Four-stage 2025 Women's Tour of Britain set for northern England and Scotland
Buoyed by news that the men's and women's Tour de France will start in Britain in 2027, this summer's four-day women's race will start in Yorkshire on 5 June and end in Glasgow four days later.
The opening two stages will take in Dalby Forest, the North York Moors national park and the Tees Valley, before heading to the Scottish Borders on stage three, before the final stage on a city-centre circuit in Glasgow.
The Scottish rider Neah Evans said: 'I started my cycling journey after a taster session at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome so Glasgow is a special place to me for that.'
Jonathan Day, managing director of British Cycling Events, said: 'We have first visits for the race to Dalby Forest and the North York Moors national park, from where we will race through North Yorkshire and into the Tees Valley.
'Saltburn Bank as a stage finish [stage two] will prove very popular with fans,' Day added. Saltburn's 15% gradients have featured in past editions of the men's Tour of Britain and have hosted the British national championships.
The Belgian rider Lotte Kopecky, winner of the world road race title in Glasgow in 2023, is expected to defend her title, while the sport's highest-paid rider, Demi Vollering of the Netherlands, and 2024 Tour de France champion, Polish star Kasia Niewadoma, are also potential starters.
The continued growth of women's cycling is reflected by both the unprecedented status of Vollering, as a Nike ambassador and the highest earner in the women's peloton, and steady growth in rider salaries, allied to reports that global revenues from women's elite sport will reach at least £1.88bn this year.
Detailed route information for both the men's and women's Tours of Britain will be announced later in the spring.
Meanwhile, the host towns for the men's Tour of Britain, scheduled for 2 to 7 September, have yet to be announced and details remain scant. Both races will be directed by Rod Ellingworth, formerly of Team Sky and Ineos Grenadiers, now also working as a senior manager at the Bahrain Victorious on the UCI World Tour.

The popular supermarket worked with grower partners Bruce Farms and supplier Scotty Brand to bring this unique variety to the shop floors. Geoff Bruce, director at Bruce Farms, said: "The golden raspberries have been a real passion project for us and it's exciting to be at the forefront of introducing something new to the Scottish soft fruit sector. "As growers, we're always looking for ways to innovate and explore different varieties that not only thrive in our climate but also offer a unique selling point for customers." What shoppers can expect from bizarre new item In addition to the distinctive yellow colour, the fruit is said to have a "delicate texture" and bring all the flavour of traditional varieties of the beloved berry. Andrew Scott, development manager at Scotty Brand, added: "Our long-standing partnership with Asda has enabled us to bring this exclusive new product to market, supporting growth and diversification within the sector while showcasing the exceptional quality of Scottish produce and the vital role of local, sustainable growing practices." West Lothian woman's life-long commitment to athletics recognised with MBE presentation by the King
Sandra Hardacre is from Mid Calder is a coach at Livingston Athletics Club A West Lothian woman who has dedicated her life to athletics has received her MBE from King Charles III. Sandra Hardacre, 63, a coach at Livingston Athletics Club, was awarded the honour for her services to sport. The mum and gran from Mid Calder was among those named in the New Year Honour list. She first got involved in athletics when she was 10 years old. Sandra began coaching voluntarily at grassroots level as a teenager and has guided a number of young Scottish athletes to success over the years. She met with King Charles at Holyrood Palace on Tuesday where she was presented with the honour. 'I was a bit nervous but felt really proud,' said Sandra. 'The King was standing on a plinth in the throne room and asked me what involvement I still have in athletics. 'I told him I still officiate and coach. Then he asked what I used to do when I competed and also added that he thought Scotland was in a really good place at the moment with athletics. 'I told him I have been doing this for a long time and it's nice to give something back.' Sandra still coaches four days a week and officiates at weekends. She added: 'I don't know what I'd do without athletics, my life has just always been this. It's great seeing young people come through.' Sandra was accompanied to Holyrood Palace by her husband, Gary, son Ian and daughter-in-law Abbi. Lead coach for middle distance at Livingston, Sandra has volunteered at the club for over 20 years. She is a familiar figure at National and District cross country and road running events throughout Scotland and was a Technical Official at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
