Conor Coady message to Rangers insider amid Wrexham interest as initial Ibrox transfer offer surfaces
The defender has been a long-term target at Ibrox so far this summer but is still on the books at Leicester In-demand Conor Coady is still keeping tabs on Rangers amid reported interest from Wrexham. The Leicester City defender has been a target at Ibrox all summer - with both the Scottish Premiership giants and Coady had been keen to make a deal happen. The England cap had been keen to link up with Russell Martin in time for the double-header against Panathinaikos - but he remains with the Foxes as new boss Marti Cifuentes has been unable to find a replacement. The 32-year-old has remained as captain going into the new season but is now attracting interest from cash-rich Wrexham after entering the final year of his contract. The Red Dragons - owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - reportedly want to bring in the England international as part of their ambitious plan to reach the English top-flight by 2027. But amid the interest, Coady signalled he is still keeping tabs on the Light Blue after they progressed through the Champions League qualification rounds with a draw in Athens enough to secure an aggregate victory as he sent a message to Jack Butland Goalkeeper Butland took to Instagram to acknowledge the Rangers support by posting 'on to the next" with a bear and union jack emoji and images from the 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium - which was liked by Coady. It comes after details of Rangers' initial approach for the 32-year-old have emerged, with the Leicester Mercury stating a loan offer was put on the table. It is said Leicester rejected the offer as they are looking to offload players and boost their transfer budget - with free agent Asmir Begovic the only new face in the door so far this summer for the cash-strapped club. With Coady set to leave at the end of the campaign as a free agent, any bid for the centre-back will be seriously considered by City this summer. Boss Cifuentes conceded last week that players had to be sold in this window following Premier League relegation. The Spaniard said: 'It's very clear we have a lot of players in the squad. Definitely there is a lot of quality, but at the same time we need to understand that we need to trim this squad. 'At the moment we have 32 players which is quite a lot. It's not what I want. Everybody is aware is that the market, there's a lot of weeks until it's closed. A lot of things can happen."

Why Chelsea must move quickly to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and ease some of the burden on Cole Palmer
Read on to find out why Xavi Simons could be the signing that protects Palmer SIMONS SWOOP Why Chelsea must move quickly to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and ease some of the burden on Cole Palmer Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RB LEIPZIG star Xavi Simons could be just the man to ease the creative burden on Cole Palmer at Chelsea. Together, the Netherlands and England starlets would give the Blues a new level of attacking threat. Palmer, 23, is Chelsea's talisman, the man they ask to make things happen. In the Club World Cup final a fortnight ago, he scored twice and set up the third in the 3-0 win over Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain. But when the Three Lions star is not in form, as was the case for much of the second half of last season, Chelsea struggle to score and create. Enzo Maresca's side need another playmaker capable of unlocking defences, making chances for others and taking them himself. READ MORE ON CHELSEA Palm Reader Cole Palmer tipped for shock Man Utd transfer by ex-Fergie coach The Stamford Bridge outfit have also been linked with Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Alejandro Garnacho at Manchester United. But statistics suggest it is £60million-rated Simons, 22, who has the skillset and quality to match Palmer's output. Maresca unleashing both Palmer and the RB Leipzig star on Premier League defences could be a frightening prospect. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK 8 It is too simplistic to say Simons is a right-footed version of Palmer, who likes to cut in from the left as the England international does from the other side. But they both do a lot of the same things very well and, in most cases, better than Rogers, Eze and Garnacho. Do Man United fans want Nicolas Jackson? Simons had an impressive 2024-25 campaign, despite being part of a Leipzig side that lost seven of their eight Champions League games and finished outside the European places in Bundesliga. The Dutch international's ten goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances were below Palmer's figures of 15 and eight in 37 Prem games. But when you look at their numbers calculated per 90 minutes, Simons matched or bettered Palmer's output. Away from the more obvious stats like goals and assists, there are others which show how Simons might not only provide Palmer-like qualities but also offer something new. Amazingly, he had nearly 15 more touches per 90 minutes than Palmer and was also fouled more often. This is a player who wants to get on the ball and is prepared to take responsibility — as well as the hits that come with it. 8 Simons has been tipped to be the face of the Dutch national team Credit: Getty 8 Manchester United have been linked but it's Chelsea that he really wants Credit: EPA Simons also averaged more progressive carries and won possession in the final third more often. Over the course of their careers in the big five European leagues, Palmer (two full seasons in the Prem) comes out ahead of Simons (two full seasons in the Bundesliga and a smattering of Ligue 1 experience at PSG) in a number of areas. But you can argue that Simons' breakout year for PSV Eindhoven in 2022-23 — Holland's Eredivisie is not one of the Big Five — should also be taken into account. He scored 19 times and provided eight assists in 34 league appearances, bouncing back from his difficult spell at PSG. There are always worries about whether players who are outstanding in other big leagues can reproduce that form in England. Rogers, Eze and Garnacho, to one extent or other, have proved themselves in the Premier League. But the fact remains that Simons outperforms them in pretty much every area except dribbling. And Chelsea have already signed out-and-out wingers Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian to boost them in that area. Simons is also versatile. He started on the left most of the time for Leipzig last season but not as a full blown winger, as he tended to come inside to impose himself on the game. 8 Palmer needs rest and Chelsea need a player who has equal ability to step in for him every now and then Credit: Getty 8 Simon plays with a similar intensity as Palmer And he has also played on the right, as an attacking midfielder, No 10 and even a false nine. He would give Blues boss Maresca a variety of options and fits the Chelsea policy of buying gifted young players. If the Londoners do complete a deal for Simons, doubts will be raised about how Maresca fits all that attacking talent into one team. Could Palmer and Simons play together, without treading on each other's toes? If one failed to deliver, then the other might. But if they both click, Chelsea's opponents at home and abroad would be in for a torrid time.

Ex-Celtic ace ‘one of FOUR team-mates involved with same fan' as club react to claim he cheated on wife at gas station
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Celtic star Alexandro Bernabei is at the centre of a storm in Brazil amid allegations he cheated on his wife with a blonde fan of new club Internacional at a gas station. And incredibly, it's claimed the former Hoops star is one of FOUR members of the same team who are involved with the same woman, who is said to be the daughter of a businessman linked to the club. But the blonde fan in question, as quoted in various outlets, alleges that the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck with things "quickly escalating to kissing and sexual conversations in the car". It's a scandal which has rocked Brazil in recent days, with Internacional even attempting to laugh it off with a social media post which read: "Whether by bus, van, or Amarok, grab three more friends and come to Beira-Rio!" Bernabei signed for the Hoops from from Argentine side Lanus in 2022 for £3.75m and was expected to potentially dislodge Greg Taylor from the left-back slot. But after only 28 appearances in just under two full seasons at Parkhead he was sent on loan to Internacional in Brazil, where his performances earned a permanent deal with a fee in the region of £5m in January. He's become a massive hero with the club's fans - but this report could put that reputation at risk. It's claimed that the woman in question reached out to Bernabei's wife with an Instagram message after the incident. Backed up by screenshots of social media messages apparently exchanged between the pair, a report first aired in Portal LeoDias reads: "According to reports and screenshots obtained by our team, the Argentine player allegedly cheated on his wife with a blonde fan in an extramarital encounter on July 10th at a gas station in the south zone of Porto Alegre. It adds: "According to the woman, Bernabei used Instagram's temporary mode to automatically delete conversations between the two, in an attempt to avoid any kind of recording. "The meeting place was chosen because it was private, away from the city's hustle and bustle, and the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "In her account, the fan claims that the atmosphere between the two quickly escalated to kissing and sexual conversations in the car. "She also points out that Bernabei maintains contact with other women and acts deliberately to keep his wife's attention away." The woman in question is quoted as telling reporters: "I could tell: he wasn't just mine. This guy is a jerk. He's chatting with several women, exchanging messages with other women, fans." "He completely disregards his wife's suspicions. He denies it to the end, puts on a saintly front, and plays the victim." She claims that Bernabei promised to do it again, saying: 'I went to get out of the car and he pulled me back to kiss me some more and said he was going to call me to see me again. She added: "I even told [his wife], Look I'm sorry, I made a mistake with you. "I'm coming here to tell you all this, I made a mistake but I'm telling you this." 4 The woman contacted Benabei's wife Credit: Portal LeoDias "I ended up regretting it but she didn't believe me and that was it. I ave a boyfriend but I had a fight with him, we weren't together at the time. It wasn't a matter of me cheating. "People are judging me, saying I wanted fame. The last thing I want is that. I don't want to be seen. I don't want anyone to know my name. I'm coming here precisely because I wasn't the only one." Bernabei has shared numerous snaps of himself with his partner on social media, writing: 'The most sacred thing: family!!!' Back in August 2023, he was fined £1,875 after he was found to be driving when more than twice over the limit. He was picked up by cops in Glasgow city centre after the Hoops' 5-0 win at Kilmarnock with 48 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 22 micrograms.
