Family of fallen Roswell police officer shares their memories of him
Labonte died in the line of duty on February 7. He responded to a call about a suspicious person at the Ace Pickleball Club on Holcomb Bridge. When he arrived, someone shot and killed him.
'It felt like somebody just broke my heart in half,' his wife, Alyssa Labonte said.
She told Channel 2′s Eryn Rogers the two had known each other since the 5th grade growing up in Douglasville.
'By the 7th grade, he asked me to be his girlfriend or whatever that means at that age, and we grew up together and stayed together all his life,' she said.
Officer Labonte's wife Alyssa and his little sister, Morgan Labonte, said he died doing what he loved.
'I think he just always had a heart for helping people even when he was younger,' Morgan Labonte said.
His wife said he especially loved serving the city of Roswell.
'We grew up in a really small private school, and I think he liked that Roswell was such a community,' Alyssa Labonte said. 'That really drew him in.'
They said they miss the little things that made Officer Labonte who he was.
'He loved working out,' Alyssa Labonte said. 'I would always say there's an old soul trapped inside him because even though he was 24 years old, he'd rather be at home with his dog. He collected bourbon, so he'd rather just be with a glass of bourbon on the couch at 8 p.m.
And it's those moments his family says they'll always hold dear.
'I feel honored and not lucky enough to be married to such an amazing man,' Alyssa Labonte said.
The family said right now they're working with the Roswell Police Department to set up what they hope will become an annual memorial walk in his honor.

Murder probe launched into body found during search for Brian Tarrence in Turks and Caicos
Cops on a Caribbean island where a Manhattan man disappeared during a romantic getaway with his wife have launched a murder probe into a decomposed body suspected of being the missing man. The Turks and Caicos Island police force said on Facebook Sunday that the grisly discovery on Saturday — less than two weeks after New Yorker Brian Tarrence went missing from a local Airbnb — is now a 'suspected homicide.' 3 New Yorker Brian Tarrence went missing while on vacation with his wife in Turks and Caicos. 3 Tarrance was last seen leaving his AirBnb in Providenciales around 3 a.m. Authorities have yet to officially identify the body. 'Efforts are underway to confirm the identity of the deceased,' police said online. 'Once an identification has been made, the next of kin will be notified in accordance with standard procedures.' Tarrence, 51, arrived on the British territory on June 25 with his wife to celebrate their one-year anniversary but he vanished three days later, wandering off around 3:30 a.m. while his wife slept. Carl DeFazio, an ex-NYPD cop hired to investigate the disappearance, said last week that Turks and Caicos officials were doing all they could to locate Tarrence, a vice president with Diligent Software in Manhattan. 3 Police have launched a homicide investigation into the body found while searching for Tarrence. Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Tarrence's family and DeFazio did not reply to calls for comment.

Ex-UFC\u00a0fighter Godofredo Pepey arrested for kidnapping, domestic violence; wife speaks out
Pepey's wife, his alleged victim, says combat sports world rife with domestic abuse: 'Stop treating this as a secret' Ex-UFC fighter Godofredo Pepey arrested, held for kidnapping, domestic violence; wife speaks out Former UFC fighter Godofredo Pepey was arrested earlier this week and is being held in Florida for charges including domestic violence. Brazilian news outlet Combate was first to report the news of Pepey's arrest in Deerfield Beach in South Florida. Court documents show Pepey, who turned 38 Wednesday, charged with kidnapping and inflicting bodily harm or terrorizing the victim; domestic battery by strangulation; witness tampering; and domestic violence. The combined bail was set for the Brazilian at $120,000. But a fifth charge is an immigration hold on Pepey. In essence, that means if he makes bail, it would only be so he could be taken into custody by immigration officials for possible deportation. In the aftermath of Pepey's arrest, his wife, Samara Mello, posted on Instagram, in coordination with Rose Gracie of the non-profit Fighting Foundation, a charity supporting fighters – or in this case, the wife of one. The photo included showed a battered, bloodied and bruised portion of her face. The post, written in Portuguese, said she is a survivor of domestic violence and that it is prevalent enough in the combat sports world that it needs to be addressed more than it has been. "We need to stop treating this as a secret. Violence grows in silence," Mello posted, via translation. "I hope the authorities in Brazil and the world understand that the blood on my face and my body flows through the hands of those who still see femicide as a statistic and they don't do enough to change it." Mello's most recent social media post on the Instagram platform that included Pepey was less than a month ago and included a slide show of many photos of the couple together. But her Thursday post painted a very different story. Pepey (14-7), from Fortaleza, was on Season 1 of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" in 2012. He lost the featherweight final to Rony Jason, then went on to 10 more fights in the UFC with a mixed bag that left him 5-6 overall in the promotion. But a stretch in 2014-2014 on the heels of back-to-back losses saw him go on a yearlong surge of three straight first-round finishes – and three straight post-fight performance bonuses, including one for a triangle choke finish of Andre Fili in the most standout moment of his career. Pepey was cut loose from the UFC after three losses in four fights, though, in 2018. Since then, he has fought just three more times, most recently a first-round loss to Abdoul Abdouraguimov in the Ares FC 3 main event in Paris in early 2022.
