Israeli attacks kill at least 81 people including aid seekers in Gaza
Among those killed since dawn on Thursday, 59 were in Gaza City and the north and 16 others were waiting for aid assistance near the Netzarim Corridor, which splits north and south Gaza.
Starving Palestinians have gathered in the area daily to receive packages from the United States- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which the United Nations has condemned for its 'weaponisation' of aid.
Bassam Abu Shaar, who witnessed the Israeli attack at the aid site, told the AFP news agency that people had gathered overnight in the hope of receiving food.
'Around 1am [22:00 GMT Wednesday], they started shooting at us. The gunfire intensified from tanks, aircraft and quadcopter bombs,' he told AFP by phone.
'We couldn't help them or even escape ourselves,' he said, adding that the size of the crowd had made it impossible for people to flee Israeli fire near the Shuhada Junction.
In recent weeks, Israeli attacks on Palestinians attempting to receive food aid have increased, killing dozens of people.
Reporting from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, Al Jazeera's Tareq Abu Azzoum said the attacks on people at aid sites are becoming a 'daily routine'.
'More than three months of full [Israeli] blockade on border crossings has turned Gaza into a hunger point where people have run out of all kinds of humanitarian supplies and now found themselves to be forced to move to these designated centres to get bags of flour, bottles of water and alongside food boxes that, according to nutritional experts, contain low nutritional value,' Azzoum explained.
'These attacks are still unfolding, turning all humanitarian corridors into killing grounds,' he said.
According to the Reuters news agency, the Israeli military claimed, without providing evidence, that there were attempts by 'suspects' to approach forces in the area of Netzarim in a way that had endangered them.
The army added that forces fired warning shots to prevent suspects from approaching them, and it was currently unaware of injuries in the incident.
Separately, an Israeli drone attack on a charging point in Shati Refugee Camp killed 19 people. At the same time, an Israeli aircraft launched intensive air strikes and bombarded several homes in Jabalia, northern Gaza.
Over the past 24 hours, 69 bodies, including two that were recovered after an attack, and 221 wounded people were admitted to hospitals in the besieged enclave, medical sources said.
Since the war began in October 2023, at least 55,706 people have been killed and 130,101 wounded, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

Cambodia calls for immediate ceasefire with Thailand
Cambodia on Friday called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following an escalation in violence along its border with Thailand. "Cambodia asked for an immediate ceasefire - unconditionally - and we also call for the peaceful solution of the dispute," Cambodia's ambassador to the UN, Chhea Keo, said following a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. Keo dismissed Bangkok's accusations that Cambodia had attacked the country, pointing out that Cambodia's army is only a third the size of Thailand's. He also said that Cambodia lacks a fully equipped air force. At the closed-door meeting, members of the Security Council called on both sides to exercise extreme restraint. Long-standing tensions between the two South-East Asian neighbours flared on Thursday, when exchanges of fire broke out along the border. In response, the Thai military said it had deployed fighter jets against Cambodian positions. Cambodia responded with artillery fire, hitting areas including civilian infrastructure. A petrol station and a hospital were struck. Each side has blamed the other for initiating the latest round of fighting. According to media reports, Thailand carried out further airstrikes on Friday.

Al Jazeera condemns Israeli incitement against Gaza reporter Anas al-Sharif
Al Jazeera Media Network has denounced the Israeli military for what it called a 'campaign of incitement' against its reporters in the Gaza Strip, including most notably Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Anas al-Sharif. In a statement on Friday, Al Jazeera said it 'strongly condemns and denounces these relentless efforts, which have consistently incited against its staff since the beginning of its coverage of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza'. 'The Network considers this incitement a dangerous attempt to justify the targeting of its journalists in the field.' The statement comes just days after Israeli army spokesperson Avichai Adraee reshared a video on social media accusing al-Sharif of being a member of Hamas's military wing – a claim that has been forcefully rejected as false. Israel has routinely accused Palestinian journalists in Gaza of being members of Hamas since it launched its war on the enclave in October 2023 as part of what rights groups say is an effort to discredit their reporting on Israeli abuses. The Israeli military has killed more than 200 reporters and media workers since its bombardment began, including several Al Jazeera journalists and their relatives. On Thursday, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said it was 'deeply alarmed' by Adraee's threats against al-Sharif and called on the international community to protect him. 'This is not the first time Al-Sharif has been targeted by the Israeli military, but the danger to his life is now acute,' CPJ's Regional Director Sara Qudah said in a statement. 'Israel has killed at least six Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza during this war. These latest unfounded accusations represent an effort to manufacture consent to kill Al-Sharif.' In its statement, Al Jazeera Media Network said it held the Israeli authorities 'fully responsible' for the safety of its staff. It also called on states and international organisations to ensure that all journalists in Gaza are protected. 'Israel's continued obstruction of international journalists from entering Gaza to report on the catastrophic situation has placed an even greater burden on Al Jazeera's journalists,' the network said. Those reporters, it added, 'have shouldered the responsibility of conveying the truth as they witness it firsthand, despite enduring extreme hardships, including starvation, violence, terror, and a complete lack of life's most basic necessities'.
