Bizarre moment leads to Germany's win over Denmark at Women's Euro 2025
Trailing 1-0 in a game in which two key VAR decisions in the first half went against them, Germany finally got on the scoresheet when they were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute. Nuesken stepped up and calmly slotted her spot-kick into the bottom corner.
Schueller put the Germans ahead 10 minutes later after Denmark's Emma Farge smashed a clearance into the face of her own team-mate Emma Snerle. It landed at the Bayern Munich forward's feet and she swept it into the far corner.

"This is a victory of mentality, we knew it was going to be tight, we were very happy we were able to turn it around," Germany coach Christian Wueck said. "It was the mentality, they really wanted to win, so we love to take that away with us."
Germany had celebrated what they thought was the opening goal by Klara Buehl but boos rang around the packed St Jakob-Park stadium when it was ruled offside.
That seemed to halt Germany's momentum and Amalie Vangsgaard struck for Denmark in the 26th minute when she took a touch before unleashing a shot from a tight angle past Ann-Katrin Berger.
Germany thought they had won a penalty earlier when the referee whistled and pointed to the spot because of a Denmark handball but VAR determined it was outside the box, prompting more boos from the German fans.
The Germans will secure their quarter-final place if Poland fail to beat Sweden in Tuesday's late Group C game.
Germany defeated Poland in their tournament opener but it came at a heavy cost as captain Giulia Gwinn suffered a knee injury that ended her tournament. Banners of support for the absent skipper dotted the crowd on Tuesday.
Although Gwinn's loss was huge, the team's collective strength enabled them to come from behind after trailing at halftime for only the fourth time in Euros history, as they cranked up the intensity in the second half, finishing the game with 27 shots to Denmark's five.
Germany have dominated the Euros since they won the competition for the first time as West Germany in 1989. They lost 2-1 to England in the 2022 final, but have been rebuilding after suffering a shock exit in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup. Denmark had lost to neighbours Sweden in their opener.
"I think our performance is good in general for a team working extremely hard, but it's a very good German team," Denmark coach Andree Jeglertz said.
"It's about winning and taking points, and I'm very disappointed that we don't manage to keep the result, or at least get a point in the end."

Ruben Amorim bans Man Utd bomb squad – including Marcus Rashford – from training ground until team-mates have gone home
MANCHESTER UNITED'S five outcasts have all been called back to work – but they will only train once the rest of the squad have gone home. Ruben Amorim decided ten days ago that Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia should stay away from first team training. 6 6 6 They were given extra time off to find new clubs – but as yet nothing has been finalised. So the quintet have now been told to return to Carrington although they will all report around 5pm once the manager and his chosen players have departed. And as yet there are no plans to re-integrate any of them into the main group. Amorim has put his players through their paces in the morning and early afternoon – so the first team squad will be long gone by the time the five report. United made it clear at the time their facilities would remain available to the players even though they are excluded from training. Rashford and Garnacho have both taken advantage of that offer and are believed to have trained together last Thursday. The England forward arrived just eight minutes after his manager had gone home – and the only other players left at the complex were the Under 10s. Rashford is eager to work around whatever obstacles he must to stay on top form and maintain the possibility of a move materialising later in the window. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS On Monday he was seen leaving a gym in Salford after a four-hour session training alone while waiting for the 5pm curfew to pass. 6 6 Now the 27-year-old and his four fellow exiles have also been told they will be expected to clock in this weekend. Juventus want Rashford! However Amorim and his players are heading for Sweden on Friday night ready for a pre-season game against Leeds in Stockholm the following day. And the following Tuesday, those selected will fly to the USA for a three-match tour spread over two weeks. Rashford is hoping Barcelona will firm up their interest and offer him an escape route to the Nou Camp in the coming weeks. Sancho is expected to join Juventus – while Garnacho has been linked with Chelsea and has also turned down a move to Saudi Arabia. Real Betis are hopeful they can lure Antony back to them after he impressed during a loan spell earlier this year. 6 And Celtic are leading the chase to land defender Malacia who has endured a miserable couple of years with injury. United are hoping to raise money from the five exiles to boost Amorim's spending power this summer. A £65million move for Brentford's Bryan Mbuemo has been lined up but the Cameroon returned to training with the Bees on Monday with nothing resolved. Amorim would love to have the 25-year-old in the squad that flies to the US next week for games against Bournemouth, West Ham and Everton.

Ben Healy dethrones Tadej Pogacar to take yellow jersey as Simon Yates wins stage 10 at Tour de France
Irishman Ben Healy rode himself into the yellow jersey with an outstanding display of grit and power as Simon Yates won stage 10 of the Tour de France from a breakaway on the Puy de Sancy. A monster Bastille Day stage through the Massif Central delivered the fireworks as Healy put in a huge shift in the break to maintain a sizeable gap over the chasing peloton, fighting his way to third on the stage and then counting the seconds until Tadej Pogacar finished. Pogacar put in a late dig as he traded blows with rival Jonas Vingegaard, but when the world champion came in four minutes 51 seconds behind Yates, 4:20 behind Healy, the yellow jersey swapped shoulders with Healy 29 seconds better off going into Tuesday's rest day. Yates profited as he followed Healy's lead for most of the last 20 kilometres, then distanced him on the climb to the finish, but the biggest grin was on the face of the 24-year-old EF Education-EasyPost man who became the fourth Irishman to wear yellow and the first since Stephen Roche in 1987. 'It was insanely tough, it was a battle against myself really,' Healy said. 'I just had to dig deep. My team-mates put in so much work today, Harry (Sweeny) and Alex (Baudin), I really, really wanted to pay them back and I'm happy I could do that in the end. 'I kind of gambled a bit. I had the stage win in the bank and how often do you get the opportunity to put yourself into yellow so I felt I had to take that and really go for it.' With the peloton made to wait an extra 24 hours for their first rest day, race organisers put a monster challenge in their way with eight categorised climbs and 4,500 metres of elevation on the 165km stage from Ennezat – ideal territory for a breakaway. A group of 29 eventually got away but were given little rope until they were whittled down to a more focused group of 17 midway through the stage, with the gap growing sufficiently to give Healy a hope of yellow as UAE Team Emirates-XRG - the team of then-race leader Tadej Pogacar - burned through teammates. Healy got the message, abandoning the ambition of doubling up on his stage six victory and putting all of his efforts into powering on what became a group of just six riders, maintaining the gap to the peloton at more than five-and-a-half minutes almost until the foot of the 3.3km climb to the finish. That was the moment for Yates, the Giro d'Italia winner who came to the Tour to support Vingegaard, to launch his own attack, quickly distancing Healy and holding off Thymen Arensman to win his third career Tour stage and first since 2019 by a margin of nine seconds. 'It's been a long time!' Yates said. 'I was not really expecting any opportunities here. I came fully focused on Jonas and the GC, but the stage played out in a way that I could be here for the stage win and I took it with both hands. 'I'm under no illusions about what we're here for. Even today the main plan was to be there in case something was happening from behind but the gap was too big so I cracked on and went for the stage.' Remco Evenepoel lost six seconds to Pogacar in the final and is now a full minute behind the world champion in third place, 16 seconds clear of fourth-placed Vingegaard.
