Celtic transfer news as Giuseppe Ambrosino in limbo and Adam Idah concern raised
Reported Celtic target Giuseppe Ambrosino looks one step closer to leaving Napoli after the striker was left out of a pre-season training camp.
The Italy U21 star has returned to Naples after spending last season with Frosinone in Serie B where he chipped in with five goals and four assists.
Ambrosino is said to be on Celtic 's radar and with just a year remaining on his contract with Scudetto winners Napoli, is expected to move on this summer, with Serie A new boys Cremonese also chasing the 21-year-old.
And according to Il Mattino (via calcionapoli24.it), Ambrosino is one of six fringe players who Antonio Conte has not included for a pre-season trip to Dimaro in the north of the country.
Despite adding Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada - who is poised to join the Hoops from Kawasaki Frontale imminently - Brendan Rodgers' is still on the hunt for more quality in the forward deparment.
Number nine Adam Idah recently declared that he has what it takes to hit the 30 goal mark at Parkhead next season but that claim has been described as 'bold' by one Celtic hero who reckons getting another frontman in the door is imperative.
John Hartson also believes Idah will have a job getting in the team ahead of last season's player of the year Daizen Maeda, who scored goals for fun after being moved into a central role.
Speaking to The Celtic Way, he said: "As statements go, it is a bold one from Adam Idah as I think Celtic need another striker to be added to their ranks.
"Celtic cannot afford to rest on their laurels, and adding quality keeps players on their toes. They will start the season in four competitions. The team needs to strengthen every year, especially if they want to progress and have another good run like they did last season in the Champions League.
"If Idah gets the game time, he could score 30 goals a season, as he has shown that he can do it at this level and in the Champions League.
"My main concern for Idah would be getting enough playing time this season. I was a bit like him as I wanted to play in every game, but in the world that we live in now and in these heady days of rest and recovery and sports science, it is rare for any footballer to participate in every match because coaches want to protect them from burnout.
"Rodgers has a real decision on his hands here as Maeda was a revelation last season, and because of that, he may well be the preferred starting striker over Idah.
"Maeda's numbers were incredible in terms of goals and assists. A lot of Celtic supporters might prefer to see Maeda remain as the starting centre-forward in place of Idah."
Meanwhile, former Hoops star Giorgios Giakoumakis has seen a move to the MLS knocked back.
The Greece international - who netted 26 times in 57 matches for Celtic - left Atlanta United to join Mexican outfit Cruzl Azul last summer.
And a report from Mexican outlet am states that Cruz Azul have rejected a bid from Charlotte FC for the 30-year-old.

Premier League side favourites to sign Arsenal and Liverpool hero on a free
Former Arsenal and Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been tipped to join a Premier League rival on a free transfer. Oxlade-Chamberlain is fondly remembered at both the Emirates and Anfield having won seven major trophies during his time at both clubs. There were huge expectations when the then-17-year-old joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011, instantly becoming a first-team regular under Arsene Wenger despite his tender years. The midfielder also broke into the England team, winning 35 caps, the last of which in 2019, and was part of the squads that went to Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. 'The Ox' spent six seasons in north London, making 198 appearances and winning three FA Cups, but in 2017 he completed a surprise transfer to Liverpool for a fee of £35million – still the most expensive sale in Arsenal's history. After a great start under Jurgen Klopp, it seemed he would be a key player for club and country for many a season to come, but that all fell apart after suffering a serious knee injury that ruled him out for over a year. Fitness issues continued to plague him and he was eventually released in 2023, but not before adding a Premier League and Champions League title to his trophy cabinet. The former Three Lions star has spent the last two seasons with Besiktas but found himself struggling for game time following the arrival of former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Oxlade-Chamberlain had one more year left on his contract but earlier this week the Turkish giants paid £1.2m to end his deal early, according to reports. Now a free agent, the 31-year-old has been linked with a return to England and according to the bookmakers, Leeds United will be his destinantion. I want to enjoy every single moment – Kieran Tierney relishing Celtic return
The Scotland defender will run out on the Celtic Park pitch for the first time since leaving for Arsenal six years ago, when the Hoops host Newcastle in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The 28-year-old took advantage of freedom of contract to agree a return to his boyhood club in January and is delighted to be back. 'It's probably the easiest signing Celtic's had to make and easiest decision I've had to make as well,' he said. 'When I knew I was going to be a free agent in the summer, things can happen in January so the talks obviously started then. And once we found out it wouldn't happen in January, it would be the summer, first thing in the summer.' Looking ahead to Saturday, he said: 'It'll be amazing, it'll be a special day. Probably a little bit of nerves as well because it's the first time I've done it in so long. But I've spent a huge chunk of my life here, a big part of my career and still lots to go, so I'll be absolutely buzzing for it. 'You always miss it, you do miss it. It's a club that I think, I won't be the only one who says it, when you're away from it, you do miss it, you miss the people in the club, the fans, the atmosphere and just everything about the club. 'You do miss it, but now I'm back here and I want to enjoy every single moment again and make the most of it. 'Even when I left, I remember my first interview at Arsenal. One of the media guys asked me: 'Do you think you'll go back to Celtic?' 'So it's something that's always been spoken about with me, when will it happen, when will it happen? 'You never know for sure but when the opportunity came then it was a no-brainer.' Tierney won eight major trophies before heading to Arsenal, where he won an FA Cup winners' medal, and he plans to pick up where he left off. When asked about his targets, he said: 'Personal and the collective one for me is just the same: it's just to keep Celtic as successful as possible, maintain our place at the top.' Tierney is set for a hero's welcome after his pre-contract agreement was celebrated among supporters in January. 'They've been brilliant,' he said. 'Just leaving the training ground earlier, there were lots of people there asking for autographs and pictures and welcoming me back. Kieran Tierney with the Scottish Cup during his first spell at Celtic 'It just makes you feel at home already. Although you've not played back at Celtic Park or the league's not started, you still feel at home already. 'There's some stuff that's the exact same, it feels like you've never been away. But even when you go up to Lennoxtown, the training ground's come on massively. It's a great place to be but it's still a lot of the same people. 'A lot of new players for me to get used to as well but it's been great.'
