Publisher Ubisoft - known for making Assassin's Creed - have given some users who made purchases a refund.
The game in question is XDefiant, which was set in the Ubisoft universe with map locations based on several of the firm's biggest titles.
It appears the decision to axe the title was because it failed to become profitable.
"Many free-to-play games take a long time to find their footing and become profitable," Mark Rubin, the game's executive producer said.
"It's a long journey that Ubisoft and the teams working on the game were prepared to make until very recently.
"But unfortunately, the journey became too much to sensibly continue."
He also tweeted in April that the whole team behind it were laid off.
New downloads and purchases were already blocked in December when news of XDefiant's closure was first announced.
Existing users have been able to continue playing on PlayStation, Xbox and PC but now the final nail in the coffin is here.
Ubisoft is switching off the servers on Tuesday ending the game forever.

Fans have shared their sadness on social media.
"Man this game was so fun, its sad to see it go so early, already have nostalgic feelings," one person wrote on Reddit.
Another commented: "Thank you xDefiant for bringing me back to fps-arcade shooters and actually having a fun game."
Ubisoft is offering a full refund to anyone who bought a Ultimate Founders Pack.

WHY ARE GAMES CLOSING DOWN?
By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
With most games online these days, tech companies need to maintain quite hefty servers to manage everything.
It's no cheap business to operate with millions of gamers across the world.
Naturally, people move on, leaving older games behind in the process.
There comes a point where it's no longer viable to continue offering server access so studios shut them down.
For some games that are entirely online this can render it completely useless.
But others may have a way for you to continue playing solo still.
You should usually see a prominent notification in the game warning you with instructions on what to do - provided you're still playing the game of course.

Popular Fire TV Stick app filled with free channels and movies is closing down – but some shows are moving to rival
A POPULAR Fire TV Stick app filled with free channels and movies is closing down - but some shows are moving to rival. The move is only a few weeks away from taking place. 1 Amazon Is Closing Down Their Popular App Amazon plans to shut down its stand-alone Freevee app in August, according to an in-app notice to users. The free, ad-supported streaming service is directing viewers to continue watching Freevee content on Prime Video. The notice stated: 'Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV. 'The Freevee app will be accessible until August 2025. Continue watching your favorite Free Originals and our library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free. "No subscription needed. Download Prime Video to get started and sign-in with your Amazon account.' The Move Was Expected Freevee content was already available through both apps and there had been murmurs earlier this year that the name could be axed after Prime introduced ads. Amazon said in a statement at the time that it had 'Decided to phase out Freevee branding. "There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members. "Including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST Channels — all available on Prime Video.' Instead of operating two separate services, the company is consolidating its streaming efforts around Prime Video. The Freevee App Launched in 2019, the Freevee app is available in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Austria. It is the company's free alternative to Prime Video, with classic and original shows including Judy Justice and the reboot of Aussie soap Neighbours. Popular original series also include Emmy-nominated reality comedy show Jury Duty, and crime show Bosch: Legacy. These shows are accessible on Prime Video under the 'Watch for Free' section. The service started out life under the IMDb brand five years ago, before becoming Freevee in April 2022. Although the app and brand is disappearing, the shows and movies are not.

Veteran Democrat Jack Lew expresses dismay at US deficit but blames Joe Biden too
Why you can trust Sky News Jack Lew is as decorated as they come when it comes to US economic leaders from the Democratic side of the aisle having served as President Obama's treasury secretary, and before that as his director of the office for management of the budget (OMB), a role he also held in the Clinton White House, when he was instrumental in the administration balancing the budget in the late 1990s - the last time that has happened. As President Trump's "one big, beautiful bill" makes its way through Congress, Mr Lew expressed dismay at the direction of the US deficit. "The simple rule that in good economic times you ought to come as close to paying your bills in the current sense as possible, certainly not running a deficit more than 3% of GDP, is the right rule." "Then in a bad time, you don't worry about nickels and dimes. You don't worry about a COVID response or a financial crisis response," Mr Lew said on The Master Investor Podcast with Wilfred Frost. "What you can't do is never worry about it because then the hole just gets deeper and deeper and deeper. And that's why we're now looking at a deficit that is going to grow to 6% of GDP with this bill. That's terrible." 2:24 Of course, the deficit, having leapt during COVID-19 at the end of the first Trump administration, did stay elevated through the recent Biden administration, when Lew served as ambassador to Israel, and he said he felt that Biden's Build Back Better Bill was not a great decision. "The reality, the political reality at the time when there was a bill that in my own view was too large, it gave cash to people who were already working at a time when there was a concern about inflation," Mr Lew said. "The political reality was you couldn't get Democrats and Republicans to vote for something without that. If you asked me at the time was the risk of the economy not recovering great enough to take that on, I would have said you can't afford not to come out of COVID strong. "So I didn't think it was a great decision, but I don't think there was an alternative other than doing nothing, and we've seen from experience that the US recovered stronger and better than other countries from COVID, and the inflation is running its way through the system." Need for compromise Giving insights on how to balance the budget, he spoke about the need for political compromise. "I've always been able to convince most of the wisdom and the benefit of the compromise. And I work for presidents who were able and willing to make that case. "As in everything else in life, relationships matter deeply. Having a counterpart that you know and that you've worked with in the past and knows that they can trust you and you can trust them gives you the freedom to explore ideas that might actually work, but if they were prematurely made public, would be potentially very painful to either or both sides. So you have to have a space that you can talk about middle grounds in that isn't totally off limits or poisoned." Ruefully, he added, "there's no bipartisan conversations going on". An economy 'doing ok' Despite being down beat about the Trump administration's economic policies he acknowledged that "the US economy is actually doing ok", and was reassured that despite a 10% fall in the dollar so far this year, which he puts down to "policy chaos in the US", the bond market appeared calm to him - for now at least. "The economy is not yet in a place where it's in distress." But, "I think we have to be careful. Right now, I think we're in a place where there's no alternative to the dollar, which is why you're not seeing more departure from the dollar", he added. "The renminbi is not in a place where it's fully convertible and market-controlled. There's not enough high-rated European debt to meaningfully replace the dollar. "Japan mostly is a domestic lending and borrowing market. So I have always been of the view that the fact that it's not there now does not mean we should take for granted that the US dominance will be perpetual."

Surprise Helldivers 2 Xbox release announced for next month
Xbox enthusiasts are in for a treat as Helldivers 2 is set to launch on the latest consoles, and it's due to arrive incredibly soon. Contrary to popular opinion, the PS5 does indeed have games. With PS Plus recently adding Diablo 4 and all the titles announced in the Capcom Spotlight showcase coming to the console, it's difficult to continue poking fun at Sony for its lack of action, even if it's been silent on the exclusive title front for a while. There's plenty to anticipate as a PlayStation user, and for a long time, a key component in its ecosystem was Helldivers 2, consistently releasing new updates and new disasters for fighters to quell in the name of liberty for Super Earth. That's not to suggest that the quality has declined, far from it, but its prominence as a leading shooter has somewhat faded. However, this could be about to change. As part of what appears to be Microsoft's attempt to make Xbox the most extensive gaming company in the universe, it has been astonishingly revealed in the Helldivers 2 Discord that Helldivers 2 will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, after previously being exclusive to PlayStation and PC. It's a massive deal, particularly with active cross-play, and players will need to brace themselves. Prepare for lift-off, Helldivers. Introducing All Out Gaming, a dedicated gaming brand providing the best gaming news, reviews, previews, interviews and more! Make sure you don't miss out on our latest high-quality videos on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, where we'll be posting our latest reviews, previews, interviews, and live streams! You can also subscribe to our free All Out Gaming newsletter service. Click here to be sent all the day's biggest stories. The Xbox blog has just spilled the beans: Helldivers 2 is set to land on Xbox Series X|S on Tuesday, August 26. Eager fans can secure their copy right now with pre-orders open for both the Standard and Super Citizen Editions. In a curious twist of fate, it's dropping the same day as Gears of War Reloaded. Game director Mikael Eriksson couldn't contain his excitement: "We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun." There's no word yet on an Xbox One version or a debut on Xbox Game Pass, suggesting these options aren't on the table at the moment. Nevertheless, the arrival of Helldivers 2 on Xbox is a significant leap, offering a warm welcome to all those potential fans who felt left out during its initial release. It's about time Xbox players got a taste of true freedom.
