Man City sign kit deal worth reported £1 billion
City's extension of their contract with Puma ranks as the largest kit manufacturing partnership in Premier League history.
Having agreed a £65 million per year deal with the German company in 2019, City's new arrangement is believed to be worth a £100 million per year until 2035, according to British media reports.
That figure shatters the £90 million per year deal signed by Manchester United with Adidas in 2023.
Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both reported to have kit deals worth in excess of £100 million per year.
"We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons," City Football Group chief executive Ferran Soriano said.
"Puma have seamlessly integrated into our organisation, and we have enjoyed many historic moments together, engaging fans globally."
Puma chief executive Arthur Hoeld added: "Puma's partnership with Manchester City has been a great success both on and off the pitch.
"Trophies, a perfect stage for our performance products and commercial success were exceptional."
City's massive deal comes after the club's first season without major silverware since 2016-17.
Pep Guardiola's men finished third in the Premier League after winning the title for the previous four seasons.
They also suffered a shock FA Cup final defeat against Crystal Palace and crashed out of the recent Club World Cup in the last 16 against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. - AFP

Cycling-Vintage Pogacar leaves Vingegaard shattered in first mountain test
Cycling - Tour de France - Stage 12 - Auch to Hautacam - Hautacam, France - July 17, 2025 UAE Team Emirates XRG's Tadej Pogacar wearing the yellow jersey shakes hands with France President Emmanuel Macron on the podium after winning stage 12 REUTERS/Benoit Tessier HAUTACAM, France (Reuters) -Tadej Pogacar unleashed a vintage assault on the unforgiving slopes of Hautacam, crushing the Tour de France 12th stage and leaving chief rival Jonas Vingegaard gasping for air and clinging to fading hopes on a brutal, suffocating Thursday. The world champion took no prisoners in the 13.5-km climb at 7.8% in stifling heat as two-time Tour winner Vingegaard finished two minutes and 10 seconds behind and now trails the defending champion by a massive 3:31 after the first high-mountain stage. It was a sweet revenge for UAE Team Emirates-XRG leader Pogacar, who was humiliated by Vingegaard on that same climb three years ago, when the Dane was on his way to snatching his first title in the world's biggest race. German Florian Lipowitz took third place after the 180.6 kilometre ride from Auch, 13 seconds behind Vingegaard, whose Visma-Lease a Bike team failed to live up to the hype, three years after a tactical coup had trapped Pogacar. Podium hopeful Remco Evenepoel was dropped early in the Col du Soulor, showing his limits in the first high-mountain stage. Although he fought his way back in the descent, his face a mask of pain, the Olympic champion cracked in the final climb and now sits 4:45 behind Pogacar, still in third place overall. Simon Yates and Matteo Jorgenson, two of Vingegaard's lieutenants for the mountain stages, also struggled and were of no help to their leader when it mattered. Frenchman Bruno Armirail, the last survivor of the morning breakaway, reached the foot of the climb to Hautacam with a two-minute lead over the favourites' group. It was never going to be enough of a cushion and Pogacar's teammate Jhonatan Narvaez's brutal acceleration 12.5km from the top was too much to handle for everyone but Vingegaard. However, he could not hold the Slovenian's wheel when he attacked. The world champion took his ear-piece off, cutting communications with his team to focus on his effort as Vingegaard, his face showing his distress, saw his rival disappear in the bends. The Dane managed to stay within 20 seconds for four kilometres before fading as Pogacar cut through the stuffiness. His advantage continued to grow, breaking the two-minute barrier as Vingegaard crumpled on his bike as if crushed by the weight of disappointment. Pogacar will now be looking for a fourth stage victory in Friday's mountain time trial, a 10.9km effort up to Peyragudes. (Reporting by Julien Pretot; Editing by Christian Radnedge)

Soccer-Barcelona agree sponsorship deal with DR Congo tourism ministry
KINSHASA (Reuters) -Democratic Republic of Congo has agreed to pay more than 40 million euros ($46.37 million) in a sponsorship deal with Spanish soccer club Barcelona that would see a logo promoting tourism appear on some team apparel, according to a contract seen on Thursday by Reuters. The contract with Barcelona is dated June 29 and stipulates that a logo branding the war-hit Central African country as the "heart of Africa" will appear on the backs of training and warm-up jerseys for the men's and women's teams. The logo will also appear in advertising for the club and in the club magazine and annual report, the contract says. Congo will pay the club between 10 million and 11.5 million euros annually over the next four seasons, it says. Details of the deal between Congo and Barcelona have not been announced. AS Monaco and AC Milan last month also announced sponsorship deals with Congo without disclosing the amounts. Congolese sports minister Didier Budimbu told Reuters the contract with AS Monaco is worth 1.6 million euros per season. He did not disclose the amounts for the contracts with AC Milan and Barcelona. A Congolese government source said the contract with AC Milan was worth 14 million euros per season. Congo's tourism ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday, while Barcelona told Reuters they had no comment at this time. In February Congo's foreign minister Therese Kayikwamba Wagner urged football clubs Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain to end their "blood-stained" sponsorship agreements with "Visit Rwanda". The appeal came less than a week after M23 rebels seized eastern Congo's biggest city, Goma as part of a lightning advance. Rwanda denies backing M23, saying it is defending itself. A report by a group of United Nations experts obtained by Reuters this month said Kigali exercisedcommand and control over the rebels during their advance, gaining political influence and access to mineral-rich territory. Ringgit slips further vs greenback on continued uncertainty about US tariffs
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit slipped further against the greenback on Thursday on continued uncertainty about US tariffs. At 6 pm, the local note dipped to 4.2465/2510 from 4.2400/2490 on Wednesday's close. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said market participants remained anxious about how US tariffs will impact the global economy. "US President Donald Trump has indicated that 150-plus countries will be notified about their respective tariff rates, which could be in the region of 10 to 15 per cent. At the same time, Trump also denied news on the possible termination of the current US Federal Reserve (Fed) chairman Jerome Powell. Market participants remain anxious about how the US tariffs will (play out),' he told Bernama. SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes said the markets were earlier jolted on the news regarding the fate of the Fed chairman, stirring concerns of a direct assault on the US central bank's independence. "That sparked a knee-jerk selloff of the US dollar and a brief bid into gold, but the move quickly reversed after Trump's (denial of a plan to fire Powell),' he added. On the ringgit, Innes said that while regional currencies broadly struggled today, the sentiment on the ringgit soured further due to Malaysia's current trade standing with the United States. "Unlike Indonesia, which recently inked a deal to reduce tariffs and deepen bilateral trade ties, Malaysia has made little visible progress on that front. That comparative stagnation is starting to bite, especially with global investors scrutinising who's in Washington's good books heading into a volatile period with the Aug 1 tariff deadline looming,' he added. At the close, the ringgit traded higher against a basket of major currencies. It was up versus the euro at 4.9217/9269 from 4.9248/9352 at yesterday's close but retreated against the British pound to 5.6886/6946 from 5.6786/6907 and declined against the Japanese yen to 2.8548/8580 from 2.8508/8569. The local note also trended mostly higher against ASEAN currencies. It inched up against the Indonesian rupiah to 259.8/260.2 from 260.3/260.9 and strengthened versus the Philippine peso to 7.41/7.43 from 7.43/7.45. The ringgit fell against the Thai baht to 13.0521/0720 from 13.0301/0630 and traded down vis-à-vis the Singapore dollar to 3.3013/3051 from 3.2999/3071. - Bernama
