Suarez hits 32nd and 33rd homers as Diamondbacks rout Cardinals 10-1
PHOENIX (AP) — Eugenio Suarez homered twice, Corbin Carroll had two triples and the Arizona Diamondbacks cruised to a 10-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
Suárez has five multi-homer games this season, including a four-homer night April 26. Carroll leads the big leagues with 12 triples.
The 34-year-old Suárez is in an intriguing spot as the trade deadline approaches. The All-Star third baseman has 33 homers and is arguably the best power bat on the market, but it's unclear if the D-backs will be buyers or sellers considering their 49-50 record is still on the fringe of the National League playoff race.
Suarez's 18 homers since June 1 are the most in the big leagues.
D-backs righty Ryne Nelson (6-2) had a quality start, giving up one run on four hits over six innings.
The D-backs jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Carroll hit a leadoff triple and Geraldo Perdomo brought him home with a single. Josh Naylor reached on catcher's interference with two outs and Suarez followed with a long two-run homer to left field.
Arizona pushed the advantage to 5-0 in the second after Blaze Alexander and Perdomo hit RBI singles. Suarez went deep again in the third with a solo shot to right center.
St. Louis right-hander Sonny Gray (9-4) gave up a season-high nine runs, including eight earned, over 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 11 hits and struck out five.
Alec Burleson hit a solo homer in the sixth for the Cardinals, who have lost 10 of their past 14 games. Key moment
Carroll's leadoff triple was a harbinger of the offensive onslaught that was coming. Key stat
The Diamondbacks scored at least one run in each of the first four innings. Up next
The Cardinals will throw RHP Miles Mikolas (5-6, 4.94 ERA), while the D-backs counter with RHP Merrill Kelly (8-5, 3.34) in the series finale Sunday.

Rockets sign veteran wing defender Josh Okogie to one-year contract
With a roster spot open after waiving Nate Williams, the Rockets are filling it by signing Josh Okogie to a one-year, $3.1-million contract. The Rockets get it!!! They're loaded at the Wing position which is the MOST IMPORTANT position in the league especially when you're trying to win the Chip. Gotta have Wings that can defend at a HIGH level. With a roster spot open after the recent release of Nate Williams, the Houston Rockets are signing veteran guard/forward Josh Okogie to a one-year, $3.1-million contract, as first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania. A 6-foot-4 wing with a long 7-foot-0 wingspan, Okogie is well regarded for his perimeter defense. In 40 games last season with the Phoenix Suns and Charlotte Hornets, the 26-year-old averaged 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 15.6 minutes per game. 'Okogie enters his eighth NBA season and gives the Rockets another active wing defender,' Charania posted to X. 'He averaged a career high 1.2 steals and ranked fourth in steals per 36 minutes among players to appear in 40 games or more last season.' Okogie's strong defense should be a good fit for head coach Ime Udoka, whose Rockets ranked in the NBA's top five defensive units last season. Signings such as Okogie and Dorian Finney-Smith can potentially help replace any lost production from Dillon Brooks, who went to Phoenix in the blockbuster trade bringing All-Star forward Kevin Durant to Houston. 'Houston, we have a problem,' Okogie posted to X. While primarily known as a wing defender, it's worth noting that Okogie shot 34.8% on 3-pointers last season, representing the best clip of his NBA career to date. More: Rockets open up 2025-26 roster spot by waiving Nate Williams Rockets officials and agent Calvin Andrews of Klutch Sports negotiated the new deal for Okogie, who averaged a career high 1.2 steals and ranked fourth in steals per 36 minutes among players to appear in 40 games or more last season. Houston, we have a problem. 🚀🤘🏽 To clarify, Okogie's deal can be fully guaranteed without busting the hard cap. It's just that they can't sign anyone ELSE right now if Okogie's deal is fully guaranteed. What a sequence! Josh Okogie catches Jalen Green's shot and then throws down a poster dunk 👀

2025 WNBA All-Star Game nets second-best TV viewership in event history
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game was, per ESPN, the most-watched program of any kind on Saturday night, with the event logging one of the best viewership figures in its history. The average viewership on ABC for Team Collier's 151-131 victory over Team Clark came out at 2.2 million, a figure only bested by last year's 3.44 million total. While this year's game couldn't quite match 2024, last year's edition was a battle between the WNBA All-Stars and Team USA just before the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics. It's the second straight year that the All-Star Game has drawn a seven-figure audience, with 2024 the all-time highest total. This year, a new format was in place, with stars Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier — the top two players in fan voting — getting to pick their teams from a pool of players sorted by a weighted tally of fan, media, and player votes. Clark ended up sidelined due to a groin injury, joining Rhyne Howard (leg) and Satou Sabally (ankle) as All-Stars who could not participate. WNBA All-Star Game: How to buy 'Pay Us What You Owe Us" shirts All-Star Weekend included a Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest on Friday, with viewership for that surpassing all previous editions. Per ESPN, an average of 1.3 million viewers watched Natasha Cloud win the Skills Challenge, while her New York Liberty teammate Sabrina Ionescu won the 3-Point Contest for a second time in three years. The audience average was an 89% increase over 2024, and according to the network it was the most-viewed program in primetime for people under the age of 35.

WNBA picks, odds, and best bets: Chicago Sky vs. Minnesota Lynx
New York Post may be compensated and/or receive an affiliate commission if you click or buy through our links. Featured pricing is subject to change. Handicapping the first game after an All-Star break is tricky, especially when players are not given that much time off. The WNBA's weekend festivities involved labor talks and an active party scene, so one can certainly wonder about the level of focus with the first game. However, apathy can affect offense as much as it can defense, so I will approach this like I would a conventional matchup. The Minnesota Lynx host the Chicago Sky as 13-point favorites with a total of 162.5 points on Wednesday. These two teams have faced each other three times this month already. Chicago won one of them outright as a double-digit underdog, while Minnesota covered in only one of its two wins. Guard Ariel Atkins is Chicago's best scorer, but her status is unknown after missing their most recent game with a leg injury. That could significantly hurt the Sky, but I still think we will see a good pace. The Sky have adjusted their style over the past month and are now pushing the ball. Rachel Banham of the Chicago Sky in action. Getty Images Part of that new approach is utilizing Rachel Banham's 3-point shooting. The sharpshooter is 12-for-25 from behind the arc in the past three meetings with the Lynx. She has attempted at least seven in each. Banham was not an All-Star and should be refreshed for this first game. Plus, given Minnesota was preoccupied with the midseason game with three players and its head coach, I doubt the team will be super focused on this first game. They know they are considerably better than their opponent. I have a 56-46-1 ATS record in this Post sports section, and my next play is Banham to make at least three 3-pointers at +102 odds at FanDuel.
