RM1 million boost for Kampung Temerlok through MMEA community programme
IPOH: A total of RM1 million has been allocated for the development of Kampung Temerlok in Trong, near Taiping, under the MADANI Adopted Village initiative carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
MMEA director-general Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the agency's efforts now extend beyond maritime security, with a renewed focus on uplifting inland rural communities.
'Today, MMEA proves that our role goes beyond safeguarding the seas. We are also committed to serving the people through community-based programmes and targeted outreach efforts,' he said during the MMEA's Qurban and Spiritual programme held in the village today.
Among the five key projects to be funded through the special allocation from the Finance Ministry is the construction and repair of the Sungai Tok Lin fishermen's jetty, a vital economic lifeline for local fishermen.
Other projects include roof repairs at Al-Mahmudiah Religious School, refurbishment of the Flood Relief Centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Temerlok, maintenance and repair works at Masjid Al-Mahmudiah, and cleaning of the mosque grounds and the nearby Muslim cemetery.
Masjid Al-Mahmudiah also received two air-conditioning units, installed in its meeting room.
More than 150 MMEA personnel took part in a gotong-royong (communal work) with villagers to spruce up the village, mosque, and cemetery.
Mohd Rosli added that the agency also donated three cows for the Aidiladha sacrificial rites, with meat distributed to 200 residents, including senior citizens, single mothers, and underprivileged families.

MMEA SAR operations saved 1,000 lives nationwide last year
PASIR PUTEH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) successfully rescued 1,259 individuals through 226 search and rescue (SAR) operations nationwide last year. Kelantan Maritime director Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi revealed that 64 fatalities were recorded, while 25 victims remain missing. Speaking at a press conference during the 2025 Maritime Awareness and Safety Day celebration, Erwan Shah highlighted the agency's operational efficiency. 'The statistics reflect MMEA's preparedness in emergency maritime situations,' he said. The annual event also serves as a platform to educate fishermen, tourists, and maritime operators on sea safety. 'We are intensifying awareness campaigns through community talks, social media, and safety exhibitions to reduce risks and strengthen ties with coastal communities,' he added. MMEA ensures at least one standby asset per state for rapid emergency response.

Hutan Melintang Fire: Census Conducted To Channel Aid; Cause Still Under Probe
BAGAN DATUK, June 28 (Bernama) -- The Perak Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the village chief's office have conducted an immediate census to provide aid to the victims of the Hutan Melintang fire. District Disaster Management Committee chairman Nazrul Fazami Mohamad said that relevant departments and agencies have been mobilised to conduct a quick census of the affected victims. 'JKM and the village chief's office have begun the census to complete the documentation procedures in a timely manner. "We have also requested all victims to lodge police reports so that state-level disaster aid can be channelled through the Bagan Datuk District and Land Office," he said when visiting the victims and the incident site today. In the 4.30 am incident, 23 properties in Bagan Pasir Laut near here were razed. This included 19 Class B and C houses, each approximately 92.9 square metres in size, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a sundry shop. No casualties were reported. Nazrul Fazami said that no relief centre (PPS) has been opened, as all victims are reportedly staying with their relatives nearby. "A meeting with representatives of the residents found that all victims currently have temporary shelter, so there is no need to open a PPS at this time. "However, further discussions will be held from time to time to assess the need to open a PPS should the situation arise," he said. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said it was still too early to determine the cause of the fire.
