Rajasthan's Breaking Bad: Inspired By Netflix Show, How 2 Science Teachers Ran MD Lab In Flat

Last Updated: Rajasthan's Breaking Bad: The total market value of 5 kg of Mephedrone or MD produced at the lab in the flat is estimated at Rs 15 crore The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recently busted a drugs manufacturing laboratory being operated from a residential society in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district. The two science teachers allegedly operating it, have been arrested, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said. They claimed they were inspired by popular Netflix show Breaking Bad. The federal agency, in a statement, said the laboratory was manufacturing Mephedrone (4-Methylmethcathinone), also known as MD. Searches at a flat in Dream Homes Apartments, Ridhi Sindhi Enclave, in the district led to the seizure of 780 gms of the drug, it said. According to narcotics experts, MD is a synthetic stimulant drug in the cathinone family, which gives a feeling of euphoria immediately after consumption, but is addictive and continuous use causes severe psychological and health conditions. The arrested duo The NCB arrested two — Indrajeet Vishnoi, 35, physics teacher at a private school and coaching centre till last year and a Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) aspirant, and Manoj Bhargav, 25, a science teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Muklawa, Sri Ganganagar. NCB officials said the duo had taken the flat on rent about two months ago, and they had sourced the chemicals and equipment from Delhi. What was found in the flat? Drugs worth Rs 15 crore sold in over 2 months Of the 5 kg made, 4.22 kg had already been sold. The NCB recovered 780 grams during the raid. This batch alone has a market value of Rs 2.34 crore. The total market value of all 5 kg produced is estimated at Rs 15 crore. How harmful is mephedrone? Mephedrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone (4-MMC), is a synthetic stimulant drug that is chemically similar to cathinone, a substance found in the khat plant. It's often classified as a 'designer drug' and was once part of the group known as 'bath salts'. It's typically found in the form of a white powder or crystals, and it can be swallowed, snorted, injected, or even bummed (rectal use). It stimulates the central nervous system and produces effects similar to MDMA (ecstasy), amphetamines, and cocaine. Short-term side effects include nausea and vomiting, anxiety, paranoia, or panic attacks, insomnia, agitation or aggression, headaches, loss of appetite. More serious/long-term risks include heart problems, seizures, risk of addiction and tolerance, mental health issues, damage to the nose or veins, hyperthermia, risky behaviour. Overdose is possible and can be life-threatening. What is Breaking Bad? On Netflix, Breaking Bad follows Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston), a struggling, frustrated high school chemistry teacher from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who becomes a crime lord in the local methamphetamine drug trade, driven to provide for his family financially after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Gold, silver prices surge this week; silver crosses Rs 1.10 lakh per kg

New Delhi: Both gold and silver prices saw a sharp rise this week, with gold gaining over Rs 400 and silver surging by more than Rs 2,700 per kilogram. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold climbed to Rs 97,511 per 10 grams, up from Rs 97,021 a week ago -- a gain of Rs 490. In the previous week, gold had already seen an increase of Rs 1,237 per 10 grams. The price of 22-carat gold rose to Rs 89,320 per 10 grams, up from Rs 88,871. Meanwhile, 18-carat gold went up from Rs 72,766 to Rs 73,133 per 10 grams during the same period. Silver also saw a steep rise, gaining Rs 2,710 to reach Rs 1,10,290 per kilogram, up from Rs 1,07,580 last week. This marks the first time silver has closed above Rs 1.10 lakh per kg on a weekly basis, with prices hovering near record highs. The recent surge in precious metals is being attributed to global uncertainty. The announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding tariffs on key trade partners like Canada, Europe, and other countries has contributed to the rising tension in global markets. Gold and silver are traditionally seen as safe-haven assets during times of geopolitical and economic instability. When demand rises amid limited supply, prices tend to increase. Since January 1 this year, the price of 24-carat gold has jumped by Rs 21,349 or 28.03 per cent, rising from Rs 76,162 to Rs 97,511 per 10 grams. Similarly, silver has gone up by Rs 24,273 or 28.21 per cent, from Rs 86,017 to Rs 1,10,290 per kilogram. This is now the highest price silver has ever reached. The previous record was Rs 1,09,550 per kg, which was set on June 18 this year. The rise in both gold and silver is being seen as a response to growing global uncertainty.
