Former sheep shearing champion named as woman (64) killed in Kerry faming accident
Tributes are being paid to a multiple All-Ireland sheep shearing champion who was killed in a farming accident in County Kerry on Tuesday.
She has been named locally as Breda Lynch (64) from Bonane, Kenmare, Co. Kerry lost her life following a fatal farm accident in Kerry. The fatal work-place accident occurred in Bonane, yesterday evening, June 17 at 5pm.
Ms Lynch was an All-Ireland sheep shearing champion on several occasions. Speaking at an event in 2019 about her career she said she wasn't sure how many All-Irelands she had won. She said: 'I definitely have 12 but it could be 14.'

She added: 'I didn't get a trophy every year I won so I don't actually know how many I have won.'
She added: 'I won the All-Ireland Ladies Championship on Sunday with the electric shears, and I had only gone up as a spectator. I've been ill for a few years, and at one point I thought I'd never compete again. It was a spur of the moment thing. I also got a certificate for 'Outstanding Service to the Sheep-Shearing Industry'.
Paying tribute local Councillor Dan McCarthy said: 'There is huge shock in the area at the passing Breda. She was very well-known in this area and beyond.'
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochána confirmed they attended the accident and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a work-related incident that occurred in Bonane, Kenmare, Co. Kerry on Tuesday June 17, 2025 at approximately 5pm.'
Gardaí said an examination of the scene was conducted. The Coroner for Kerry has been notified and a file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and are investigating the matter. The HSA have also confirmed an investigation is underway. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae says he has decided to make a formal complaint after allegedly being pushed by a garda before Sunday's All-Ireland final. The incident started when hundreds of Kerry fans were lining the street ahead of the Croke Park showdown with Donegal for Sam Maguire - and face off their county would later win. He acknowledged the cheers and waved to the fans before walking a few yards. He stopped to wave to fans again, before turning to walk down the street - which is when the incident with the garda happened. The two men walk close to each other and then the garda appears to stick out a hand to move the deputy out of his way. Healy-Rae to make complaint against garda over 'shoving' incident on All-Ireland final day
Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae has said he will make a complaint against a garda after an alleged shoving incident ahead of the All-Ireland football final. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in Dublin City, where Kerry and Donegal fans were gathered ahead of the All-Ireland football final in Croke Park. Multiple videos, circulating on social media, shows Mr Healy-Rae walking through a large crowd of Kerry supporters near Brannigans pub. In the videos, Mr Healy-Rae raises his arms as he walks through the crowd to cheers from Kerry supporters, before a garda appears to shove him away. Mr Healy-Rae turns to talk with the garda, before walking away while the crowd boos. Mr Healy Rae said: I don't know what happened. I was walking here, minding my own business and the next thing this garda shoved me and he shouldered me. The TD also said that the garda 'effed and blinded' at him during the alleged incident. Asked if he planned on making a complaint against the garda, Mr Healy-Rae sad: 'I will, I will.' 'He needs to be brought to account for it,' Mr Healy-Rae said. However, Mr Healy-Rae said he has 'fierce respect' for the gardaí and they have a 'tough job'. 'It was just a very, very isolated incident.' He added the garda involved must have 'some spite for me'. THE GAA has paid a poignant tribute to a mum and two children who were killed in Co Fermanagh this week.
