Tax, RON95 subsidy, judiciary issues raised in PM's meeting with BN MPs
Anwar said these were among the matters he addressed during the session with the BN MPs.
"This is how it works. Sometimes on Mondays, I meet with Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs, which is routine.
"So, (Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk Seri (Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) suggested that I also meet with BN MPs.
"I agreed, so we had the meeting yesterday. The BN MPs understood and gave their full cooperation on these matters, and I will continue to engage with them moving forward," he told reporters after a meeting with the state leadership councils of PKR in Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan here today.
It was reported yesterday that Anwar met with BN MPs at his official residence in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, said today's leadership council meeting also touched on current issues including the government's ongoing efforts to combat corruption.
"I outlined the steps we've taken against major corruption cases, which have prompted certain groups to unite in attacking us.
"That is the key point. For them, corruption no longer seems to be a serious issue. But for us, it remains critical because it concerns governance," he said.
Anwar also said he had explained the process for appointing the Chief Justice, reiterating that all parties must respect the procedures outlined in the Federal Constitution.

Senator Abun Sui Anyit KUCHING (July 13): Senator Abun Sui Anyit hopes one of the 17 new state seats for Sarawak will be located between Telang Usan and Belaga districts. The PKR Hulu Rajang division head said this area – home to Orang Ulu communities like the Kenyah, Kayan, Penan, Punan, and Sekapan – is vast and among the most remote and logistically challenging in Sarawak. He was responding to news reports quoting Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as saying the increase of state seats from 82 to 99 in Sarawak was in line with the state's geography. On July 7, the State Legislative Assembly passed the Dewan Undangan Negeri (Composition of Membership) Bill, 2025 to add 17 new seats. According to Abun Sui, the Election Commission (EC) and the Sarawak government must ensure that this increase in seats is not merely symbolic or political, but truly guarantees inclusivity and justice for all ethnicities and regions, including rural areas which have been underrepresented. 'The people of Belaga district who have sacrificed a lot for the two mega hydroelectric projects — Bakun Dam and Murum Dam — have long hoped for Belaga to be upgraded to the 13th division of Sarawak. Suddenly championing Sabah rights

I wonder if one of them is the same one who vigorously defended convicted former PM Najib Razak, insisting there was no such RM42 billion 1MDB scandal. He also said Sabahans should just celebrate Malaya's independence on Aug. 31 instead of Sept.16 (Malaysia Day, it was carried in your paper). He started his political career in PBS, then jumped to Umno where he realised his dream briefly, quickly dumped Umno and joined PKR when Umno was rejected. He was probably hoping to lead PKR in Sabah. But when he found it was not so easy, he wormed his way back to Umno and is now issuing statements regularly to portals like FMT suddenly championing Sabah. Zahid says Anwar addressed judicial appointment issues with BN MPs
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified issues related to judicial appointments during a meeting with Barisan Nasional MPs, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. According to Free Malaysia Today, Zahid said the matter was among the issues raised during the one-hour meeting on Friday. 'The king would take into account the personality and background of the prospective appointee when deciding on the matter and we should respect the decision,' he told reporters after opening the Selayang Umno divisional meeting in Sungai Buloh. Zahid said BN held the view that the appointment of the chief justice should not be politicised. He also said BN believed that any royal commission of inquiry into judicial appointments would contradict the government's stance, as stated by law and institutional reform minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Azalina previously said the government would study the best practices of other countries in appointing judges, with preliminary comparative research to be conducted involving the systems in the UK, India, Australia and Singapore. Delays in filling top positions in the judiciary have prompted calls for a public inquiry and a parliamentary hearing. The chief justice and the president of the Court of Appeal have both recently retired. Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Hashim is now serving as acting chief justice, while Federal Court judge Datuk Zabariah Yusof is the acting Court of Appeal president.
