VAAV athletes win 11 medals in Malaysia

Visakhapatnam: Veteran Athletics Association of Visakhapatnam (VAAV) athletes won a total of eleven medals including, six gold, two silver and three bronze medals, in the 37th Malaysian International Open Masters Athletics Championships-2025 held in Malaysia, said secretary general of India Masters Athletics Association Manga Vara Prasad.
The competition was held from May 23 to May 25 in Malaysia. In the women's category, HM Sujatha (67+) won two gold medals in discus throw and shot put. K. Matsyakonda (55+) won the gold medal in javelin throw. K. Poornima (40+) won silver medal in discus throw and bronze in javelin throw.
Also, from the men's category, R. Manjunath won three gold medals in 800-m, 1,500-m, 3,000-m Run, silver medal in long jump, Vara Prasad informed.
KBVM Prasad (40+) won two bronze medals in javelin throw and triple jump, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Veteran Athletics Association of Visakhapatnam chief petran Kamal Baid mentioned that the athletes worked hard to achieve their goals.
VAAV chief advisor Chintalapati Satyadev, co-ordinator CH. Srinivasaraju, PRO Vamsi Chintalapati, secretary L.V. Sudhakar, treasurer M. Rama Rao congratulated the winners.

Vijayawada: The10th National Open Taekwondo Championship – 2025 kicked off on Friday at the Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor Stadium here with NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha attending as a special guest. Dr Lakshmisha encouraged the athletes and extended his best wishes for them to showcase their talent and win medals. During the event, Collector Lakshmisha urged participants to strive for national and international medals, bringing honour to their hometowns, districts, state, and the country. He highlighted that the State government is placing special emphasis on sports development and advised athletes to utilise schemes and programmes offered by both central and state governments to further their careers. The 10th National Open Taekwondo Championship – 2025 will run for three days, starting from Friday. Organised by the Krishna District Taekwondo Association, the competition has drawn approximately one thousand athletes from various regions.

Navi Mumbai: Thane sprinter Harsh Raut, a senior practitioner at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)-run athletics academy, emerged as the fastest runner in the men's 100 metres at the recently held Indian Open Athletics Meet-2025 at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, reports B B Nayak. He clocked 10.38 seconds to bag the gold medal while establishing his personal best timing. At age 20 years, 3 months, and 26 days, Harsh has become the youngest Indian athlete to achieve the below 10.40 seconds barrier. He currently ranks 13th in India's all-time 100-metre rankings and features among the top 10 active Indian athletes. Additionally, he holds the third position in state's all-time 100-metre rankings. "I have been practising for years. I did exactly what my coach asked me to. I will work harder to improve my timing," said Harsh. His coach, Nilesh Patkar, stated, "It's a proud moment for us all. Harsh became my first athlete to run below 10.4 seconds. "
