Hibs Women invited to pre-season tour in USA
After positive discussions between the two clubs, the 2024/25 Scottish Women's Premier League champions were delighted to be invited to a week-long warm-weather training camp in Florida by Sporting JAX, forming a beneficial working relationship with the newly-formed team.
The ream will fly out to Florida on Sunday 27 July before returning home on Sunday 3 August, with a pre-season friendly arranged versus Sporting JAX during the intensive pre-season trip.
The exhibition match will be held at the 10,000-capacity Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida on Saturday 2 August, 2025, and will kick-off at 7pm ET (12am midnight, UK time).
Presented by Visit Jacksonville, the game will be dedicated to visionary late Hibernian FC chairman Ronald J Gordon, who was instrumental to both clubs involved in the fixture.
This match will give Grant Scott's title-winning side an opportunity to test themselves against strong opposition ahead of the 2025/26 campaign as the girls seek to defend their league champions status.
Founded in 2023, Sporting JAX are heading into their inaugural season and will play in the ultra-competitive Gainbridge Super League – the topflight of US women's football.
The Florida club are managed by English manager Stacey Balaam and are building a strong squad ahead of their first-ever league campaign, which begins on Saturday 23 August, with former Rangers FC manager Mark Warburton the club's Head of Soccer and Sporting Director.
'Hosting Hibernian FC Women is especially meaningful as we pay tribute to the late Ron Gordon, a beloved friend, mentor and one of our founding investors,' said Steve Livingstone, President and CEO of Sporting JAX.
'Ron's leadership revitalized Hibs and helped bring Sporting JAX to life. This match is dedicated to him and the Gordon family.'

Brendan Rodgers turns Robbie Savage consultant as Celtic boss advice before taking Forest Green Rovers job revealed
The ex Premier League star is the new boss of the ambitious National League side Robbie Savage has revealed he sounded out Brendan Rodgers and Martin O'Neill before accepting the job at Forest Green Rovers. The former Wales international has taken charge of the National League side after four years with Macclesfield Town. After serving as a board member with the English minnows, Savage was appointed as manager last year and led the club to the Northern Premier League title last season to take them up to the sixth tier. But the confident Welshman has now stepped up a division to take up the reins at Forest Green, who missed out on promotion back to the EFL last month with a defeat to Southend United in the play-off semi final. And the 50-year-old says he consulted the two Celtic heroes before saying yes to the ambitious Gloucestershire, having enjoyed success as a player under O'Neill at Leicester City, where the Foxes won the League Cup back in 2000. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Fortunately for me I have worked with some unbelievable people. "I spoke to Martin O'Neill yesterday who is more than willing to come down, sit with me and have a coffee. "I've spoke to Brendan Rodgers and Sean Dyche, real football people. As soon as this opportunity came about they said 'it's an unbelievable opportunity for you. "As a manager I have tried to take little snippets from each one but I think I am a good motivator, a good man-manager and I believe I know how to get the best out of a collective and more importantly an individual. "I have been in their shoes numerous times and have suffered disappointments and experienced highs and lows. "If I can take little things from everybody, I think we'll do well." Savage's relationship with Brendan Rodgers is perhaps a result of his backing for the Irishman during his sticky patch in charge of Leicester. Rodgers faced calls for the sack in some quarters following a heavy 4-1 FA Cup defeat to then Championship side Nottingham Forest in February 2022, having won the competition the year before. Leicester had failed to get past the group stages of the Europa League that season but manage to reach the last four of the Conference League after dropping into the third tier competition. But following the loss to Forest, Savage came out in defence of the ex Liverpool boss, branding calls for him to get the boot as 'nonsense'. He told BT Sport: It's absolute nonsense, isn't it? Two fifth placed finishes, an FA Cup victory, rebuilding squads, the recruitment - surely he has credit in the bank for what he has achieved at Leicester. "It's one of the best Premier League appointments in recent years, one of them, for what he's done with that side. "He needs his best players on the pitch on a regular basis to compete. To compete for Champions League, Leicester City - they were in League One not so long ago. He's done amazing." Rodgers' ultimately left the Foxes by mutual consent in April 2023 shortly before their relegation from the Premier League, sealing his return to Celtic two and a half months later.

Scots golf stars Open joy after Lee Westwood helps secure winning places at Royal Portrush
Tartan duo Connor Graham and Daniel Young are heading to 153rd Championship Scots amateur Connor Graham reckons starring with Lee Westwood helped him seal a special moment and make The Open. And fellow tartan star Daniel Young insists it's a big step in his career to get a tee-time at the 153rd Championship after chasing the English star home. LIV star Westwood won the Dundonald qualifier, but there was delight for two home stars as they also booked tickets to join compatriots Bob MacIntyre and Cameron Adam at Royal Portrush. Graham came through a dramatic play-off against countryman Paul O'Hara with a birdie on the first hole of the shootout sealing the deal. The 18-year-old played alongside Westwood and fellow Ryder Cup star Jamie Donaldson during the regulation 36-holes and believes coping with that scenario was a big boost when it came to the crunch in extra-time The teenager said: 'It feels pretty good and I am delighted. It was pretty nervy in the play-off but, thankfully, I got the job done. There were big crowds following us and I managed to deal with the pressure I was under pretty good and that definitely helped me in the play-off. "To be able to get into an event like The Open and be able to compete there would definitely be a big step in my career. Getting there will be very special.' As Graham and O'Hara scrapped, Young was safely planning his trip to Portrush as he surged through finishing just a shot behind Westwood at six-under. "The 33-year-old Perthshire native took splendid recent form on the Hotel Planner Tour into the Ayrshire test and came through with flying colours. Young said: 'I played so, so good and just struggled on the greens all day to be fair. They were a bit slower, a bit seedy. I just couldn't struggle to get the ball in the hole. "But my long game was probably as good as it's been. I've driven it great all year, but yeah, it was very good. 'It sounds great [going to Portrush]. I'm looking forward to it now. It'll be a nice couple of weeks in the lead-up to it now. 'I've been playing great the last month. I finally had a nice result to back it up and then followed it up last week with another good week. "And obviously, I came close [to qualifying] last year. I've played well around here before, so I feel quite comfortable on the golf course. 'I know the scoring never gets probably as low as people might think. "It's a tricky enough course and they set up a few tricky enough pins, so you've just got to be pretty patient like I was this morning when I didn't probably have my best stuff. And then I strung together just a lovely round this afternoon. 'Everybody's grinding. You can see probably the relief and the disappointment off people's faces at every event, every week. But yes, it's a big, big step in my career. |I've got a big second half of the year coming up and, hopefully, I'll start with a good week at Portrush.'

Liverpool sent Harvey Elliott message as the club set price for midfielder
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott shone for the England U21s this summer (Picture: Getty) Micah Richards says there is 'not a chance' he would sell Harvey Elliott if he was in Liverpool's position following the midfielder's heroics for England at this summer's European Under-21 Championship. Elliott was named Player of the Tournament as England successfully defended their title from 2023, with the 22-year-old Liverpool man scoring five goals across the Young Lions' triumphant campaign. It was Elliott's early strike that opened the scoring in Saturday's dramatic final as Lee Carsley's men recovered from an almighty second-half scare to come away 3-2 victors over Germany in Bratislava. But while Elliott's recent form at international level cannot be questioned, the youngster has had to be patient for regular first-team opportunities with Arne Slot's Liverpool. Across the entirety of the Reds' title-winning campaign, Elliott was limited to a total of just two starts in the Premier League – and there have been some calls for the ex-Fulham man to leave and secure game-time elsewhere. According to talkSPORT, the English champions would be prepared to let Elliott depart should they receive an offer in the region of £40million for his services this summer. It's understood RB Leipzig and Newcastle United are keeping close tabs on Elliott's situation, with the two clubs scouring the market for midfield reinforcements in preparation for next season. Elliott found the net in the fifth minute of England's win over Germany (Picture: Getty) Elliott made just two league starts for Liverpool last season (Picture: Getty) 'If I'm Liverpool, I'm not selling him. Not one bit! I'm not selling him!' former Manchester City and England defender Richards said of Elliott on The Rest Is Football. 'It's similar to the Cole Palmer situation when he was at Manchester City. Okay, you've got Phil Foden, you've got Kevin De Bruyne at the time and other young players coming through… 'But I just think, if he [Elliott] could get a good Premier League team on loan for the season [then he should stay at Liverpool]. Richards believes Elliott would be the perfect long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah when the Egyptian brings an end to his stay at Anfield. 'Salah signed a two-year deal and a year from now he might not be the same player that we've been used to over the years,' Richards added. 'Elliott can play that position so well and I would just wait. 'I wouldn't get rid of him now, not a chance.' Liverpool should keep hold of Elliott, says Richards (Picture: Getty) Host Gary Lineker, meanwhile, suggested there would be no shortage of potential suitors should Liverpool put Elliott up for sale this summer. 'It's an interesting decision for him because they've obviously brought other players in, Florian Wirtz has come in who is another forward/midfield player,' the ex-England striker said. 'What a tournament he had. If it's not going to happen for him at Liverpool, I think there would be a host of clubs that would be keen to sign him.' Speaking to Channel 4 after England's defeat of Germany, Elliott said he needed to 'show it at club level' to give himself a shot of a call-up to Thomas Tuchel's senior squad. 'It's never going to be easy because of the talent that is in the team… world-class players from top to bottom,' he said. 'It's about me working hard, trying to show it at club level and hopefully getting the opportunity. 'We're thankful for him [Tuchel] coming out here and hopefully we put on a show and who knows? It's one of those, you just need to wait and see.' Should Elliott leave Liverpool this summer? Yes No For more stories like this, check our sport page.
