NEED TO KNOW Simone Biles has won Best Athlete: Women's Sports at the 2025 ESPYs Biles also won the 2025 ESPY for Best Championship Performance earlier in the night The awards come after Biles won three gold medals and a silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in ParisSimone Biles is a seven-time ESPY Award winner! Biles, 28, was named the Best Athlete: Women's Sports at the 2025 ESPY Awards on Wednesday, July 16 at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. 'Thank you — again,' Biles said with a smile after being presented the award by actress Alison Brie The U.S. gymnast then thanked ESPN for highlighting women's sports more often in recent years, before cutting her speech short. It was Biles' second time winning the award for best female athlete, having last done so in 2017. Overall, the U.S. gymnast has won seven ESPY Awards throughout her decorated career. Earlier in the night, Biles said she was "honored" to receive the ESPY for Best Championship Performance. 'The recognition means more than you guys know," Biles told the audience. "I would like to thank the people who have stood with me on this journey — my teammates, my competitors, my coaches, family and fans who have lifted me up every step of the way. I wouldn't be standing here without all of you.' Biles added: 'Having a strong support system that understands your dreams, who are willing to show up for you, not just when you're winning, but when you're struggling, too, is really important,' Biles said. 'My sincere gratitude, appreciation and love to all of you who have stood with me on this magical journey, all the highs, lows, twists and turns along the way.' The awards followed Biles' triumphant return to the Olympics last summer. In Paris, the gymnast medaled four times, winning three gold medals in vault, all-around and team competition, while also earning a silver medal in the floor routine. Often recognized as the greatest gymnast of all time, Biles has five moves named after her and is the most decorated gymnast of all time. The ESPY Awards are airing live on ABC. Messi's multi-goal streak ends as Cincinnati beats Miami 3-0

Lionel Messi's Major League Soccer-record streak of multi-goal games ended at five on Wednesday as his Inter Miami squad was blanked 3-0 at FC Cincinnati. The 38-year-old Argentine star forward had scored a brace, two goals, in five consecutive matches for Miami, giving him 16 goals on the season as Inter managed four wins and a draw in the run. Not since 2012 when he played for Barcelona had Messi netted a brace or more in five consecutive matches. But Cincinnati kept Miami to only two shots on goal in the contest. US 20-year-old midfielder Gerardo Valenzuela opened the scoring for Cincinnati in the 16th minute. Brazilian striker Evander followed with a goal in the 50th minute and struck again in the 70th to provide all the scoring the hosts needed. Miami fell to 11-4 with five drawn for 38 points, fifth in the Eastern Conference and eight points adrift of first-place Philadelphia, the overall MLS leader which beat Montreal to stay one point ahead of Cincinnati in the overall MLS standings. Inter Miami has three games in hand on both clubs but would need to win them all to overtake their rivals for the overall league lead. js/aks

Will Reilly scores first career goal as Atlanta United rallies in stoppage time to tie Fire 2-2

ATLANTA (AP) — Will Reilly scored his first career goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time after subbing into the match in the second half to rally Atlanta United to a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night. Reilly, a 22-year-old midfielder, made his seventh career appearance when he replaced Tristan Muyumba in the 71st minute. He scored the equalizer unassisted with a left-footed shot off a corner kick from Alexey Miranchuk. Philip Zinckernagel found the net in the second minute to give the Fire an early lead with his 10th goal in his first season in the league. Zinckernagel scored off his own corner kick when it bounced untouched into the top right corner of the net. Zinckernagel has a goal contribution in nine straight road matches — one off the league record set by Josef Martínez. Atlanta United evened the score in the 56th minute on Miranchuk's second goal with an assist from Miguel Almirón — his third. Maren Haile-Selassie scored for the second time this season to give Chicago a 2-1 lead in the 79th minute. Zinckernagel notched his ninth assist and defender Andrew Gutman earned his eighth. Gutman had one assist in 117 appearances prior to this season. Brad Guzan finished with seven saves for Atlanta United (4-10-8). Chris Brady saved two shots for the Fire (8-9-5). Chicago had lost all seven of its previous trips to Atlanta. The Fire travel to play CF Montreal on Saturday. Atlanta United will host Charlotte FC on Saturday. ___ AP soccer:
