Steel businessman, wife, daughter & driver killed in car crash on Jhansi-Kanpur highway
The businessman's father and three children were seriously injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment.
The accident occurred when an XUV700 vehicle, travelling at an estimated speed of 80–90 km/h, lost control and rammed into a divider before overturning.
The family was returning to Maharashtra after celebrating Bakrid in their hometown Siddharthnagar.
The deceased have been identified as Ubaidur Rahman (43), a Maharashtra-based steel businessman, his wife Ashma (40), their daughter Usna Parveen (15), and their driver Amir (45).
According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that the vehicle was crushed, leaving all eight occupants trapped inside. Local residents, alerted by the cries for help, rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the family.
Driver Amir was found critically wedged between the steering wheel and bonnet. Despite frantic efforts and the arrival of a JCB machine to break open the car, Amir succumbed after nearly an hour of being trapped.
Meanwhile, the injured — Ubaidur's father Shahbuddin (70), sons Abdullah Bahadur Rahman (10) and Aneedur Rahman (8), and daughter Eshya (6) — were rushed to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC). Their condition is stated to be serious but stable.
The bodies of the deceased were kept at the hospital morgue awaiting the arrival of family members.
SP, Jhansi, BBGTS Murthy, said that preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by driver's fatigue.
Ubaidur's friend Mahbulla, who was travelling in a separate vehicle towards Mumbai, said, "I was ahead of them in my car. I suspect the driver might have dozed off. I've informed the family — they're on their way."

According to Gopalakrishnan's complaint, the couple even coerced him into signing two cheques of Rs 10 crore each in their names. The woman had been employed at his firm but had recently resigned. Following her resignation, the couple allegedly plotted to fabricate a false case and began threatening the businessman, demanding Rs 30 crore. They warned that if he failed to pay, she would accuse him of being in an extramarital relationship with her and of sexually assaulting her. Based on Gopalakrishnan's complaint, the couple was arrested on July 30. However, they were granted bail later the same day. The latest development came on Tuesday, when the Kochi police registered a case against Gopalakrishnan following the woman's complaint, accusing him of sexual harassment and issuing threats. In her complaint, she stated that it was only after she expressed her intention to file a complaint against Gopalakrishnan with the internal complaints committee of the IT firm that he allegedly framed them in a false honey trap case. With a case now registered against Gopalakrishnan, alongside the ongoing investigation into the couple, the two separate probe teams are reportedly considering a coordinated approach to move the investigations forward.

In the one year since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the country's interim ruler, Bangladesh has descended into a state of lawlessness helmed by Islamists, with mob justice becoming the norm. Amid cyclic attacks on the country's religious minorities, particularly Hindus, mob violence has increasingly become the norm in Bangladesh that has not even spared the country's police personnel. In the past year, Hindus have been attacked in their houses, their houses have been burnt, and their temples have been attacked. Instead of making the protection of minorities' protection a priority, Yunus has presided over the state patronage of extremists, which has included acts like the release of jihadist leaders from jail. Most lynching victims were from Hasina's party Of those lynched, around 70 per cent of victims were from Hasina's BAL, local human rights bodies have said. These victims have largely been from Hindu and Ahmadiya Muslim communities, which have been a favourite target of Islamists in the country. The regime has not yet announced a date for elections and continues to run the country without any mandate from the people. Powai businessman duped of Rs 30 lakh in betel nut trade ‘scam'; police launch search for suspects
A Powai-based businessman was allegedly duped of Rs 30 lakh by three men who promised to supply betel nuts to him at a price lower than the market rate, assuring huge profits. The Powai police said they have launched a manhunt for three men, identified as R Gupta, Manoj Patel, and Mahendra Shah alias Ramji Samaliya, after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed Monday. 'We have registered the case and are actively searching for the accused,' said Senior Inspector Madhukar Sanap of Airport Police Station. According to the police, the complainant, Prakash Shukla, 49, was introduced to one Ramkishan Pandey, a resident of Thane, by a relative. Pandey, in turn, introduced him to Gupta, who claimed to be an exporter of betel nuts. Gupta was accompanied by two associates, Patel and Samaliya, who were presented as fellow exporters from Gujarat. 'Gupta resides in Navi Mumbai, while Patel and Samaliya are based in Gujarat and frequently travel to Mumbai for business,' said a police officer. The police said Shukla's relative allegedly vouched for the three men's credibility, convincing him that the transaction would be highly profitable. Following several phone conversations, a meeting was scheduled on December 26 at a five-star hotel in Vile Parle to create an illusion of credibility, said the police. During the meeting, the suspects offered to sell 26 tons of betel nut at Rs 250 per kilogram, worth Rs 1.30 crore. They demanded an advance of Rs 30 lakh in cash, assuring that the remaining amount could be paid via cheque or RTGS after delivery. Shukla was not carrying cash at the time, so he arranged the payment within a few hours, and handed over Rs 30 lakh to the suspects later that evening. Encouraged by the deal, the police said, Shukla contacted a relative in Delhi who also showed interest in purchasing 60 tons of betel nuts. However, when Shukla followed up with the suspects regarding the delivery, they initially assured that the consignment would be delivered by December 31. Subsequently, the suspects stopped answering calls — their phone numbers were first found switched off and later out of service, according to the complaint. Shukla approached the Airport Police Station after he realised he had been duped, and submitted a written complaint. The police verified the facts and registered a case against Gupta and two others under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
