An Englishman in Newport – Sting wows Isle of Wight Festival
Wearing a white T-shirt and tight black trousers, the 73-year-old raced straight into fan favourite Message In A Bottle which got the crowd singing along.
Half way through his one-and-a-half-hour slot, Sting said to the Newport audience: 'We are delighted to be back at the Isle of Wight festival, it's a historic festival.
'Thank you for inviting us.'

After bounding through An Englishman in New York, Walking On The Moon and Every Breath You Take, the band went off before returning for an encore of Roxanne which the crowds enthusiastically sang along to.
Sting then finished with Fragile, the only acoustic song in the set.
Other bands taking to the Main Stage on Friday included Lottery Winners, Amy Macdonald, The Corrs and Faithless ending the night while Clean Bandit headlined the Big Top.
Some 55,000 partygoers have crossed the Solent to reach Seaclose Park in Newport for the four-day event also being headlined by Stereophonics and Justin Timberlake.
John Giddings, who has run the festival since re-launching it in 2002 following the legendary events which ran from 1968 to 1970, has said he goes with 'gut feeling' when choosing the acts.
The 72-year-old told the PA news agency: 'You want to book acts that have a catalogue that's going to entertain an audience for an hour, hour and a half, and, secondly, someone who's capable of performing to an audience of 50,000 people in a field, because they need to be able to project to entertain.'
Other acts performing during the weekend include The Script, Jess Glynne, Supergrass, Example, Busted and Texas.

Sting's performance in Cardiff proved what a timeless performer he is, now four decades into his music career. He has a timeless classic voice which is undeniable, and the mix of young and old in the crowd shows that despite his advancing years, his performances and songs have transcended generations. Sting heads to Luxembourg on Tuesday and will then perform around Europe, but he will be back in the UK at Latitude Festival on Friday, July 25. Singer Example was forced to issue an apology to fans after cancelling his performance in Aberdeen just hours after jumping around on stage at Glastonbury Example issued an apology to fans after he was forced to cancel his performance in Aberdeen - the day after his gig at Glastonbury. The 43 year old singer, who shot to fame in 2010 with his hit album Won't Go Quietly, claimed that he suffered from sound issues while on stage at Glastonbury which caused his voice to strain. And the next day, just before he was due on stage in Aberdeen, he said he realised his voice had gone and was "absolutely gutted." Example, who was born Elliot John Gleave, had performed on the Shangri-La stage on Friday. Penning his apology to his adoring fans, he said: "During my set at Glastonbury, we experienced some unexpected sound issues that forced me to push my voice much harder than usual." He added: "I could feel it starting to go, so we made the difficult decision to cut the set short by 20 minutes to protect it ahead of today's performance at Granite City Festival Aberdeen." He continued: "I left the site immediately after the show and arrived at Gatwick by 7am, managing to get a few hours' sleep before my flight to Aberdeen. " He went on to say: "Unfortunately when I woke up, my voice was completely gone." He conclude his apology saying:"I hate cancelling shows - over the past 21 years, I've played 1,534 gigs and only ever cancelled 11. " " Scotland has always been my favourite place to perform and this was an incredibly hard decision to make.," he said. To everyone who was planning to see me today - and to the Granite City Festival team - I'm truly sorry. We'll make it up to you, E x." Aware his explanation as to why he cancelled his Aberdeen gig, it seems he feared that he was laying blame on the production team at Glastonbury. And so he quickly wrote: "This isn't a dig at the production crew. These things just happen sometimes." He went on to say: "One of the smaller stages at Glastonbury. Except when we turn up. " Thanking the organisers, he said: "Honestly thank you so much for having me last night. No artists make any money at Glastonbury. And that's fine. It's one of the most magical places on earth." He added: "I still want Pyramid stage. But I'm not going away just yet. I have patience. Gotta rest up so I can fly back to Australia tomorrow and be a professional Dad. Big love. E x."

Five months earlier, the musician revealed his nine year marriage to Erin - an Australian actress - was over, with the former couple focused on raising their two sons, Evander, ten, and Ennio, 7. Addressing the separation in a joint statement, they wrote: 'At the start of the UK summer we decided to separate. We have had an amazing 11 years together, but just a few too many adventures. Example announced his relationship with Daisy, who bears a striking resemblance to his ex-wife, in March 2023. 'Obviously we spent a lot of time behind the scenes trying to figure things out, but we came to the realisation that perhaps our time as a couple had just come to a natural end. 'So we have decided to go our separate ways whilst there is still an abundance of love and respect for one another. 'We have been Co-parenting happily and effectively now for almost half a year and our boys are surrounded with love.'
