The Director General (DG) Shipping has released the complete cargo manifest of MV Wan Hai 503, confirming that it carried 1,754 containers of which 1,083 were in the cargo hold under deck and 671 on the deck.
As per the report, 143 containers carried dangerous cargo, including flammable liquids and solids, substances that can emit flammable gases, and toxic substances. Efforts are on to retrieve and identify any containers lost overboard.
'Two Coast Guard vessels are involved in firefighting operations while the other vessels are engaged in border cooling and search for the four missing crew members. The fire on the deck has been contained but dark smoke is billowing from the vessel. There is fire inside the cargo hold,' said an officer.

When both the vessels did not return to shores as expected on Saturday, the District Administration and Fisheries Department were alerted. As the boats were drifted to the Sri Lankan waters due to westerly winds, there were concerns that winds might push them further into the Sri Lankan territory. An official from the Fisheries department said the Indian Coast Guard has informed the Sri Lankan Navy about the situation. A Coast Guard vessel along with two mechanised boats fitted with transponders have departed from Thoothukudi on Sunday (June 29) to carry out the rescue operation. 'It will take at least seven hours for these boats to reach the spot,' the official mentioned. Thoothukudi Collector K. Elambahavath told The Hindu that a Coast Guard vessel from the nearest point had reached the stranded boats and rescued them from the Sri Lankan waters. The vessels are expected to reach Thoothukudi by Monday.

A cargo ship transporting new vehicles to Mexico sank in the North Pacific Ocean weeks after its crew abandoned it, unable to put out a fire that had left the vessel stranded. The Morning Midas sank Monday in international water off Alaska's Aleutian Islands chain, the ship's management company, London-based Zodiac Maritime, said in a statement. "There is no visible pollution," said Petty Officer Cameron Snell, an Alaska-based US Coast Guard spokesperson. "Right now we also have vessels on scene to respond to any pollution." Why did the cargo ship sink? Fire damage compounded by bad weather and water seepage caused the carrier to sink in waters about 16,404 feet (5,000 metres) deep and about 415 miles (770 kilometres) from land, the official statement said. The ship was loaded with about 3,000 new vehicles intended for a major Pacific port in Mexico. It was not immediately clear if any of the cars were removed before it sank, and Zodiac Maritime did not immediately respond to messages Tuesday.
