With regard to asset quality, she said, the gross non-performing assets improved to 1.1 per cent at the end of FY25 from 1.5 per cent at the end of the previous financial year, supported by live monitoring, strong partner oversight, and transaction-led underwriting.

Father-son Kumbh Mela journey rewarded with special edition bike

Udupi: The 23-year-old Prajwal Shenoy, who took his father to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela on his 25-year-old Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle, was offered a Centennial Collectors-Edition bike by the company as a gift. When he failed to get train or flight tickets, Prajwal commenced his journey on the bike with his father, Rajendra Shenoy, as a pillion from Machakal in Shirva of Udupi district on Feb 6 and reached Prayagraj on Feb 10. Recognising his passion for adventures on the bike, Hero MotorCorp gifted Prajwal the Centennial Collectors-Edition bike. Vijay Kumar T Karne, managing director of Shakti Motors, Udupi, handed over the bike and safety gear to Prajwal in the presence of manager Rahul Mirajkar on Saturday. Prajwal told TOI that he received the Centennial Collectors-Edition bike as well as safety gear as gifts from the company. "They recognised my adventure of riding with my father to participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela and other trips. I covered 16 states of India on the bike earlier. While some of the rides were solo, the majority of the trips were accompanied by my father as a pillion rider. My father and I travelled to Ladakh too," said Prajwal, who is a second-year student of the hotel management and tourism course at the Srinivas Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... He recalled the spiritual moment that made him and his father happy to reach the sacred Sangam for a holy dip during the Maha Kumbh Mela, a rare spiritual gathering that occurs only once in 144 years. "We rode the bike throughout the day and rested in a tent near petrol bunks. We covered over 3,900km in nine days while riding an average of 550 to 600km per day," he said. CM: Govt settled site debate by setting up 3 nat'l law univs

Nagpur: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the Maharashtra govt under him took the historic decision of setting up three national law universities (NLUs)—at Mumbai, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—to settle the debate over its location nearly a decade ago. He pointed out that no state in the country has such an arrangement, Fadnavis highlighted the role played by then CJI Sharad Bobde as well as CJI Bhushan Gavai, then with the Nagpur bench of Bombay HC, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, and himself in chalking out a plan for bringing Maharashtra NLU to Nagpur. In a lighter vein, Fadnavis said he witnessed the growth of MNLU in different capacities—as CM, leader of opposition, deputy CM and then CM again. Fadnavis said it is equipped with all facilities for quality education. "The surrounding environment enhances the natural beauty of the campus. Funds have been allocated for the university in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and land has been selected for the Mumbai campus. In the coming years, all three universities will operate at full capacity," he said at the inauguration of the new administrative block of MNLU in Nagpur on Sunday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nuova CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID CUPRA Configura Auto Undo "Students [from the three universities] should achieve success on a global stage. Three significant pre-Independence laws have been amended; not merely renamed but Indianised. These changes will enable the use of new technology, speed up judicial processes and increase conviction rates," said Fadnavis. As India becomes the world's fourth largest economy, the CM said, swift resolution of commercial and investment-related cases is essential to attract investment. "India's Constitution is the finest, establishing an ideal as a sustainable value. To face the challenges of a changing world, students have no better platform than this university. Challenges like cybercrime and cyber breaches exist, but artificial intelligence offers opportunities. Students must take responsibility for bringing positive changes to the legal field through technology." Putting the onus on teachers, he said the university should now provide education in innovation, creativity and modern processes, alongside academics. "Govt will fully support all initiatives to make this university the best and self-sufficient." Acknowledging Fadnavis's efforts in establishing the university and its modern facilities, Union minister Gadkari said this will lead to the institution's qualitative growth. "Updating knowledge is crucial, and this university will set an excellent example. Knowledge is a great power that must be transformed into wealth. By leveraging modern technologies like digital advancements, the university should achieve commendable performance globally," he said. Gadkari praised the institution's innovative policy and design, highlighting its vision and the potential of its bright, upcoming students.

64.3% of population under social security net, up from 22% in 2016: Govt report

NEW DELHI: The population covered by social protection systems has increased from 22% in 2016 to 64.3% in 2025, indicating substantial expansion in social security coverage in the country, data released by the statistics ministry showed on Sunday. 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - National Indicator Framework Progress Report, 2025' provides data-driven evidence of India's progress toward SDGs and their associated targets. It is expected to assist policymakers in identifying key areas that need focused interventions and was released to mark Statistics Day. The report also showed that the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions has declined sharply from 24.85% in 2015-16 to 14.96% in 2019-21. SDG (No Poverty) seeks to eradicate poverty in all its forms and dimensions worldwide. At the global level, this goal has seven targets to measure the progress of nations in eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions everywhere. It said 13 indicators have been identified at the national level to measure and monitor the progress of these targets and data for all the indicators were available in the report. The indicators include population covered by social protection, senior citizens provided institutional assistance and access to basic services. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The target is by 2030, eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, currently measured as people living on less than $1.25 a day, and the data snapshot showed that the "national indicator is under development". Recent World Bank data stated that extreme poverty rate in India had declined from 27.1% in 2011-12 to 5.3% in 2022-23. The number of people living in extreme poverty also fell sharply during this period from 344.47 million in 2011-12 to 75.24 million in 2022-23. This would mean that nearly 269 million were lifted out of extreme poverty during this period. World Bank had said the international poverty line for low income countries has been raised to $3 per person per day from the existing $2.15 and for lower middle-income countries it was changed from $3.65 to $4.20 per day. The report cited latest household consumption expenditure data to show that there was a "clear move toward more equal spending and reduced income inequality" in urban and rural areas. It showed that the percentage of population using an improved drinking water source in rural areas has increased from 94.57% in 2015-16 to 99.62% in 2024-25, indicating significant progress towards universal safe water access in rural India. Among other data, it showed that the gross value added in agriculture per worker (in Rs) has increased from 61,247 in 2015-16 to 94,110 in 2024-25, indicating improved agricultural productivity and income per worker in the country. The total number of internet subscriptions (in millions) has increased from 302.36 in 2015 to 954.40 in 2024, showing a sharp rise in digital connectivity. The number of startups recognised under 'Startup India' increased from 453 in 2016 to 34,293 in 2024, showing strong growth in entrepreneurship. The SDG report serves as a vital resource for policymakers, enabling the identification of areas that require intensified and focused interventions. It showed "notable progress" has been made in several sectors, "significant challenges" continue to persist in others. United Nations General Assembly, in Sept 2015, adopted the document titled 'Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'. It outlines 17 SDGs and 169 associated targets. SDG came into force from Jan 1, 2016.
