Shehnaaz Gill's 12-Kg Weight Loss: How She Transformed Her Body Without Diet Fads or Intense Workouts
Shehnaaz Gill's inspiring transformation proves that mindful eating and portion control can work wonders—no fad diets or intense workouts needed.
Shehnaaz Gill, who gained nationwide popularity after her stint on Bigg Boss 13, surprised her fans during the COVID-19 lockdown with a striking physical transformation. The actor-singer reportedly lost 12 kilos in just six months, dropping from 67 kg to 55 kg, not by chasing trends or pushing herself through grueling gym routines, but by making simple, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Known for her bubbly persona, Shehnaaz has openly talked about the body shaming she faced early in her career. Instead of letting it diminish her spirit, she chose to focus inward during the lockdown. That time became a turning point in her health journey.
What Shehnaaz Gill Ate in a Day
In candid interviews with Shilpa Shetty and Times Foodie, Shehnaaz shared how her approach to food was rooted in balance and simplicity, rather than extremes.
Her Daily Diet Looked Like This:
Morning: A glass of warm water mixed with turmeric and apple cider vinegar to boost her metabolism.
Breakfast: Protein-rich foods like sprouted moong, dosa, or methi paratha.
Lunch: A wholesome plate of one whole-wheat roti, dal, vegetables, sprout salad, and a small portion of ghee.
Evening Snack: A handful of roasted makhana (fox nuts).
Dinner: Light and easy meals—often just soup or sautéed vegetables.
Minimal Variety, Maximum Impact
Speaking to ETimes, Shehnaaz shared a key insight: she simplified her meals. 'I ate just one or two items daily. If I had dal and moong for lunch, I would eat the same for dinner. I didn't mix too many things. Also, I reduced my food quantity. If I felt like eating two rotis, I would eat just one," she said.
Shehnaaz lost 12 kilos in less than six months without any intense exercise plan. She credits her mindful and measured eating habits for making the difference.
Why Her Approach Worked
Portion Control
Rather than giving up her favourite foods, Shehnaaz simply cut down her portion sizes. According to a 2021 study in Obesity Research & Clinical Practice, portion control is one of the most effective methods for healthy weight loss.
Mindful Eating
Shehnaaz embraced mindful eating, a practice that encourages being fully present while eating—savouring each bite and listening to your body. Research published in the British Medical Bulletin in 2021 highlights how mindful eating can reshape food habits and reduce emotional eating.
What About Exercise?
While Shehnaaz didn't rely on intense workouts to shed weight, she did include light movement like walking. These small additions helped her stay active, but her transformation was primarily driven by diet. Today, she has expanded her routine to include yoga and other fitness activities as part of her overall wellness.
