Sabah launches NADI Ambassador programme to boost digital literacy
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that 50 UMS student volunteers were selected to participate in the programme. These ambassadors will also support MCMC's Safe Internet Campaign by educating communities on responsible internet use.
'Sabah was chosen due to its past internet infrastructure challenges during the pandemic. We have been addressing these issues through tower installations and WiFi expansions. Now, we are reinforcing digital literacy through this programme,' Fahmi said during the launch at UMS.
The NADI Ambassador initiative includes a two-day training session covering volunteerism fundamentals, NADI Smart Services, and cyber safety awareness. Upon completion, ambassadors will conduct briefings for schools, parents, and local entrepreneurs at 131 NADI centres across Sabah.
MCMC stated that 25 NADI centres have been matched with the hometowns of the volunteers to ensure localised outreach. The programme is set to expand to other universities nationwide in collaboration with student councils. - Bernama

ARAU: The Perlis Education Department (JPN) has highlighted the 2025 My Idols Character & Safe Internet Campaign (K.I.S) as a proactive effort to develop leadership and moral resilience among primary school pupils navigating the digital age. Deputy director of Education (Learning Sector) Mohd Nazri Baharin emphasised the programme's role in reinforcing discipline, responsibility, and character-building for Year Two students, who face unprecedented exposure to borderless online influences. MCMC acts to fix mobile coverage gap in Kampung Sungai Relai
KOTA BHARU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is stepping in to address the absence of mobile network coverage in Kampung Sungai Relai, Gua Musang. A recent inspection confirmed the area has no service despite the presence of a 76-metre tower, which is currently used only for microwave backhaul between two towers. 'A cellular quality of service test confirmed there is no mobile coverage in the village,' MCMC said in a statement today. To enforce compliance, MCMC has issued a Section 51(2) notice under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 to service providers failing to meet coverage standards. The commission is also working on a solution under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative, proposing a new tower site to enhance connectivity for residents. Additionally, discussions are underway with telecommunications companies to upgrade the existing tower to support 4G coverage via fibre-optic connections. This upgrade aims to provide a more stable and reliable network for the community. Fahmi offers condolences on passing of journalist Nurulanuar
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family and friends of former Utusan Malaysia journalist Nurulanuar Mansor, who passed away yesterday. Fahmi expressed sadness over the passing of Nurulanuar, a member of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Journalists Club (KLS), whom he described as an immensely talented individual in the arts. 'He drew a caricature which he presented to me during the Malaysian Media Clubs Alliance dinner last month. 'My condolences to all of the late Nurulanuar's family members and friends. I pray they are granted patience, resilience, and strength in facing this loss,' he posted on Facebook. Fahmi also prayed for Allah SWT to forgive his sins, accept his good deeds, and place his soul among the righteous. Meanwhile, KLS president Wan Syamsul Amly Wan Seadey, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that Nurulanuar passed away at Putrajaya Hospital due to a ruptured blood vessel. The funeral prayer will be held after the Zuhur prayers at Masjid Saidina Hamzah, and Nurulanuar's remains will be laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway in Taman Selasih, Batu Caves. - Bernama
