmness. She also claimed there was a drink called 'Piya' being given to participants, which was allegedly spiked with a hallucinogenic substance to discard inhibitions. Masyitah has been actively criticising eHati and its programmes on Facebook, calling them out for conducting lewd activities and deviant practices that go against the teachings of Islam. Junkie duo nabbed over break-in, theft in Ulu Krian to fund drug habit

SARATOK (July 16): Two drug addicts were arrested Tuesday in connection with a break-in at a site cabin belonging to a telecommunications infrastructure company at the Ulu Krian junction here. Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the arrest of the suspects, aged 25 and 29, took place at a house in Taman Seroja Indah at about 8pm, five hours after a report on the incident was lodged by the site manager. 'The raiding team was able to recover stolen items worth RM19,350, namely a generator, ladder, two outdoor units (ODU), and two inverters. 'A car believed to have been used by the suspects was also seized,' he said in a statement today. He added both suspects were later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
