Ross Doohan confident he can earn Celtic chance and become Scotland ‘mainstay'
Doohan, who spent most of the past two seasons as number two at Aberdeen after leaving Parkhead to join Tranmere in 2022, is expected to start off as third choice at Celtic behind Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.

'It's obviously going to be difficult,' he said when asked on Tuesday about the battle to get game time with the Scottish champions. 'There are two top goalkeepers at the club already and I'm buzzing to be working with them.
'I'm just looking to work as hard as I can and put my face out there. I'm hoping to push myself into the team. I know it'll be hard but I back myself.
'I know I've got a foot in the door now so I just need to go to training and show everyone what I can do because they've not seen me in training for a few years since I've left. I need to go and show them what I'm like now and really push myself and try and knock on the door to get in the team.'

Doohan said he had enjoyed 'a surreal couple of weeks' after landing his return to Celtic so soon after his unexpected international debut.
The keeper – summoned from his summer holiday to join the squad at a time when the paucity of Scottish options for the number one jersey was exposed by a string of injuries – is confident his big move can aid his quest to add to his solitary cap.
'I believe in myself and if I get a call-up again I'm hoping I'd impress and hopefully end up a mainstay in the squad,' said Doohan.
'Obviously I'm moving to one of the biggest clubs in the world and the biggest club in Scotland so that's always going to put you in good stead. I just need to push myself at Celtic, hopefully get some game time and then take it from there.'

Doohan has accumulated more than 60 first-team appearances for Tranmere, Aberdeen and Forest Green since he officially departed Celtic three years ago.
'I feel I've matured a lot both on and off the pitch,' he said. 'I've got a lot more experience and I feel my all-round game has gotten better so I'm just looking forward to getting in and working and showing everyone that.
'I feel like I grew up here basically. I was here since I was 12, 13, up until I left a few years ago so I've obviously got a major attachment here.
'It was always the dream to come back here and play and be part of the club again. I knew at the time when I left it was probably the right thing to do, to go out and get some game time, get more experience and even mature as an individual. I'm just absolutely buzzing I'm here again.'

The 25-year-old is expected to take the weekend before flying to Europe next week to undergo a medical on Monday or Tuesday. A deal could be announced shortly after with Celtic poised to turn a £14.2m profit on Kuhn within 18 months of signing him. Brendan Rodgers has already moved to sign Benjamin Nygren in a £1.7m deal and he may be viewed as the replacement for Kuhn. But given how short things are in the attacking positions, with Jota expected to be sidelined until the new year, the Kuhn windfall is likely to send Celtic back into the market for another winger. That's on top of their existing plans to add another striker and midfielder to Rodgers' squad. Interest in longstanding target Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who appears set to leave Antwerp whatever happens this month, could then be intensified once the Kuhn cash is in the bank. The Pittodrie club have, like many Scottish clubs, found it difficult to justify their extensive investment in developing homegrown talent in recent years due to the challenges presented by Brexit as well as an outdated FIFA training compensation matrix. However, the Scottish Cup winners, who plough £2.2m a year into rearing potential stars of tomorrow, are determined to retain their elite status within the Club Academy Scotland (CAS) framework. However, Aberdeen have decided they will not compete in the CAS Under-19 league going forward because they feel 'playing in a season-long, non-competitive youth league' was failing to produce the desired results. Read more: They are set to appoint a specialist transition coach who will work with a group of young players who will train with Jimmy Thelin's squad on a daily basis and gain international experience from a 'bespoke games programme'. Aberdeen director of football Steven Gunn explained: 'Given the challenge that Scottish football has in getting emerging talent into a first team environment, the decision has been taken to adopt a different approach, focusing on quality and not quantity. 'We are quite far down the line in terms of our recruitment of a transition coach and hope to have someone appointed in the coming weeks. This is a critical role, so we need to ensure we get it right. 'The transition coach will work alongside manager Jimmy Thelin and the wider first team coaching staff to help ensure a smooth and effective pathway exists, bridging the gap between the academy and the demands of senior professional football, technically, physically and mentally.' We are pleased to have signed him given the significant interest from some big clubs. For a player still so young, he has played an impressive volume of minutes for the first team and the Icelandic youth international squads. 'He has a very good defensive and positional mind for the game. He has performed well for Stjarnan when winning possession back for his team, makes key interceptions and protects the team in transition – all the qualities we look for at the base of our midfield. It' s impressive when you consider his age. 'He is a very exciting talent, but we also know we need to work with him to develop further, and he will take time to adapt to a new club, a new league and a new country. We must be patient, we must nurture him and at times we must protect him to ensure we are able to realise his significant potential.'
