Federal CID chief to be transferred to border control agency
Shuhaily Zain will be replaced by M Kumar as CID director at Bukit Aman.
PETALING JAYA : Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain will be transferred to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency on July 1.
Shuhaily, who was appointed federal CID chief in August 2023, confirmed the transfer with Berita Harian but declined to comment further.
He will reportedly take over as the director-general of the border agency until June 30, 2027 and replaces Hazani Ghazali who retired in February.
Johor police chief M Kumar will take over from Shuhaily as Bukit Aman CID director. Kumar's replacement has yet to be announced.
In August last year, Malaysiakini reported that Shuhaily and deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay would be involved in a major shake-up of Bukit Aman's leadership.
The news portal quoted a source as saying Ayob might be transferred to lead either the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency or the border agency, while Shuhaily was speculated to take over as director-general of the national anti-drugs agency.
The then IGP Razarudin Husain rejected the report, which led to a police investigation into Malaysiakini over its article, with three of its journalists summoned to give their statements last year.

13-year-old girl rescued after years of alleged abuse, neglect
KUALA LUMPUR: A 13-year-old girl's life of quiet suffering came to light after she was rescued from years of alleged abuse and neglect at the hands of her adoptive mother in Taman Bendahara, Kuala Selangor. The girl had been raised by the suspect and her husband since she was an infant but what should have been a safe and loving home instead turned into a place of fear and pain. The case surfaced after George Wilson, founder of Johor-based welfare group Persatuan Kebajikan Ikhlas, was alerted by a neighbour who had long suspected the girl was being mistreated. He later rushed to Kuala Selangor and lodged a police report at the Kuala Selangor police station around 6.40pm on June 28. George claimed he then returned to the suspect's home to wait for the authorities, where he personally witnessed another act of abuse. The girl had just returned with a packet of food when she was verbally assaulted and struck repeatedly by the suspect. "She was bleeding from her temple. I couldn't just stand there," he said. Police arrived shortly after and detained the suspect. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. George said the child's biological father is reportedly incarcerated, and she has had no access to formal education since birth. "Neighbours confirmed that she was often seen wandering around the area in tattered clothes, looking for food." "It's heartbreaking. No child should endure what she has lived through. And it's shocking that no one stepped in sooner." Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin confirmed that a report was received at 6.40pm on June 28, triggering a swift response from the Criminal Investigation Division. Officers moved in and arrested the suspect, 54, at the house around 8.15pm. The child was immediately taken to Tanjong Karang Hospital for medical attention. The suspect, a housewife, has been remanded for six days, until July 4, to assist in the investigation. The case is being probed under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with abuse and neglect. Police are now calling on members of the public who may have information about the case to come forward and assist in the investigation. Cops to take charge of revamped scam response centre
Malaysians lost RM1.2 billion to various scams last year. In a case last month, a 53-year-old woman was swindled of nearly RM1 million by a love scam syndicate. PETALING JAYA : The police are to soon take charge of the National Scam Response Centre, which will be beefed up with its 997 hotline open around the clock, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said. There had been 'certain operational shortcomings' under its current structure, he said, according to Bernama. The centre was set up in 2022 as a joint venture between the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre, the police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Bank Negara Malaysia, banks and telecommunications companies. 'Under the new structure, the police will directly receive scam reports, record the necessary details and notify the relevant banks immediately to freeze the victim's account. Efforts to recover stolen funds will follow promptly,' Saifuddin was quoted as saying. The police will now be supported by the other key agencies instead. He said the restructuring will also enable NSRC's 997 hotline to be operational 24 hours daily, with the centre to get more manpower to improve its response time. Saifuddin said the proposed improvements were approved by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and will be executed soon. Anwar had said on Thursday that the centre's role would be expanded to cover all forms of cybercrime. The centre was set up in 2022 to deal with the growing number of cyber fraud cases in Malaysia, including phishing scams, Macau scams, malware attack scams, parcel scams and love scams. Last year, Anwar said in a parliamentary reply that Malaysians suffered the loss of RM1.22 billion to online scams from January to October 2024. He said the figure includes losses from various fraudulent schemes, such as telecommunications fraud, e-commerce scams, non-existent loans, love scams and fake investments.
