New Dam Inaugurated in Dirfo Administrative Area

A new dam in the Dirfo administrative area, Central Region, constructed at a cost of over 15 million Nakfa with a capacity to hold more than 200 thousand cubic meters of water, was inaugurated on 22 July.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Fesehaye Haile, Governor of the Central Region; General Filipos Woldeyohannes, Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces; as well as senior commanders of the Central Command and Popular Force.
Eng. Abraham Daniel, head of agricultural infrastructure in the Central Region, stated that construction of the dam began in December 2023 and was completed in April 2025 with strong participation from the public and members of the Defense Forces.
Commending the initiative as a lasting solution to the potable water supply problem of the residents, Mr. Omar Ibrahim, administrator of the area, expressed readiness to conduct regular follow-up for the sustainability of the dam.
Noting that the project provided valuable hands-on experience, the Commander of the Defense Forces involved in the construction said it would significantly contribute to their future participation in similar national development projects.
Mr. Fesehaye Haile, for his part, noted that in the past two years, new dams have been constructed in the administrative areas of Gul-i, Temameo, Adi-Qe, and Arbe Robu, and that the Dirfo dam is a continuation of the same initiative.
Certificates of recognition were awarded to individuals and groups who contributed to the project.

President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Mrs. Linda Ramkalawan and Vice President Ahmed Afif, attended the foundation stone laying ceremony for the second and third phases of the Orchid Village affordable housing development at Grand Anse Mahé on Friday morning. The comprehensive housing initiative encompasses 80 affordable residential units, comprising 32 two-bedroom and 48 three-bedroom accommodations. Ascent Project Limited will execute the construction over a 24-month timeline,with the project generously funded by the United Arab Emirates government at an investment of approximately USD 7.3 million. President Ramkalawan, alongside His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi, Chargé d'Affaires of the UAE Embassy, and Minister for Land and Housing Billy Rangasamy, unveiled the commemorative plaque and laid the foundation stone, marking the project's commencement. The delegation also participated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony. In his address, Minister Rangasamy expressed profound gratitude to the UAE government for their substantial investment in Seychelles' housing sector. The Minister announced the concurrent development of regional sewage treatment plants to service multiple housing estates, including this project, aligning with the nation's comprehensive infrastructure agenda for sustainable development. His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi emphasized that the project "represents a significant milestone in the United Arab Emirates' commitment to providing quality housing for Seychellois citizens and fostering community growth. This grant transcends mere financial investment, it exemplifies the enduring friendship and solidarity between Seychelles and the UAE." President Ramkalawan conveyed his appreciation and satisfaction with the project's progress, noting it as one of three generous initiatives from the UAE government, alongside the English River rehabilitation project and the Anse Royale Sports Complex. "Let this village become a source of pride and cultivate a sense of community that enables our people to flourish," the President declared. National Assembly Member for Grand Anse Mahé District, Mr. Waven William, urged prospective beneficiaries to maintain consistent payment schedules to secure housing allocation. He encouraged current residents to preserve their properties through proper maintenance and foster harmonious neighborhood relations. William advocated for revised housing agreements reflecting contemporary realities, permitting homeowners to undertake repairs while preserving structural integrity, and called for proactive enforcement measures to maintain community standards. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister of Health Mrs. Peggy Vidot, Principal Secretaries, Chief Executive Officers, National Assembly members, Grand Anse Mahé District Administrator Mrs. Retania Leon, Ministry of Land and Housing personnel, district residents, and distinguished guests. President Donald Trump has sent a letter to President Isaias Afwerki, on 30 July this week, underlining that he is 'reversing the negative, harmful damage of the Biden Administration around the globe'. In his message that also expressed appreciation for President Isaias' letter of congratulations of November last year for his election as the 47th President of the United States. President Trump referred to his Administration's readiness to re-establish a respectful and productive national relationship between the US and Eritrea 'based on honesty, respect, and opportunities to improve peace and prosperity across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea'. Eritrea: Training for Heads of Ministry of Education Branch in Anseba Region

The Ministry of Education branch in the Anseba Region, in collaboration with partners, has provided training to heads of education regional office and supervisors, school directors, heads of sub-zonal education offices, and other officials. The training, conducted from 22 to 28 July in Keren, covered administration and leadership, student-centered teaching methodology, conflict resolution, reporting and statistics, as well as other topics related to the teaching-learning process. Mr. Kiflai Andemicael, head of the education office in the region, stated that the objective of the training was to identify strengths and challenges, and to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of students. Ambassador Abdella Musa, Governor of the region, emphasized the significance of the training in ensuring quality education and called for its sustainability. In the same vein, Brig. Gen. Eyob Fesehaye (Halibai), Commander of the Western Command of the Eritrean Defense Forces, conducted a seminar for the training participants under the theme 'The Compensation of a Committed Teacher is the Satisfaction of Conscience.' Noting that teachers and teaching are key pillars of resilience, Brig. Gen. Eyob underscored that education is the only path to development and called on teachers to properly discharge the heavy responsibility bestowed upon them.
