Maharashtra: Manickam Tagore slams

India Gazette24-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Congress leader Manickam Tagore on Tuesday slammed the Mahayuti-led Maharashtra government for lack of infrastructural facilities in rural areas, questioning whether 'RSS product' Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will take responsibility for it after a woman had to be carried with a makeshift palanquin while giving birth.
The Congress leader had highlighted various instances where people had to carry pregnant women in makeshift palanquins due to proper roads not being available in the rural areas in Thane district.
'In Shahapur, Thane, a pregnant woman had to be carried in a doli -- a makeshift palanquin -- because there is no road to her village. In 2025, India talks about Chandrayaan, 5G and Viksit Bharat. But here, we fail to provide even a basic approach road for an ambulance,' Tagore wrote in a post on X.

'Will RSS product Devendra will take responsibility for this shameful state of infrastructure? Why are rural women still risking their lives for basic healthcare? India deserves better. Villages deserve dignity,' Tagore added.
Highlighting another incident of a woman who had to be carried and suffered a seizure, the Congress leader called it 'criminal state neglect' to let such things happen
'21-year-old Sangita Mukane was in labour. No road meant no ambulance. Villagers walked over 1 km carrying her in a bamboo palanquin. She suffered a seizure before reaching the hospital. This is not tragedy. This is criminal state neglect. Local activist Prakash Khodka says: 'We are in 2025, but this is the condition of areas close to urban centres.' Despite repeated pleas, the panchayat has not built the road. Governance doesn't mean slogans. It means action on the ground,' his post added.
According to the news report shared by Tagore, a video of a 21-year-old Ravindra Mukane being carried in a doli over a distance of more than one kilometre from Chanfewadi village to an ambulance parked at Gaidang Road went viral on social media.
According to the report, a local activist Prakash Khodka had said that there have been repeated appeals made to the authorities, but the Nadgaon gram panchayat has not done anything to construct roads. (ANI)

Rahul pushes for OBC quota in English medium schools

Hyderabad: Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday said the caste survey conducted by the Telangana govt—and the subsequent analysis by an independent expert group—made it clear that education, especially in English medium, is the most critical driver of socio-economic mobility for OBCs. Building on these findings, he announced that the Indian National Congress will push for reservations for OBCs and other marginalised groups in English medium private educational institutions—marking what he called the party's third major step towards OBC empowerment. Speaking at the Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, Rahul said: "The Telangana caste survey revealed that those with an English medium education advanced further than even uneducated landlords and wealthy individuals. This does not mean Hindi or regional languages like Bengali, Tamil, or Kannada aren't important—they are—but English is crucial for progress." Rahul Gandhi outlined the Congress party's three-pronged agenda for OBC upliftment: Conducting caste surveys in all states where the party is in power, breaking the 50% cap on total reservations, and holding a national caste census if voted to power at Centre. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Start planning your next adventure today Hotel Deals | Search Ads Browse Now Undo He pointed out that OBCs, despite making up nearly 50% of India's population, own no major corporate or media houses and have little to no representation in the judiciary and top institutions. Admitting past shortcomings, he said: "I did not fully understand the extent of injustice faced by OBCs earlier. And the OBCs themselves were not aware of their strength. This is because the RSS and BJP have systematically erased OBC history from textbooks. Unlike SC and ST history, OBC struggles are invisible in the school curriculum. That is deliberate." Calling the RSS the 'biggest enemy' of OBCs, Rahul blamed 'Manuvaadi ideology' for institutional discrimination and vowed to correct past neglect. He praised chief minister Revanth Reddy, saying the state's caste survey was a bold step. "Revanth Reddy told me he had no choice. He saw firsthand the injustice being done to OBCs and felt compelled to act," Rahul Gandhi said.

Congress cadre wait prolongs for political appointments to Karnataka's boards

Bengaluru: Even as the Congress high command finalised names to head 29 smaller boards and corporations, hundreds of political posts of directors and members remain in limbo, leading to fresh disappointment among the party cadre in Karnataka. Chief minister Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar, who also heads KPCC, met AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala in Delhi Thursday to finalise the limited list. Party insiders say Shivakumar is likely to release the names of chairpersons once he returns to Bengaluru this weekend. Siddaramaiah told the media that Shivakumar, Surjewala and he had finalised chairpersons for boards and corporations, making a few changes. However, the final decision is up to the party high command," said Siddaramaiah. However, the much-awaited appointments to the remaining 950 posts continue to be delayed. Of the 1,118 sanctioned political posts across boards and corporations, only 118 have been filled so far. According to officials in the chief minister's office (CMO), the party has now decided to collect three nominations per assembly constituency from the party's sitting MLAs and defeated candidates of the 2023 elections to identify suitable candidates for the posts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo "Names for 650 posts have been completed with the new exercise being considered for 300 pending posts," said a CMO official. Despite repeated assurances from the top leadership about "rewarding" party workers for their efforts in bringing Congress to power in 2023, the delay continues nearly two years into the govt's term. To speed up the process, Siddaramaiah had set up a panel in June 2024 under home minister G Parameshwara to identify eligible functionaries. The panel submitted over 500 names to the high command, but none has been cleared so far. Siddaramaiah had earlier promised that the appointments would be finalised by July 16 — a deadline that has come and gone. Party insiders attribute the delay to factionalism. "One group approves a list, but another opposes it. A third group of functionaries under a senior leader seeks its own validation for the posts. Overall, internal politics has delayed the appointments for a while now," said a cabinet minister, suggesting that it may still take another week to 10 days for the list to be cleared. Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad, who is also on the Parameshwara-led panel, expressed optimism that the impasse would end shortly. – Quote The list of chairpersons for boards and corporations, along with the list of names for members and directors, will be concluded soon. There shall be no more delay -Rizwan Arshad, Shivajinagar MLA

Rahul hails T caste survey as blueprint for social justice 2.0, lauds CM Revanth

Hyderabad: In a major political endorsement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hailed Telangana's caste survey as a 'historic step' and a model for social justice 2.0, declaring that it will shape India's future direction. Political observers said the rare and emphatic praise not only boosts chief minister A Revanth Reddy's standing within the party, but also reinforces the Gandhi family's enduring emotional connect with Telangana. "The Telangana model is visionary, inclusive, and powered by 21st century data. It is Social Justice 2.0 and it will define how India moves forward," Rahul posted on X. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad He was speaking hours after the Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan at Delhi's Talkatora Stadium, where he called the caste survey a 'political earthquake', comparing its impact to a tsunami on India's entrenched power structures. "A caste survey will be conducted in every state where the Congress comes to power," he declared. Significantly, he underlined the Gandhi family's legacy in Telangana's formation, recalling how Sonia Gandhi's fight to create the state laid the foundation for the current push towards caste-based justice. "Soniaji's fight to create Telangana cemented our deep emotional connection to the people, the language and the culture of this beautiful state," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa Prices in Dubai Might Be Lower Than You Think! "I am filled with immense pride. The govt's inclusive and consultative approach has set a new benchmark that should guide future census exercises," Rahul further wrote on X. The survey has led to the recommendation of 42% OBC reservations in local body elections and educational institutions, with the bill currently awaiting Presidential assent. For Telangana leadership, the political significance of Rahul's remarks is far-reaching. His public and internal praise for Revanth's leadership is seen as a clear rebuttal to BRS and BJP claims that Rahul was distancing himself from the CM. For weeks, opposition parties and some sections within the Congress had questioned whether the high command was fully backing Revanth, citing missed appointments and intra-party chatter. Those doubts appear to have been put to rest. Thursday's caste survey presentation, attended by deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior ministers was a moment of reckoning for the Telangana Congress. Revanth, during the presentation, had read aloud a letter from Sonia praising the caste survey. "This is my Oscar. My Nobel. A lifetime achievement award," he said emotionally. "Sonia Gandhi gave us Telangana, and now, her words have validated this major reform," he said. At the same meeting, Rahul acknowledged his own initial doubts. "I wondered whether Revanth's own community or other forward castes would support the survey. But Revanth convinced everyone. He delivered, and did it with high competence. This is going to define how caste census is done in India – whether BJP likes it or not," he said.
