AAA releases first gas prices for June in NNY

Yahoo02-06-2025
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – AAA of Western and Central New York released its first gas prices for the month of June on Monday morning.
According to the organization, the average cost of a gallon of gas in the City of Watertown dropped one cent from last week to $3.17 per gallon. The average cost is a composite of different prices from a multitude of gas stations from in and around the area.
Traffic Alert: Multiple projects set for Monday in Watertown
Here's a look at the average gas prices in and around the region:
Batavia – $3.14 (down one cent from last Monday)
Buffalo – $3.08 (no change from last Monday)
Elmira – $2.99 (no change from last Monday)
Ithaca – $3.05 (up one cent from last Monday)
Rochester – $3.11 (no change from last Monday)
Rome – $3.21 (down one cent from last Monday)
Syracuse – $3.05 (down one cent from last Monday)
Watertown – $3.17 (down one cent from last Monday)
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.14, down three cents from Monday, May 26. One year ago, the price was $3.54. The state average is $3.12, down a penny from last Monday. A year ago, the state average was $3.66.
For drivers who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.51, down one cent from last Monday. The NYS average is $3.87, on par with last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today's national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 36 cents.
With crude oil prices lingering in the low $60s per barrel, drivers are reaping the benefits at the pump. The national average is down about three cents from last week. While fuel prices are expected to remain on the lower side compared to last summer, weather is the wild card. The Atlantic hurricane season began Sunday, and NOAA predicts a 60-percent chance of an above-normal season. Storms along the Gulf Coast can affect oil refineries and disrupt fuel deliveries, leading to a temporary increase in gas prices.
According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased over the holiday weekend while total domestic gasoline supply increased as well. Gasoline production is also on the rise, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day.

Tesla Faltering Is GM's Gain, Especially for the Chevy Equinox EV

The latest car news, reviews, and features. The screaming deal that was the Chevrolet Bolt may be missing in action for the time being, but in its place, people finally seem to be noticing that the Equinox EV is a pretty solid value, too. I drove the most basic of base models earlier this year and came away very impressed. It appears I'm far from the only one, as GM has just reported that the all-electric Equinox didn't just have its best month of sales in July—it had the best month ever for a non-Tesla EV, with more than 8,500 units sold. It compounds an ever better month for EVs across the entire GM portfolio, which tallied around 19,000 vehicles. GM attributes part of this to the impending death of the $7,500 EV tax credit, which is coming fast on October 1. Whatever the reason, per GM's reporting, July represented a 115% year-over-year increase in the General's EV sales for the month, coming off the heels of a strong second quarter in which the company moved 146% more EVs than it did over the same period in 2024. If you're curious how the Equinox EV shook out versus its competition during the month of July, here's how the field looks. (Numbers in parentheses represent year-over-year change for each model.) Honda Prologue — 6,318 (+82.7%) Hyundai Ioniq 5 — 5,818 (+70.3%) Ford Mustang Mach-E — 5,308 (+15.6%) Subaru Solterra — 1,562 (+23.0%) Kia EV6 — 1,290 (-16.6%) Not all automakers have reported July figures, but we can get a vague idea of where the unnamed competitors might land based on their overall Q2 results. The Volkswagen ID.4 has been having a much tougher go of it through 2025, with VW moving just 1,992 examples of its electric SUV over the last quarter. The Nissan Ariya has been faring a little better, at 3,323 vehicles sold over the same period. Neither of those numbers includes July sales, so it's unclear how they're kicking off Q3. Additionally, Toyota reported 1,223 sales for the BZ4X this past June, a nearly 10% decrease for that nameplate versus the prior year, which also places it barely behind its badge-swapped cousin, the Subaru Solterra. The Chevrolet Equinox EV's interior, seen here in base 1LT trim, is really good for the price. And the seats are super comfortable. General Motors One of the key things to remember, though, is that the Equinox EV is cheaper than just about all of those alternatives, starting at $34,995. And for that low sum, you get a whole lot: a projected 319 miles of range, loads of space, and a comfortable and very respectable interior with the lone demerit being, you guessed it, a lack of CarPlay and Android Auto for GM's rather unwieldy infotainment system. Provided you can see past that, it's a great car and a great value, even before you tack on a second electric motor or any optional extras. With Tesla's slide over recent months, it's not a huge surprise to see Chevy's cheapest EV picking up the slack. Got a tip? Send it our way at tips@

Lucid Q2 earnings preview: Gravity SUV ramp, path to profitability big questions for investors

Pure-play EV maker Lucid (LCID) will report second quarter results after the bell as the company ramps up production of its Gravity SUV and hopes to assuage investors' fears over a lack of profitability. Meanwhile, Lucid stock is down over 20% year to date. Lucid is expected to report Q2 revenue of $262.4 million, per Bloomberg consensus estimates, higher than the $200.6 million reported a year ago. Lucid is expected to post an adjusted EPS loss of $0.22, with an adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) loss of $603.6 million. The company has had a busy 2025 so far, including the start of low-volume production of the Gravity SUV. Early last month, Lucid said it produced 3,863 vehicles and delivered 3,309 vehicles in the second quarter, with its total for the first half of the year hitting 6,075 vehicles produced and 6,418 vehicle deliveries. Read more: Live coverage of corporate earnings Lucid also announced in July that it would partner with Uber (UBER) to create a robotaxi service run by the ride-hailing company, which will purchase 20,000 Lucid EVs over the next five years. The company also added access to the Tesla (TSLA) Supercharger network for its vehicles, unlocking more than 23,000 new chargers for use. Lucid also initiated plans to perform a 10-to-one reverse stock split, which won't occur until later this year. In terms of guidance, Lucid said in the past that it expects 2025 production to hit 20,000 EVs, more than double the 9,029 it produced last year. The company also said it would launch its upcoming midsize-volume SUV in 2026, which is expected to help the company increase scale and bring it closer to profitability. Profitability is the big question mark for the company. Given its production and expected loss figures, Lucid is expected to post an adjusted EBITDA loss figure of around $161,000 per car produced. On the earnings call, analysts likely will be asking management about how the company intends to bridge itself to profitability in the near future. Rivian (RIVN), for example, has achieved gross profit in its operations. The expected loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit on Sept. 30 is also likely to put a dent in Lucid's sales. Lucid is able to receive the credit for all of its vehicles via a lease loophole known as the "commercial clean vehicle credit." Pras Subramanian is the lead auto reporter for Yahoo Finance. Revel Showcases Leadership in Grid-Optimized Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging at New Williamsburg Superhub, Scaling Impact on NYC's Energy Transition

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As electrification surges across New York City, Revel is showcasing leadership in grid-optimized electric vehicle (EV) charging. The Brooklyn-based electric mobility pioneer has officially activated SmartKit Demand Response technology at its new Supercharging Hub located at the historic Dime Building (275 South 5th Street, Williamsburg) — a state-of-the-art charging site that supports the city's clean energy transition while reducing emissions and grid strain. This marks Revel's fourth year participating in grid services across its various facilities. The Williamsburg facility represents the latest milestone in Revel's partnership with SmartKit ®, a virtual power plant (VPP) software developed by Logical Buildings. By strategically shifting the timing of vehicle charging sessions, Revel helps alleviate pressure on the grid during peak hours — when electricity is both dirtiest and most expensive — while generating revenue through utility-provided Demand Response incentives. As New York City accelerates toward a carbon-free grid under its ambitious climate goals, grid-interactive electric vehicle infrastructure will be critical. Charging intelligently, particularly during extreme weather and demand spikes, reduces emissions from peaker plants — which can emit twice as much CO₂ and 20 times more NOₓ than traditional power sources. Revel's grid-responsive operations were put to the test as New York City kicked off the 2025 Demand Response season with three consecutive curtailment events from June 23 to June 25, many lasting 10+ hours each. This sustained effort, which required Revel to dynamically schedule charging loads across its infrastructure, played a key role in supporting grid stability during an unprecedented strain on the electric system due to extreme heat with temperatures soaring in the triple digits on June 24. 'Our Williamsburg Superhub proves that EV infrastructure can be a grid asset, not a strain, by dynamically responding to grid stress signals,' said Paul Suhey, Revel COO & Co-Founder. 'As electricity demand rises with electrification and continued extreme heat events, smart charging plays a crucial role in helping New York build a resilient, decarbonized future.' The severity of the recent grid stress cannot be overstated. On Tuesday, June 24, the utility provider in New York and Westchester forecasted electricity usage to reach 100.71% of the system peak — a rare and urgent grid stressor. (By comparison, Demand Response events are typically triggered when demand hits just 92% of peak capacity). Additionally, the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) reported that peak electricity demand reached 31,857 megawatts (MW) during the three-day heat wave—the highest level recorded since 2016. 1 During these critical events Revel's actions provided immediate and measurable grid-positive relief. At its Williamsburg Superhub, which houses 15 public EV charging stalls capable of fully charging a vehicle in 20 minutes or less, Revel curtailed 250 kilowatts of load, contributing to avoided emissions from fossil fuel peaker plants. This targeted load reduction is expected to yield tens of thousands in grid services revenue — while delivering instantaneous and impactful resiliency for the local power grid. 'Revel is showing how electric mobility companies can actively participate in electric load management,' said David Klatt, President of Logical Buildings. 'By using SmartKit, Revel is turning electric load into flexible, responsive capacity — a replicable model for cities looking to decarbonize while electrifying. As cities decarbonize, electric use will rise—and this new electric demand needs to be grid-interactive.' The Revel–SmartKit ® partnership first launched in 2021 with the company's electric moped fleet and has now evolved into a powerful model for full-scale EV infrastructure. With the new Williamsburg Superhub online and integrated into New York's Demand Response programs, Revel is actively shaping the next phase of grid flexibility and reliability.
