Danny Dyer breaks BAFTA Awards rule as host Alan Cumming is forced to apologise
Danny Dyer was elated to win a coveted BAFTA Award on Sunday, but host Alan Cumming quickly apologised for the star's actions. Danny was presented the BAFTA for Best Male Performance in a Comedy and he couldn't hide his delight.
The former EastEnders man won the accolade for his performance in Sky Comedy series Mr Bigstuff. When it cameto accepting the prize, Dyer admitted: "The acting was so bad it was funny".
He then stunned the audience by swearing several times, despite having being warned early about the Bafta rules. He said he was getting 'choked up' as he gave his acceptance speech on stage at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Dedicating the gong to writer Ryan Sampson, Danny said: "He's one of the greatest people ever to come out of Rotherham - not saying much. You won this for me mate."
He then added: "Girls - Sunni, Dani, I done it," before breaking the rules, emphatically saying: "I f***ing done it." The 47-year-old star's vocab left Alan Cumming needing to say he was 'asked to apologise' for the language from Danny.
He wasn't the only one to break the no swearing rule, though. Sophie Wilan was also a rule breaker during her speech for Alma's Not Normal winning best Scripted Comedy.
'It's been s*** hot,' she said. She soon realised her error and covered her mouth. However, her mishap was well received by the star-studded crowd, who laughed at her actions.
Elsewhere, the BBC won the sport Bafta TV award for its coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics, while host Alan Cumming also quizzed Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon on the mysterious fishing trip from the hugely popular BBC series.
The Welsh star's character Bryn West and his nephew Jason are constantly asked by members of their family in the sitcom about their unknown fishing trip in which they go camping together. However, each character swore to keep it secret.
Alan turned to Rob, who was sitting with fellow Gavin And Stacey actors in the Bafta audience, to ask about the trip. 'Please answer it for us now. Uncle Bryn, what actually happened in that camping trip?,' he said.
Brydon began to speak and replied 'I never talk' before Alan cuts him off and moves onto the next nomination, which received huge applause and laughter at the eveng.
'Oh, sorry, Rob. We've got to go straight on with the next award. We'll pick it up at next year's Bafta,' he joked.
Other award winners on the night included The Jury: Murder Trial, which won Best Reality programme. It pipped The Traitors to the title.
Collecting the award, producer Ed Kellie said: 'This proves that reality TV can actually be about something.'

In an interview on Good Morning Britain with Kate Garraway and Ed Balls this morning, contestant Sarah Shafi claimed she felt "uncomfortable" while filming the series which is set to air this week. Earlier this month, Wallace and Torode were both officially sacked from MasterChef after law firm Lewis Silkin upheld 45 out of 85 complaints against Wallace of inappropriate behaviour. It was later announced that Torode's contract would not be renewed following an upheld complaint of racist language against him - which he's said he has no recollection of. It comes after John Torode's wife Lisa Faulkner breaks her silence after his MasterChef sacking. Sarah, who says she believes the show shouldn't have gone ahead at all, told Kate Garraway and Ed Balls: "For me, it didn't feel as faithful to the food as I thought it would be. At the same time, I felt uncomfortable around the presenters. "It was a big deal to me. I'm an older woman, or a woman of that certain age and you can spot that kind of 'creep' and you think, 'I'll just get on with it.'" Continuing, Sarah said: "After I left the show, the main thing I felt was relief." Continuing the conversation about whether the show should continue to air, Ed said: "The annoying thing is, that it would have been better if they kept you in the show, and cut out Gregg Wallace and John Torode and put in some other presenter instead. I guess they felt they couldn't do that without undermining the integrity of the whole show." Shafi herself suggested the whole series be cut, although she said she wasn't given a reason why that couldn't happen, "other than it could be life changing for all the contestants." A spokesperson for Banijay said: "We have no record of Sarah raising concerns with producers at the time of filming, however when raised during the formal investigation process we thoroughly assessed her claims, including reviewing relevant programme rushes. "These do not support her versions of events regarding inappropriate comments or actions by Gregg Wallace which Sarah has acknowledged." A spokesperson for the BBC said: "As we said when we announced the show would be aired, this was not an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone would agree with it. Banijay consulted with all the contestants before that decision was made and there was widespread support for it going ahead. "We are sorry that this contestant does not support the decision and we are grateful she raised this with both the BBC and Banijay." The Mirror has reached out to Banijay for comment.

Wedding drama confirmed for another popular Coronation Street couple
We love a soap wedding, and in Coronation Street the wedding of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) is the setting for another proposal – meaning another wedding will soon be on the way. Dev and Bernie's big day has been a bit of a rush job. Bernie insisted on bringing the wedding forward from Christmas, as was planned, to this week. Then Bernie forgets her locket, which contains a picture of her late son Paul (Peter Ash). Desperate to have Paul with her in some form on her wedding day, she heads home – just in time to disturb a burglar. Meanwhile the wedding guests have assembled in the bistro and are awaiting the bride's arrival. As Bernie gets later and later and the guests begin to get restless, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) steps up, entertaining the crowd with a rendition of the old Grease classic Hopelessly Devoted To You. And, for an encore, she proposes to Ronnie (Vinta Morgan), much to the delight of the other guests. Loose Women star 'suffering constant pain' as she cares for mum with Alzheimer's
Jane Moore has been caring for her mother and dealing with her divorce, something she says has given her a 'push on attitude' as she navigates her sixties Loose Women star Jane Moore is 'suffering constant pain' as she cares for her mother. It comes as Jane's 94-year-old mum is living with Alzheimer's disease. Jane, 63, says her being the power of attorney for her mother and her divorce from ex-husband Gary Farrow has given her a 'push on through' attitude as she approaches the 'third age'. But she has also felt the physical struggles from the stresses. Writing in Platinum, she said: 'To put it mildly, it was a lot and I found myself suffering from constant abdominal pain (probably stress related) and struggling to sleep after decades of being able to nod off at the drop of a hat.' Jane says her struggles meant she was low on energy and had a general feeling of fatigue. It meant when she was given the chance to join I'm a Me Out of Here!, she saw the chance for an 'all-expenses paid reset'. While she admits the decision could have been seen as a touch 'selfish,' Jane admits the idea of a month away felt 'appealing'. The Loose Women star was the first eliminated in last year's series. And while some of the campmates around Jane struggled to adapt to life in the jungle, she admits she enjoyed the experience. She added: 'It felt more like a spa break to me.' Jane says she enjoyed tending to the fire, completing her chores, and spending time 'sitting on a log and prompting people to tell their life stories'. Jane says the jungle had 'zero stress,' which meant she 'loved' her time on the show. Fifteen days after she entered the I'm A Celeb camp, she says she left feeling 'refreshed'. It also taught Jane that it was okay for her to leave her mother with her adult children. Her spell away from home led Jane to realise that it is important to 'take time for yourself'. She says that could be a long walk, chilling with friends, or even merely sitting in your garden. Jane's professional career saw her starting life as a journalist, rising through the ranks to become the news editor for the Sunday Sport. She began appearing on Loose Women in 1999, leaving three years later. However she returned in 2013 and has remained on the show ever since. Since 2018 she has regularly anchored the programme. During her time away from the show she regularly appeared on a host of BBC programmes such as Question Time, The Andrew Marr Show and This Week. She announced her split from ex Gary on Loose Women in 2022. At the time she revealed he had a fall and she was acting as his carer. 'I didn't push him,' she joked, as she opened up about her ended marriage.
