Cop got Rs 35L salary in 12 years without training and never reporting to work

BHOPAL: In a bizarre incident, a police constable drew a salary of around Rs 35 lakh in 12 years, despite neither reporting for duty nor undergoing the mandatory training after his recruitment in 2011-2012.
A native of central MP's Vidisha district, Abhishek was among those recruited as constables in the state police in 2011-12. He appeared at the Bhopal District Lines for joining much later than other constables of his batch. He was subsequently sent for mandatory training at the Police Training School in Sagar district after induction into the police force.
However, instead of going for training, Abhishek went to his home in the neighbouring Vidisha district and neither underwent training nor reported for duty for 12 long years.
During his entire period of undue absence from duty, he neither informed the department about it nor did he ever apply for leave, yet he managed to get the monthly salary for 12 long years.
Abhishek then sent his service file through the speed post to Bhopal, citing ill health. Surprisingly, his service file was accepted by the department concerned in Bhopal without any verification, resulting in Abhishek receiving Rs 35 lakh as salary over the next 12 years.
The shocking irregularity came to light in 2023, when service records were being reviewed as part of the mandatory exercise for the 10-year-time scale pay grade of the 2011-12 batch constables.
'The service record check revealed no rewards, no punishments and no duty records, which was outlandish. He (Abhishek) was summoned by the department's establishment branch, after which he finally appeared, making it clear he had not served the police even a single day,' said ACP-Bhopal Ankita Khaterkar, who is probing the matter.
He has already returned Rs 1 lakh to the department and promised to pay back in instalments the salary drawn in 12 years. A departmental probe is underway.

Harveer was wanted in connection with a cheating case registered at Paras Pur police station in Gonda under BNS Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 504, 506, and 406. Harveer, originally from Basarke village in Tarn Taran district of Punjab, had been absconding after duping Gonda resident Sunil Kumar Dwivedi of Rs 50 lakh in 2021. Dwivedi's troubles began when he met Chandan Dixit, a co-accused from Chitrakoot, who introduced him to Harveer and Madan Gupta. They convinced Dwivedi to invest in a mining contract in Fatehpur, showcasing forged documents of a mining lease and promising a 10% partnership and substantial profits. Trusting them, Dwivedi handed over Rs 50 lakh, but the trio vanished without fulfilling their promises. The STF successfully apprehended Harveer near Parvati Hospital in Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, based on intelligence inputs. ‘Nimisha Priya faces execution in Yemenon July 16'

Kochi: Keralite nurse Nimisha Priya, currently on death row at the central prison in Yemen's capital Sana'a for the murder of a Yemeni national, is scheduled to be executed on July 16, according to human rights activist Samuel Jerome, who holds the power of attorney for Nimisha's mother Prema Kumari. However, there has been no official confirmation of the execution date from the Indian embassy in Yemen, ministry of external affairs (MEA) or Save Nimisha Priya Action Council. Jerome said the execution order was issued by the public prosecutor's office and handed over to prison authorities, who fixed July 16 as the date. Nimisha, a native of Kollengode in Palakkad, was accused of murdering Talal Abdo Mahdi — with whom she had started a health clinic in Sana'a and later reportedly entered into a marriage — in July 2017. She allegedly chopped his body and dumped the body parts in a water tank. Mahdi had reportedly tortured Nimisha and illegally seized her passport, which led to the murder. A trial court sentenced her to death in 2018, a verdict later upheld by an appeals court. Jerome said Nimisha and the MEA had been informed of the execution decision. He added that negotiations with Mahdi's family and tribal leaders over the payment of blood money would be expedited in view of the prison authorities' decision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Govt of India can also intervene now for her release...," said Jerome, who added that he will arrive in Yemen on Wednesday to hold further discussions. Subhash Chandran of the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council, however, said they had not received any confirmation of the execution date. "We are in close contact with multiple organisations in Yemen and embassy officials. We have not received any information regarding the execution so far," he said. Negotiations for Nimisha's release suffered a major setback last year when the lawyer appointed by the Indian Embassy demanded a pre-negotiation fee of over Rs 15 lakh. The action council managed to arrange $40,000 through mediators, but the effort fell through midway. Subhash said the council had established contact with Mahdi's family and was working to start negotiation talks, although the family has yet to make a demand for blood money. The prevailing political situation in Yemen is also a major challenge to secure Nimisha's release. While Sana'a is under the control of Houthi militias, the rest of the country is governed by an internationally recognised, Saudi-backed govt and UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC). The Yemeni embassy in Delhi represents the Saudi-backed govt and has no official ties with the Houthis.

2 held for Rs10.7cr GST evasion via fake firms

Lucknow: In a crackdown on tax fraud, Sadar Kotwali police in Rae Bareli on Monday evening arrested two members of an organised money laundering syndicate involved in GST evasion of Rs 10.76 crore through fake firms and bogus invoicing. The accused — Yogesh Garg alias Monu of Ghaziabad and Sanjay Thakur of Lucknow — were nabbed while they were going to meet a lawyer in connection with the case. Both were wanted in connection with a fake GST firm registered as Sarvashri Rajdhani Enterprises in Rae Bareli. Police said that the company was created using forged documents and SIM cards linked to previously surrendered GST accounts. Yogesh admitted that his identification documents were used to register the bogus firm, in return for a share of the fake GST refund proceeds. He told police that he worked under Sanjay Thakur, who in turn claimed to be part of a larger network operated by one Naresh Rana. The gang allegedly generated fake invoices for non-existent goods to falsely claim input tax credits (ITC) at 18% GST. These credits were then passed on to partner firms enabling the fraudulent transfer of Rs 10.76 crore in ITC after showing fictitious transactions of Rs 57.35 crore. A complaint was filed by Ramesh Chandra of Satyanagar, whose Aadhaar and mobile number were misused to set up the bogus entity though he had surrendered his GST account two years ago.
