Springwatch viewers fume as show airs gruesome scenes with 'no warning'
Springwatch viewers have been left fuming after the show failed to warn them before airing gruesome scenes on the BBC Two show.
The episode saw hosts Chris Packham and Dancing on Ice star Michaela Strachan update fans on a short-eared owl's nest, but things took a turn for the worst when one chick was "pecked to death" by its sibling.
Addressing Springwatch viewers, Michaela said: "It seems like they were all being fed, and just yesterday I was saying that one was doing well. But I'm afraid in that nest things took a turn for the worst."
Michaela admitted the team was "really surprised" upon telling viewers how one chick ate its sibling in "shocking" scenes. However, viewers were left horrified when the show went straight into the clip without any warning.
"As you can see, that little one became week and defenceless, and that stronger sibling took complete advantage and started pecking at the younger one who was still alive."
Apologising that it was hard to watch Michaela continued: "It pecked it to death. That was really surprising to us, because as Chris said they were fed four times."
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one shocked fan wrote: "Really dont think they should have shown the owl being eaten alive #Springwatch."
Another said: "Got to love #Springwatch. Just watched my first 5 minutes of this series and I've already seen one short eared owl chick peck a sibling to death and eat it's cadaver," as a third commented: "Baby owl eating its sibling alive ffs . Give us a 5 minute warning next time."
It comes shortly after the show k icked off its 20th anniversary series. The show broadcasted from a new location, in the picturesque Peak District.
Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan introduced the first episode on May 26 with a nostalgic montage of clips featuring familiar faces, including Kate Humble and Bill Oddie, from the show's debut in 2005.
To celebrate two decades on air, the show introduced a new feature, Springwatch Street, which delves into the secret lives of urban wildlife, showcasing the thriving populations of foxes and swifts in city environments.
Fans were overjoyed with the anniversary series, with many taking to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their delight.
Others were more focused on Chris' Oasis style bucket hat. To go along with the theme, the host peppered his opening segment with Oasis puns, teasing viewers that they were in for a treat: "You'll want to be here now as we're about to bring you the Champagne supernova of wildlife TV, starting tonight."
"@ChrisGPackham clearly on an Oasis kick tonight," penned one follower, as others begged him to break out into song.
"Oasis songs then Chris?" questioned one, as another said: "Some might say that Chris is naming Oasis songs."

Sadly it would inevitably be confiscated by the first teacher to catch sight of it - but the street cred would remain throughout your tenure at school. If you've got an old jacket from school lying in a box somewhere, a savvy Vinted seller has revealed the brands that make the most money online now. 6. MSN Messenger 7 MSN Messenger was a precursor to texting The sight of the MSN Messenger logo is enough to send your brain screaming back to the 90s. This was a basic instant messaging platform by Microsoft that you could use on the dial-up internet of your family computer to contact people you knew from school - in a time when there were no mobiles or 'texting.' It was a great way to waste hours after school- until you were kicked off because your parents needed to make a phone call. Oasis setlist in full and stage times after Gallagher brothers' UK tour continu

Noel Gallagher, 58, and younger brother Liam Gallagher, 52, hadn't performed together since their 2009 split, meaning the world was, quite literally, sent into a frenzy last August when they confirmed the guns had 'fallen silent'. After a lengthy wait, the siblings kicked off their string of sold-out reunion shows at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, with Noel Gallagher reduced to 'tears' by the iconic moment. The brothers took to social media with a teaser of the stage, complete with an epic drone light show, ahead of that historic gig. With an international tour following their sold-out UK run, we're certain Oasis Live '25 has got plenty to give. So, what songs are on the setlist and what time do they hit the stage? The brothers aptly open their first show in 16 years with Hello – the first song on their second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? After that, it's fan-favourite tune Acquiesce and then Morning Glory, with the first half also including tunes Cigarettes & Alcohol, Supersonic, Roll With It, and Half the World Away. Ending on a high, the brothers will close with Champagne Supernova, also the closing track on the band's second studio album, having saved their most popular tunes til the end. Oasis started their Cardiff show around 8:15pm. Before their set, Richard Ashcroft of the Verve took to the stage at 7pm to warm up the crowd with bangers, including Bittersweet Symphony. Well, bangers for most people – one woman was spotted Shazaming the iconic tune in the middle of the crowd. Sticking to the rules and behaving (for now), the concert was wrapped up minutes before the 10:30pm curfew of the stadium. Speaking just before the first show, a source hinted that Noel and Liam are still keeping some distance despite being on the road together. 'It's all gearing up now,' they began. 'Technical rehearsals for the band started on Monday, and then Noel and Liam joined them a couple of days later. 'But Liam barely even stayed for the first eight songs before leaving the rehearsals early, and Noel continued on his own.' Nevertheless, fans are absolutely beside themselves with excitement, as the responses to their X teaser video make clear. The official Oasis account previously shared further details about the structure of the night for the first tour show. Doors will open at 5pm before support acts Cast and Richard Ashcroft perform at 6pm and 7pm, respectively. Oasis will take to the stage at 8:15pm with a 10:30pm curfew, promising over two hours of music. The group will play 19 shows in the UK and Ireland this year before heading across Europe, with tickets sold to 900,000 fans. However, to say it's been smooth sailing getting here would be false. At the end of May, it was claimed that Noel and Liam still hadn't rehearsed together, with Liam also avoiding studio time with fellow performers Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Mikey Rowe. Instead, Liam, who is set to become a grandfather for the first time in a matter of months, has been chilling at his £4million mansion in the South of France with his girlfriend, Debbie Gwyther. Oh, and he's also been tweeting… Just this week, the singer offended a large number of South Korean Oasis fans by tweeting the phrase 'chingchong'. 'Chingchong' (believed to have originated in the 19th century) is understood as an offensive or derogatory phrase that's used to mock or denigrate East Asian languages. While usually intended to insult people who speak Chinese languages, it has also been applied towards languages and speakers from Japan and South Korea. Liam deleted the post shortly after and responded nonchalantly with 'Whatever' when one user warned he might get cancelled. It's believed Oasis will generate a whopping £400million in ticket sales and add-ons, just from their initial dates. As for their take-home pay, Noel and Liam are thought to be getting £50million each.
