Wushu's Agatha Wong, wakeboarder Raph Trinidad are PH flag bearers in 2025 World Games
Wong is a two-time silver medalist in the World Championships and a five-time Southeast Asian Games winner, while Trinidad won the gold in the IWWF Asia and Oceania Championships in Pampanga last January.
A total of 47 athletes will represent the Philippines in the tournament which carries competitions for non-Olympic sports.
'I'm grateful to carry the flag. I feel so really blessed about the opportunity that I got for the first time to compete in the World Games,' said Wong.
Trinidad, meanwhile, will make his debut in the World Games and he shared his gratefulness for the task assigned to him by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
'It will be my first time competing and I expect a tough competition. All world events are competitive, but I believe World Games will be more competitive, so it means a lot for me,' Trinidad said. 'I am so thankful to be named flag bearer too.'
Aside from Wong, Faith Collado, Carlos Baylon, and Jones Inso will also compete in wushu events, while Trinidad will be joined by fellow wakeboarder Eric Ordonez.
Billiards will also be in the spotlight in the Games with Rubilen Amit, Chezka Centeno, and Jeffrey De Luna comprising the squad. Kayla Napolis and Annie Ramirez of jiu-jitsu will also compete, while Olympic boxer Hergie Bacyadan will compete in kickboxing.
Rudzma Abubakar will represent the Philippines in Muay, while Joyce Reboton and Reggie Ramirez will compete in powerlifting as Aislinn Yap will participate in sambo.
Triathletes Kim Mangrobang, Franklin Yee, Bea Quiambao, Maynard Pecson, John Patrick Ciron, and Merry Joy Trupa will also take part, while the country will also have a 14-member floorball squad and 12-strong dragon boat team.
POC president Abraham Tolentino hopes to have a better showing as the Philippines sends its biggest delegation yet in the World Games.
'We're eyeing a significant improvement in these Chengdu World Games from the previous edition in Birmingham,' Tolentino said while referring to the lone gold medal bagged by Junna Tsukii in the 2022 edition in the United States.
'This is going to be the largest delegation in all World Games editions and I am praying for more medals, especially gold,' Tolentino said.

James Darrel Orduña and Jessa Mae Roda pulled off thrilling finishes to rule their respective 16K races in the Parañaque leg of the Metro Manila 10 Miler Series on Sunday at Parqal Aseana City. In the women's 5k race, Lezarny Sanita (20:23) placed first, followed by Shaira Mae Fantilaga (20:32) and Liznie Delfino (22:10). KarlTzy accepts 'GOAT' status after steering Team Liquid to MSC glory
Karl 'KarlTzy' Nepomuceno has completed his decorated championship resume with the elusive MSC crown — the one title that had long evaded him. With it, the star jungler has finally embraced the GOAT label after years of sidestepping the conversation and letting his play do the talking as he finally captured the MSC title with Team Liquid Philippines. Team Liquid bucked a Game 1 hiccup en route to a decisive 4-1 victory over defending champion of Malaysia in the grand finals last Saturday. "Yes. If I have a lot of people backing me up, saying that I'm the GOAT, I'll agree with them right now," KarlTzy said. "I'm just really happy and really proud of myself that I became the GOAT." It has been a long journey for KarlTzy. He made his MPL debut way back in Season 2 in 2019 under the banner of Finesse Solid and was later selected to be part of the Philippines' gold medal team in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang debut in the Southeast Asian Games here in Manila. He was later acquired by Bren Esports, where he helped the team capture the MPL Philippines Season 6 title—a victory that marked the beginning of his meteoric rise. KarlTzy played a crucial role in Bren's historic title run in the M2 World Championship in 2021, claiming the MVP honors as the Philippines seized its first world title. Later that year, KarlTzy found his way to Echo Philippines where he initially teamed up with the likes of powerhouse names Tristan 'Yawi' Cabrera, Frediemar '3MarTzy' Serafico, and Ashley Marco "Killuash" Cruz. Under Team Liquid (formerly Echo) KarlTzy captured three more MPL titles in Season 11, 13, and 15, all while also winning the M4 World Championship crown in early 2023 after they swept Blacklist International in their all-Filipino finals showdown. KarlTzy and Echo came close to it in the 2023 edition in Cambodia, but the Philippine bets fell to eventual champion Onic Esports of Indonesia during their semifinals bout. Alas Pilipinas Women escape Indonesia to seize SEA V. League bronze
The Alas Pilipinas Women recovered from a Set 3 collapse to carve a 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13 win over Indonesia and capture the bronze medal at the 2025 SEA V. League Leg 1 on Sunday in Thailand. The Filipinas, who ended the first leg with a 1-2 win-loss card, cruised to their third-straight third-place finish after seizing the same output in both legs of the 2024 edition. Indonesia, on the other hand, capped off its run with a winless 0-3 campaign. Alas struggled to put a stop on the tandem of Ersandrina Devega and Megawati Pertiwi, who both led Indonesia's convincing Set 3 comeback that dragged the Filipinas to a fourth. But Alas roared back in the fourth frame with Alyssa Solomon capping off a scorching 4-0 start before Fifi Sharma came up with back-to-back rejections that sent the Philippines to a 10-3 cushion. Solomon continued to dazzle after the former National University standout launched an ace and unleashed a hammer from the back to make it a huge 12-5 advantage for Alas.
