India face Pakistan in Dubai as ACC announces 2025 Asia Cup venues
India will face Pakistan in Dubai on September 14 in the 2025 Asia Cup, with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announcing the venues for the tournament on Saturday. While the schedule had been announced earler, the venues were yet to be revealed and were unveiled only on August 2. 'The tournament will be played across two world class venues of Dubai, which will host 11 matches, and Abu Dhabi, which will host eight matches, bringing a total of 19 T20 internationals to fans across the region,' the ACC said in its statement. Apart from India and Pakistan, the other participants in the tournament are Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and Oman. India are designated hosts, although the tournament will be played in the venues in UAE. India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are slotted in Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong are in Group B. The teams last met in an ODI during the Champions Trophy at the same venue, with India beating Pakistan by six wickets on the back of Virat Kohli's century. Their last T20 meeting came during the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York with a Rohit Sharma-led Indian side edging their rivals by six runs. With only seven months left until the next T20 World Cup iteration to be played in India and Sri Lanka, the continental tournament will return to the T20 format. The previous edition of the Asia Cup was played in the ODI format on the road to the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where India demolished hosts Sri Lanka to lift the title. The possibility of at least one match up between India and Pakistan at the Asia Cup has been a matter of some controversy. The ACC has stated in its statement that there is potential for more games between the two teams after the group stage with their set to be a Super Four stage and then a final. Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary is among those who questioned how India are playing Pakistan in the tournament after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. 'The situation was so bad, how can we think of an India-Pakistan match? I feel that it should be considered again and the India-Pakistan match should not happen in such an environment,' Tiwary said, speaking on ANI. The two sides were slated to meet in the Women's Asia Cup for emerging players last month. However, the BCCI withdrew from the tournament in the aftermath of the terror attacks and the consequent escalation in hostilities.

London [UK], August 2 (ANI): Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's exceptional innings of 118 runs gave India an upper hand after the end of the second session in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2025, which is being played at the Kennington Oval in London on Saturday. At the stroke of Tea on Day 3 of The Oval Test, Team India are 304/6 with Ravindra Jadeja and Dhruv Jurel unbeaten on the crease. After the end of the session, the Shubman Gill-led side led by 281 runs. The visitors started the second session from 189/4 with Jaiswal (85*) and Gill (11*) unbeaten on the crease. India didn't have a good start to the session as they lost the wicket of Gill (11 runs off 9 balls). He was dismissed by the bowling of Gus Atkinson. Team India touched the 200-run mark in their 48th over. In the 51st over, Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his ton in 127 balls. In the 55th over at the score of 229, Karun Nair (17 runs from 32 balls) was sent back to the pavilion as he was dismissed by Atkinson. On the fourth ball of the 58th over, Jaiswal slammed a boundary, which brought his team's 250 in the innings. In the 65th over at the score of 273, Jaiswal (118 runs in 164 balls) was dismissed on the bowling of Josh Tongue. London [England], August 2 (ANI): Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting wasn't impressed with Yashasvi Jaiswal's 'time wasting' antics towards the final moments of the opening session of the third day of the fifth Test between India and England. India captain Shubman Gill played a sublime drive to find the boundary rope, and then pushed the ball to sprint for a double. Moments after bustling for a couple of runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal started hobbling at the non-striker's end while pointing at his hamstring. The slight delay caused by Jaiswal ran the clock down and ensured that it was the final over before lunch. As he returned towards the dressing room, seemingly walking fine, the England players retorted as emotions boiled over. Words were exchanged, and fingers wagged with Ben Duckett at the centre of the verbal jabs. Gill calmed Jaiswal before the duo returned to the dressing room. Ponting expressed his frustration with Jaiswal and invoked the example of the events that unfolded at Lord's. "I didn't like what I saw there with wasting time in that last over. Especially at the back of what happened at Lord's when India complained about what the English batters did," Ponting said as quoted from Sky Sports. Former England fast-bowling mainstay Stuart Broad shared a different view from Ponting. Jadeja and Sundar refused, considering they were on the cusp of reaching their hard-fought centuries. A statement from Stokes was caught on the stump mic as he said, "Jaddu, do you want to get a Test 100 against Brook & Duckett?" Jadeja responded to the English skipper's comment and said, "What do you want me to do, just walk off?" Zak Crawley, who stood close to the crease, chipped in, saying: "You can, just shake your hand." Jadeja and Sundar eventually blazed past the three-digit mark and eventually shook hands to settle the Test. England's actions drew widespread criticism from fans and former cricketers. (ANI)
