Next hearing on SAD Bikram Majithia's bail plea in alleged drug case scheduled for July 8
According to the Prosecutor, the bail application that was submitted on Thursday contained certain errors, following which the court directed that the application be filed again.
On Wednesday, tensions escalated in Punjab after police detained several Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supporters staging a protest against the arrest of senior party leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
The protest took place near the Mohali court, where Majithia is scheduled to be produced following the completion of his Vigilance Bureau remand.
As security was tightened around the court complex, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal claimed that he himself was stopped and detained by police while en route to a gurdwara in Mohali. The incident prompted strong criticism from the former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.
'Kejriwal has taken over Punjab. The democratic rights of the people of Punjab have ended. He has come and sat here as a supreme leader to raise Rs 10,000 crore from Punjab. He has imposed emergency in the state,' said Sukhbir Singh Badal, accusing former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of running Punjab by proxy and suppressing opposition voices.
Majithia, a former minister and influential leader within the SAD, was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with an alleged corruption case.
Majithia was sent to seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on June 26 in connection with a money laundering case linked to drugs.
Speaking to ANI, the Public Prosecutor Advocate Ferry Sofat said, 'Bikram Singh Majithia's income of Rs 540 crore remains undisclosed, and he could not mention any details about it...'
He informed the court that there were large and unexplained cash deposits made by Saraya Industries, a company operated by Majithia's family since the 1950s. (ANI)

479 farmers died by suicide in 2 months in Maharashtra, says state minister
A total of 479 farmer suicides were reported in Maharashtra in just two months, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav informed the state Legislative Assembly on to questions from MLAs including Rohit Pawar, Jitendra Awhad, and Vijay Wadettiwar, Jadhav said that 250 suicides occurred in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions in March 2025. In April 2025, the state recorded 229 cases of farmer of the 250 cases reported in March, officials found 102 to be eligible for compensation under government norms, while 62 were declared ineligible. Another 86 cases are still under investigation. Of the 102 eligible cases, the government has provided financial assistance in 77 so far. In the April cases, authorities identified 74 as eligible and 31 as ineligible for compensation. The process to extend aid in the remaining cases is said that the state government provides Rs 1 lakh as assistance to the legal heirs of farmers who die by suicide. 'If any person in the family of the deceased person is holding agricultural land, then the person is considered a farmer. After a suicide is reported, the family is visited by a district level officer. The necessary inquiry is conducted by a committee and after the complete proposal is made by the district level committee, the eligible and ineligible decision is taken, and immediate assistance is provided,' he said in a written also noted that the Relief and Rehabilitation Department is providing support in cases of crop damage due to natural highlighted ongoing efforts to prevent farmer suicides, including financial support schemes and infrastructure improvements. 'A total of Rs 12,000 is being provided annually through the Agriculture Department under the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and Rs 6,000 under the Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi. Dhanbad: If your mobile phone is lost or stolen, you might initially take it casually thinking the device was ageing and you need to buy a new one, or at most, mourn its loss. However, a far bigger risk could be lurking — you could lose access to your social media accounts, get locked out of your bank accounts, your funds could be cleaned out and the culprits could even blackmail you or target you with identity theft . This is because your phone is a device where you store everything about yourself, right from your birth certificate to Aadhaar cards, PAN cards to bank details and from intimate photos and videos to other personal details. In an alarming new trend, mobile phone thieves have joined hands with cybercriminals in Dhanbad and once a mobile phone reached their hands, it didn't take long for them to hack into it and get hold of the personal details. Currently, these criminals are targeting bank details to siphon off the money from the victims' accounts. Recently, three such incidents have surfaced, highlighting the growing menace. A retired principal of Sindri College, Kamta Singh, lost his mobile phone while buying vegetables in a local market. "I searched for the phone for over an hour but in vain. I then complained with police and got the SIM card reissued. But the next day, when I inserted the SIM into a new handset, I was shocked to see that Rs 1.25 lakh had been withdrawn from my bank account," a teary-eyed Singh rued. In another case, Pappu Gupta, a contract driver with the Saraidhela police station, lost his phone while shopping at the Steel Gate Market. He acted swiftly after losing the phone and blocked the number and informed his bank. Yet, he was stunned to learn that over Rs 2 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn through three separate transactions. "The fraudsters also used my UPI credentials to make purchases," he lamented. Similarly, Priyanka Rai, a private school teacher, lost her phone and she promptly blocked the SIM card. But even before she could complete the process, the cybercriminals had already drained Rs 10,000 from her account. "I had limited funds in my account, so the loss was comparatively smaller, but the experience was deeply disturbing," she said. Saraidhela police station officer-in-charge Nutan Modi confirmed receiving a complaint from the retired principal Kamta Singh and said an FIR will be lodged once the necessary banking documents are provided to them. "We need the bank statement for further action," she said. Meanwhile, cyber police DSP Sanjiv Kumar warned the public to be cautious, especially with phones used for banking. "Phones with UPI access are easy targets for cybercriminals. We are monitoring this emerging trend and urge citizens to stay alert," he said, adding that any phone loss should be promptly reported without wasting time.
