Darren Norris' verdict
History suggests opposing Team Ballydoyle in the Derby is an act of folly and it's easy to make a coherent case for Delacroix giving Aidan O'Brien a record-extending 11th win in the premier Classic. However, the Dubawi colt has looked more solid than spectacular in his Leopardstown wins so a chance is taken on PRIDE OF ARRAS landing the spoils for Arc-winning pair Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan. His lack of experience could be viewed as a negative but 2013 victor Ruler of The Word and 2022 hero Desert Crown had also only run twice before rocking up at Epsom and Pride Of Arras showed enough at York to suggest he has all the attributes required to become the 10th Dante winner since 1980 to go on to Derby glory. Should stamina prove Ruling Court's undoing, unbeaten French raider Midak can hit the frame at a decent price.

Wave-riding canines take on surf to be named top dog
A surfing competition with a difference drew thousands of spectators to a beach near San Francisco, as dogs of all sizes took to the waves. Labs, terriers and spaniels were among dozens of dogs riding the surf at Pacifica State Beach, about 14 miles south of the city, in the annual World Dog Surfing Championships. They competed against similar-sized dogs for a chance to appear in the finals, while additional heats featured multiple dogs – wearing life vests and often goggles – surfing tandem or riding with people. Once out on the waves, their owners helped them hop on their colourful surf boards as the crowd cheered from the beach. Judges assessed how long the dogs remained on their boards, how long they held their balance, and whether they performed any tricks, like turning around while riding. 'It's like, hey, we actually did something today, right? We did something together as a team,' Mr Drottar said. 'The fact that you can do something as a team with your dog creates a different bond than you have when you just take your dog for a walk.' He can tell Rosie feels a sense of accomplishment afterwards because she is extra happy, wags her tail extra hard and snuggles even more than usual, he said. 'It's like we go home on the couch and it feels like she's saying 'Thank-you'.'

Shels bounce back with victory at the Showgrounds
Shelbourne extended their unbeaten SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division run to five games with a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds, bouncing back from a disappointing European performance mid-week. Ali Coote and Sean Boyd were the goalscorers as Joey O'Brien's side moved to within three points of Drogheda United in fourth. A bad night for Sligo was made worse with six minutes to go when goalkeeper Sam Sargeant was sent off as he was judged to have handled the ball outside the box by referee Rob Harvey, although replays suggest it may have been on the line. Unbeaten in their last five league games, the Bit O'Red were one of the league's form sides coming into this tie. A win against the 2024 Premier Division champions would have brought Russell's men level on points with Galway United who were beaten on Friday by the league's bottom side Cork City. Russell lost both Jake Doyle-Hayes and Francely Lomboto this week, with both players departing the club, while Ciaron Harkin joined from Derry City and was named on the bench for this game. Shels, who had a gruelling trip home from Kazakhstan mid-week where they were in European action, named Milan Mbeng after the French man signed from Cork City. Cian Kavanagh's miss on ten minutes was the talking point in an otherwise uneventful first-half, with neither side bringing the entertainment that may have been expected. The former St Patrick's Athletic striker just needed a slight touch to divert the ball past Speel in the Shels goals after Will Fitzgerald's free-kick was knocked on in the direction of Kavanagh in front of goal. That was as close as either side would come to opening the scoring in the first-half, but Shels found the net two minutes into the second-half. As the home side failed to clear the ball from their defence, John Martin picked out the free Boyd in front of goal, and all he needed to do was poke it in past Sargeant for 2-0. There was further controversy, though, as the home side were reduced to ten when referee Rob Harvey gave Sargeant a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box, but replays show that Sargeant looked to be on the line as he handled the ball. That result leaves Sligo in ninth place, three points off Galway in eighth, while Shels are just three points off Drogheda United who occupy fourth spot.
