Iran nuclear program tops Trump-Netanyahu agenda

Shafaq News - Washington
US President Donald Trump intends to discuss Iran's nuclear program during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.
Addressing a group of reporters, Trump described Iran's nuclear program as having suffered a 'lasting setback.' He cautioned, however, that nuclear activities could resume at alternative locations, noting Tehran has neither agreed to international inspections nor halted uranium enrichment.
His remarks came after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Tehran had formally informed the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran of its decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Israel conducted a surprise air operation on June 13 targeting multiple military and nuclear sites across Iran. In the following days, the US also launched a series of airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities including Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later confirmed the attacks caused 'significant damage' to the targeted sites.

Netanyahu: We changed the Middle East

Shafaq News – Middle East On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commited to defeating Hamas and expanding normalization with Arab states ahead of a meeting with US President Donald Trump. 'The Gaza war is one of our major accomplishments,' he told reporters at the Ben Gurion Airport, claiming that Israel had 'already changed the Middle East' and paved the way for expanded peace agreements. Israel's negotiating team left for Doha earlier with 'clear instructions' to pursue a deal within the existing framework, and the talks with Trump could 'contribute' to that effort, he added. The comments follow renewed ceasefire diplomacy. Hamas submitted amendments to the draft deal, which Israel rejected, insisting on a phased plan involving hostage releases and Hamas' disarmament. Since October 2023, Israel's campaign in Gaza has left about 58,000 Palestinians dead, according to local health officials, though protests across Israel continue, with demonstrators demanding a deal to bring hostages home and end the war.

Iran at BRICS: 6,000+ civilians killed in US-Israeli strikes

Shafaq News – Rio de Janeiro/Tehran Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned, on Sunday, recent US–Israeli strikes on Iran, warning they undermine global stability and breach international law. Speaking at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Araghchi described the attacks as a 'lethal blow' to diplomacy, claiming they killed or wounded more than 6,000 civilians and damaged homes, nuclear sites, and critical infrastructure. He argued that targeting Iranian nuclear facilities violated the Non-Proliferation Treaty and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, stressing there is no legal basis to strike civilian nuclear programs on suspicions of weaponization. He further charged Washington and Israel with protecting Israeli operations in Gaza and occupied Arab territories while Western allies blocked accountability efforts. 'My people stayed steadfast and resolved in defense of our homeland,' he declared, asserting that Iranian resistance ultimately halted the strikes. Araghchi pledged Iran would keep defending itself 'with all force' against future attacks and pursue legal action over what Tehran calls Israeli war crimes, urging the global community and multilateral bodies to uphold international law and reject impunity.

President Barzani: Salary resolution benefits all Iraqis

Shafaq News – Baghdad/Erbil On Sunday, Kudish President Nechirvan Barzani stated that a comprehensive solution to the salary crisis would benefit all Iraqis, urging continued legal dialogue and mutual understanding, according to a statement. Barzani further expressed optimism about efforts to establish a 'roadmap' for resolving outstanding issues with Baghdad, emphasizing the need for constitutional cooperation and depoliticized handling of salary payments as a "national priority". The statement follows agreement between Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and Barzani on initial steps to address the Region's salary crisis. "Viable proposals were identified, and Parliament will support any agreement that ensures consistent salary distribution through coordination with the executive branch," al-Mashhadani added. Earlier in the day, the federal delegation held meetings with Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who both reiterated the importance of separating salary disbursement from political disputes and urged the federal government to take tangible action. Salary payments remain a core dispute between Baghdad and Erbil, alongside broader disagreements over oil revenues, constitutional authority, and federal budget allocations. The Kurdistan Regional Government maintains it has fulfilled its obligations—exporting crude via the state-run SOMO company and transferring proceeds to the federal treasury—while accusing Baghdad of withholding salaries in violation of prior agreements.
