Beloved cyclist killed in hit-and-run in CO, reports say. ‘Miss you forever'
The cyclist was riding in Boulder County just before noon on May 18 when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander, the Colorado State Patrol said in a news release. The county coroner's office identified the cyclist as John Wilkinson.
The Toyota Highlander drove off but was found later that day abandoned in a park, troopers said.
A 23-year-old man has been charged with failing to notify police of an accident and failing to remain at the scene/give information and/or aid after an accident, according to state troopers, who said more charges are expected.
McClatchy News couldn't immediately reach an attorney for the 23-year-old on May 22.
In the news release, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said, 'Throughout Colorado, there are far too many cyclists and pedestrians who are tragically injured or killed every year,' adding that 'these cases are a priority in this jurisdiction.'
Wilkinson was remembered in news reports and on social media for his passion and dedication.
He was 'a cycling machine,' his dad, Bob Wilkinson, told CBS News Colorado, adding that 'he rode hundreds and hundreds of miles a week.'
And beyond cycling, 'He just was, he was just a good kid overall. It's a terrible loss to us,' his dad said, according to the outlet.
The Colorado bike shop CyclErie — where Wilkinson worked, according to the Daily Camera — wrote on Instagram that 'the loss of John's vibrant spirit is heartbreaking, infuriating, and utterly avoidable.'
The shop went on to say, 'There's no silver lining — only grief for a friend who won't join us at work, a brother who won't call back, and a loving partner who won't return from his Sunday ride,' adding that 'we'll miss you forever.'

New York man indicted on charges he built homemade IEDs, tossed one on subway tracks
A New York man has been indicted on multiple counts after authorities say he built several improvised explosive devices with chemicals he ordered online -- storing several of them on the roofs of two New York City apartment buildings and tossing one onto the subway tracks. None of the devices exploded. Michael Gann, 55, of Inwood, New York, was indicted on three counts, including attempted destruction of property by means of explosives; transportation of explosive materials; and unlawful possession of destructive devices. Photos included with the indictment showed cardboard tubes with fuses on the end. The devices were packed with approximately 30 grams of explosive powder -- roughly 600 times the legal limit for consumer fireworks, the indictment stated. Gann stored the devices on the roofs of two adjoining apartment buildings in the SoHo neighborhood and threw one of the devices onto the subway tracks of the Williamsburg Bridge, according to the indictment. 'The safety of New Yorkers is paramount,' said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton in a statement. 'As alleged, Michael Gann built explosive devices, stored them on a rooftop in SoHo, and threw one onto the subway tracks—putting countless lives at risk. Thanks to swift work by our law enforcement partners, no one was harmed. That vigilance assuredly prevented a tragedy in New York.' Gann was arrested on June 5, according to the court docket for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and has been in custody since then. Authorities said Gann also made several internet searches referencing bomb-making and firearms. Just hours before he was arrested -- carrying one of the devices -- he had posted a message on Instagram reading, "Who wants me to go out to play like no tomorrow." Authorities have not provided a motive for the alleged bomb-making. A criminal complaint filed last month in federal court said Gann has prior 12 felony arrests and three convictions.

Police: Girl found dead in New York, no signs of abduction dad reported
NEW YORK (WJW) — The death of a 9-year-old girl whose father initially reported she was missing and possibly abducted is being investigated amid 'inconsistencies' in his account, police said Sunday after the girl's body was found in New York state. Melina Frattolin was reported missing from near Lake George in northeast New York late Saturday evening by her father, Luciano Frattolin, according to New York State Police. Oklahoma man among Druze family killed in execution-style shooting in Syria
A Syrian-American who was taking care of his ill father was among the eight Druze men kidnapped from their family home and executed in the middle of the street in Syria last week, harrowing video shows. Viral video of the Druze-Bedouin conflict shows the final moments of Hosam Saraya, a 35-year-old from Oklahoma who flew back to his homeland to take care of his sick father in Sweida, where Syria's Druze minority reside, CNN reported.
