Welsh Hollyoaks and Netflix star's lifesaving operation after migraine issue
Craig Russell had started forgetting things and began suffering from terrible migraines before scans revealed he had a benign tumour in his brain which was the size of a lime and had been there for over a decade

A Welsh actor said he nearly died after a large tumour grew undetected for more than a decade inside his brain.
Craig Russell, known for his roles in TV shows such as Hollyoaks and Netflix's Queen Cleopatra, has shared his near-death experience which resulted in him having a deformed skull.
Craig, 48, from Cwmtwrch in the Swansea Valleys and now living in Falmouth in Cornwall with his wife Kate, 40, and their two sons Teddy, 10 and Henry, seven, said he first noticed there might be a problem when he began forgetting things and then had migraines in September 2022. He then described a harrowing incident where a "whooshing" came from the back of his head when he gave a scream during filming for 2024 film Edge of Summer which he said "nearly caused me to collapse".
By January 2023, grappling with deteriorating health, Craig admitted he was "all over the place" until Kate urged him to book an appointment with his GP. During the consultation he recalled how the doctor realised Craig was losing vision in his left eye and swiftly arranged a CT scan.
Craig's head after surgery which removed the tumour which was the size of a compressed lime

Hours after the scan Craig's GP telephoned with unsettling news that they had "found something" within the imagery, prompting an urgent referral for additional MRI examinations towards the end of February 2023.
The scans revealed he had a substantial benign tumour within his cranium comparable in dimensions to a compressed lime.
Craig said: "It stopped me in my tracks. I never thought it would happen to me." Medics believed, given the size of the tumour, it had probably been developing inside his brain without him knowing for around 15 years. "The tumour got so big it pushed my skull up and out. It deformed the back of my head," he explained.
Benign brain tumours can be dangerous even though they are not cancerous because they can still cause serious problems by pressing on and damaging the brain. So Craig underwent a risky operation in March 2023 to remove the mass which could have resulted in blindness or death.
Part of his damaged skull was removed and rebuilt using a plastic-concrete mix held in place by bolts and staples in his scalp. Craig underwent a critical seven-hour surgery at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where surgeons removed a section of his skull affected by the tumour.
Craig thanked his family for supporting him through a very difficult period in his life
Craig recalled: "My surgeon explained my tumour had been growing there for about 15 years and it appeared to have enveloped all the important stuff I needed to survive. There was a very real chance I wouldn't survive the operation because one little mistake and that's it – or at best I could come out blind or have a stroke."
Craig, who praised his family and particularly his wife for her "unwavering support", recovered successfully and has since become an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research and a patron for children's charity Joseph's Smile.
His most recent film, Protein, which premiered on June 13 this year featuring him in the role of a serial killer with a penchant for cannibalism, was a decade-long project. At one point the actor said it seemed uncertain whether he would survive to witness its release.
"Someone asked me if I thought I'd ever see the film finished, which was a sobering idea as I nearly died before it came out," he said. "I'm so glad I was there to see it – I don't know if you can watch movies from the afterlife so I just have a lot of pride for everyone involved. I feel lucky to have had a brain tumour in a way because I've learnt so much about life, people, and resilience."
Despite facing post-operative challenges with swelling and fluid build-up around his brain Craig revealed he has fully recovered, attributing his improvement to weight-lifting which encouraged the drainage of fluid. "My head still hurts occasionally but I'm now back to full health," he said.
Craig is now an ambassador for the Brain Tumour Charity and called for more funding for research when he appeared in parliament last year
He has advocated for increased government funding towards brain tumour research and he has taken on the role of an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research. Advancements in treating meningiomas, the kind of brain tumour Craig endured, may be coming as researchers from the University of Plymouth have pinpointed a significant protein influencing their growth, reports Brain Tumour Research.
By targeting the protein scientists managed to decelerate or stop the proliferation of tumour cells in lab environments – a development that Craig described as "a big step forward". Craig's recent film, Protein, which is showing in select cinemas, was particularly poignant for him given the uncertainty over whether he would live to see its premiere.
"The fact all that work we did is now being recognised favourably, especially by Mark Kermode, makes me so proud, so happy, and so relieved," he added. "If I had truly listened to my body this would have all been done and dusted years ago – so if you think you've got something wrong please just go and see your doctor."

Truth about Emma Raducanu boyfriend now emerges as new man turns up after Alcaraz hotel visit
Truth about Emma Raducanu boyfriend now emerges as new man turns up after Alcaraz hotel visit The tennis star's love life has been in the spotlight at Wimbledon Raducanu was seen watching Alcaraz in action at Queen's last month All eyes will be on Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon on Friday as she takes on top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the women's singles at SW19. The 22-year-old has impressed in the opening two rounds of this year's tournament, easing past Welsh teenager Mimi Xu with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in her first match before beating Marketa Vondrousova by the same scoreline in round two. However, the biggest challenge of her campaign so far awaits on Centre Court on Friday afternoon, with Sabalenka currently the top-ranked women's player in the world. With the home crowd behind her, however, Raducanu will be hoping to cause an upset as she looks to let her tennis do the talking, having never really lived up to the 2021 US Open triumph that catapulted her to fame as a teenager. Going into this year's Wimbledon, however, much of the conversation around Raducanu revolved around her life away from the court, particularly her personal relationships. While there's lots of rumours, there is no confirmation Raducanu is currently in a relationship. Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz rumour The British star has seen herself romantically linked to a host of different men both within and outside of tennis, with rumours swirling ahead of the tournament of a potential relationship between her and reigning Wimbledon men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz. Article continues below Suggestions that the pair were more than just friends first emerged last summer, but gathered pace last month when it was announced that they would partner each other in the mixed doubles competition at the US Open later this year. Raducanu was also seen cheering on Alcaraz as he won the men's singles event at Queen's, while reports emerged that the Spanish star had visited her at her hotel during the tournament. But while tongues were wagging, the British ace soon shut down the speculation at a Wimbledon press conference, telling reporters: "We're just good friends". Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper rumour Despite Raducanu's insistence, rumours linking her to Alcaraz have persisted with Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios stirring the pot by claiming that she is in a 'love triangle' with the Spaniard and fellow British player Jack Draper, who she has also been linked with having known him since childhood. "I don't know, I think it's a love triangle," he told talkSPORT. "They're [Alcaraz and Draper] fighting over Raducanu I think, I'm not sure." However, the links between Raducanu, Alcaraz and Draper have since been superseded by rumours of a new man in the British women's No.1's life. The new man in the crowd Former tennis prodigy Benjamin Heynold was seen supporting Raducanu at Wimbledon earlier this week, sitting alongside her coach Nick Cavaday as she beat Vondrousova on Wednesday. Now a 24-year-old student at the University of North Carolina, Heynold has known the British star since they were six, while they both represented Team GB together at junior level. While not much else is known about Heynold, his long-standing friendship with Raducanu has led to speculation that their relationship may have evolved into something more serious, as he was also seen in her corner at Queen's last month, as well as other tournaments previously. Emma Raducanu and Romeo Beckham rumour It comes after Raducanu was also linked to David and Victoria Beckham's son Romeo after he watched her in action against Elise Mertens at Wimbledon last year. The former Brentford footballer took to Instagram while at the match to post a picture of Raducanu playing, which he accompanied with two love heart emojis. While the post again set tongues wagging, Raducanu played down suggestions of a romantic link after the match as she said: "I mean, I think he's, yeah, he's really cool. "His dad is, you know, someone that I think every athlete looks up to, especially every British athlete, you know what he's kind of gone through with the media, with his career, with the pressure moments." Emma Raducanu's split from billionaire's son Speculation around Raducanu's personal life follows her split from Carlo Agostinelli, the son of billionaire Robert Agostinelli and a footballer previously on the books of Tottenham Hotspur, last year. The couple reportedly first started dating in May 2023 and were seen on trips together, including one to Mexico as they attended Dior's 2024 Cruise show. They were also seen walking arm-in-arm and smiling together at Paris Fashion Week as their romance was confirmed. However, they later split up, with Raducanu unfollowing Agostinelli on social media just weeks ahead of last year's Wimbledon. Parents intervention While her love life is a hot topic at present, the tennis ace has revealed that her parents imposed a 'boyfriend' ban on her when she was younger, in order to keep her focused on her training. "My parents were very much against [boyfriends] as it interfered with training," she told The Times. "When I was younger I wasn't even allowed to hang out with my girl friends. Article continues below "A lot of the time I was very resentful [of the ban]. But it made me very confident and comfortable in my own company, which is also a big strength."

Oasis fans travel from Australia for band's first gig in 16 years
Oasis will kickstart their long-awaited worldwide reunion tour in Cardiff on Friday. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform together for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, when they appear at the Welsh capital's Principality Stadium. Fans Lachlan Weekes and Jayden Helm, who spent more than a day travelling from Sydney, Australia, to attend the concert in the Welsh capital, were among fans gathering ahead of the gig. Mr Weekes said: 'We've been planning it forever. We always said that if they got back together, we'd be at that first show.' Mr Helm said: 'We've been lifelong fans – we're 22 and 21, so haven't really had a chance to see them before. 'We always said it was worth it to come, we wouldn't miss it for the world,' he added. 'To take time off work to come over here, it's more than worth it.' The pair also visited Manchester, where the band formed in 1991, stopping off at Heaton Park as part of their personal Oasis tour. Lawrence Evans, from just outside Swansea, said his 'life changed' when he started listening to the band as he then started to play music and write songs. He said: 'They were the band that made me realise how much guitar music meant to me. 'It's something that stays with you forever. If you get into this type of music, I think it's in your soul forever,' he added. His son Jimmy said of the concert: 'The fact that it's in Wales is really special for us. 'It's the first time I get to see Oasis, (my dad) he's lost count, he's seen them countless times. 'I've been waiting for this day all my life.' Alex Schuetz, an Oasis fan from Germany, said you could not travel far enough to see the band. 'The first time I saw them was in 1997,' he said. 'The last time was in Manchester 2009, just before they broke up. 'I even got a ticket for a small festival in Germany and on the ferry to that festival I heard they broke up. 'I was like, 'Oh my god' something was dying inside of me – it sounds a bit stupid, but it took me ages (to get over it).' He added: 'I've come from Germany. You cannot travel far enough, I've been a fan since 1995.' Glenn Moss, an Oasis fan from Essex who regularly gets mistaken for Liam Gallagher, said he started working as an impersonator ahead of the Britpop band's reunion, having previously been against the idea. He said: 'I get stopped all the time – as soon as I got here yesterday four people within five minutes stopped me asking if I was him or for a photo.' The brothers announced the Oasis Live '25 tour last August, starting with two dates in Cardiff on Friday and Saturday, before heading across the UK and Ireland. Doors are expected to open at 5pm, with Cast and the Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft in support. Former members of the group are expected to make a return, with Andy Bell on bass, and Gem Archer and Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs on guitars. Noel was spotted getting off the train in Cardiff on Tuesday, while a drone display spelling out the band's name could be seen over the stadium on Wednesday. Fans across the city have also heard what they believe to be rehearsals in the Principality throughout the week. The reunion announcement came 15 years after Noel quit the Britpop band, saying he 'simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer', following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. While fans have been pleading for the group to reunite since they disbanded, website issues and controversial dynamic pricing brought outrage, with many failing to secure a spot. After tickets for the UK and Ireland shows went on sale last year, some standard tickets appeared to have jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. Following Cardiff, Oasis will visit Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September. The group will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. A movie, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour. The rock band was led by lead guitarist Noel and his brother, lead vocalist Liam, during their 18 years together. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.

In Pictures: Oasis fans gather in Cardiff for first much anticipated reunion gig
The concert at the Principality Stadium reunites brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher for the first time since 2009. The PA news agency is in the Welsh capital along with tens of thousands of the Britpop band's fans soaking up the atmosphere. Tonight's gig has been 16 years in the making.
