Priest in cheeky 'Simply the Best' dig at Rangers as Celtic fans in hysterics at viral Paisley service clip

A Catholic priest appeared to take a not-so-subtle 'Simply the Best' dig at Rangers during a Mass in Paisley.
The Celtic fans at Ibrox last weekend pilfered their rivals' longstanding anthem and belted out the Tina Turner hit from the away corner in Govan.

Their side came from behind to take a 1-1 draw, ending a run of back-to-back defeats against their bitter foes, and their substantial away support – who celebrated wildly a week early after they were crowned Premiership champions for a fourth season running – let the suffering home support hear it.

Celtic followed that up with a 3-1 win over Hibs on Saturday, at that point moving onto 88 points for the season – 20 points clear of their rivals.
And a clip which went viral on Sunday afternoon showed Father Ryan Black of St Mirin's Parish in Paisley making a cheeky reference to Celtic fans nabbing one of Rangers' favourite tunes.
After reading out the schools from which pupils had been confirmed that weekend, he's heard saying over the tannoy: "It just got me thinking - a new Pope, lots of confirmations, first Holy Communions and lots of beautiful weather...
"You might say that this week is Simply The Best."
Celtic face Aberdeen on Wednesday and and St Mirren next weekend before the Scottish Cup final against the Dons on May 24 – which they hope will see them clinch another Treble.

Jesurun Rak Sakyi to Rangers directly addressed by Russell Martin as boss reveals previous transfer plot

Martin wanted to sign the wide man while he was still at Southampton but couldn't do a deal for him Russell Martin admits he's a massive fan of Rangers linked winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi – revealing he previously tried to sign him while he was still Southampton manager. ‌ It was reported yesterday the Ibrox side made the first move to sign the Crystal Palace winger with a loan bid tabled that included a stunning £10million buy option for the 22-year-old. ‌ It's believed that first offer was rejected by Palace but the suggestion is that Rangers haven't been put off and could return to the table with a renewed bid for a player who scored seven times on loan at Sheffield United last season. ‌ It's no secret Martin is keen to strengthen his wide options further this summer, with Djeidi Gassama widely expected to be just one of a number of new wingers coming in the door. The fact Gers started the 2-0 win over Panathinaikos with Kieran Dowell and teenager Findlay Curtis on the flanks speaks to the lack of depth, and it certainly seems Rak-Sakyi is one the boss would be happy to bring in. Speaking to Sky Sports, he revealed his personal interest in the former Chelsea youth prospect stretches back to when he was in charge of Southampton – and tried to take him to the south coast club before negotiations with Palace collapsed. Asked directly about Rak-Sakyi, Martin said: "There's a lot of players we've been linked with. Some wide of the mark, some very close and some spot on. "He's a player I like. We tried to take him to Southampton, it didn't quite happen. I like him and the recruitment staff like him, but how far that's gone... I'm not too sure. ‌ "He's a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team, it doesn't necessarily have to be one type of profile. Players are very different. "We just need the ones with the right mentality who are desperate to come and play here. We'll see where we end up in four weeks' time." Owen Beck sees transfer triggered by two key Liverpool decisions as Rangers receive final answer

The Light Blues were linked to the former Dundee loanee - but his long and short-term future won't be in Govan Owen Beck was one of the names to feature on Rangers' summer revolution wishlist. ‌ And Liverpool have now signed off on TWO key decisions over the fate of the left-back. ‌ Arne Slot has shown the faith he has in the 22-year-old left-back by handing him a new long-term deal at the English Premier League champions before sanctioning a temporary move away for the season ahead. ‌ But that won't be at Ibrox, with the defender moving to Derby County to reunite with former boss John Eustace for the campaign ahead after playing under him during a stint at Blackburn Rovers. We told previously how Beck was wanted back north of the border after a successful loan stint at Dundee previously - but that move hinged on one condition. Ridvan Yilmaz was that key factor and he remains on the books as things stand under Russell Martin. He has been linked constantly with a return to his homeland - but as yet, nothing has materialised on that front for a player who has struggled largly with injuries in Glasgow. Celtic also previously targeted the defender but his future in the short and long-term has now been determined as he admitted a stint at Derby is a 'no-brainer' ‌ He explained: "Obviously, I know the gaffer well from last year. "I spoke to him with that experience of working with him before in mind. It moved pretty fast and was a no-brainer for me. We built a really good connection. I feel like he got the best out of me. ‌ "When he called up and we had that conversation again where he was looking to bring me in, it was a no-brainer, really! "I enjoyed playing under him. As I said, I feel like he got the best out of me. I feel like he can get even more out of me this season, and I can push that step further." On his targets for the season ahead, he added: "First and foremost, I want to play games. I want to play and stay injury-free. "In the game, I'm going to set myself personal goals. Also, I'm sure the gaffer will have goals that he wants the team to achieve. "Hopefully, I can hit my personal goals and help the team achieve theirs too."

Russell Martin addresses Rak-Sakyi Rangers loan link

Martin had attempted to sign Rak-Sakyi when he was in charge at Southampton, but was unable to complete a deal. 🔵 "He's a player I like and he's a player the recruitment staff like..." Russell Martin on Rangers' interest in a loan move for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi ⤵️ — Sky Sports Scotland (@ScotlandSky) July 25, 2025 Without committing to whether a deal will be agreed to sign Rak-Sakyi at [[Rangers]] this summer, Martin admitted he is a player liked by the recruitment staff at Ibrox. On Sky Sports, the [[Rangers]] boss said: "I think there are a lot of players we will be linked with, some wide of the mark, some very close and some spot on. "He's a player I liked at Southampton and tried to take there, and it didn't quite happen. "He's a player I like and I think he's a player the recruitment staff like, but how far that's gone, I'm not too sure. Responding to a follow-up question on whether the winger fits the right profile of player Rangers are chasing this summer, he added: "He's a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team. "So it doesn't necessarily have to be one type of profile; players are very different. "We just need the ones with the right mentality that are desperate to come and play here and we'll see where we end up in four weeks time." Read more: It's understood reports of a £10m obligation to buy being included in any deal are wide of the mark. Sources at Ibrox have dismissed that suggestion and expect Palace to look to offload Rak-Sakyi on a permanent basis this summer. Several English clubs are thought to be monitoring Rak-Sakyi. It is possible that Rak-Sakyi is a potential signing Rangers may have to wait for as his situation at his current club is clarified.
