Former spot-fixing accused Ankeet Chavan appointed Mumbai U-14 head coach after ban lifted by BCCI
New Delhi: In a shocking decision, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Chairman has appointed Ankeet Chavan to fill the position of the head coach Under-14 team. The move has triggered much interest considering that Chavan had been involved in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal of the IPL, prompting the BCCI to hand him a life ban.
Ankeet Chavan's appointment
Arihant Chavan is among the three Rajasthan Royals (RR) players who were given a lifetime ban on their role in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, an episode that cost paceman S Sreesanth his career as well. But in 2021, the BCCI cut down the ban imposed on Chavan to seven years, which allowed him to come back to the sport. This choice paved the way to his returning to competitive cricket two years prior to taking over his new coaching position. In his career, Chavan played in 18 first-class matches, 20 List A games and 13 IPL matches.
Chavan remained attached to the game, and he still played club cricket with the Karnataka Sports Club in Mumbai. He brought out his commitment to the sport by passing the Level-1 coaching test. His new job, as the Under-14 coach of the MCA is the new start of his cricketing career.
S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, and Ankeet Chavan were handed life ban by the disciplinary committee of the BCCI due to the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. All three of the players were acquitted at trial in a Delhi Court in 2015 because there was not enough evidence to prove their guilt, yet the BCCI still imposed the penalties until June 2021 when Chavan had his suspension formally reduced by two years to seven years.
The MCA announced on Wednesday other coaching and selection updates with Omkar Salvi continuing as head coach of the Ranji Trophy squad. This has been four years in the making following a successful season in his direction and has also seen him get bowling coach position with Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the meantime, the former India cricketer Sandeep Patil will still remain chairman of the selection committee.
In a conversation with Indian Express, Chavan considered the coaching stint as his second innings.
'This is a second innings for me, and I am eagerly looking forward to it. There is always a chance to make a comeback in life. I want to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association for putting their faith in me. Coaching has always been on my mind, and I am aware of the challenges that lie ahead. At the Under-14 level, I want to focus on developing the players' basic techniques to help them improve their game,' Chavan told Indian Express.

India's home white-ball series against Bangladesh postponed to September 2026
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 5 (ANI): The Indian team's home white-ball series against Bangladesh has been postponed from August 2025 to September next year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday. The BCCI, in a statement, announced that it and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have reached a mutual agreement to defer the series, consisting of three Tests and ODIs each. 'The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026,' the statement said. This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course. India's last ODI assignment was the ICC Champions Trophy, where they emerged victorious after beating New Zealand in the finals by four wickets. Skipper Rohit Sharma won the 'Player of the Match' award in the final for his match-winning knock of 76, while Shreyas Iyer (243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60 with two fifties) and Virat Kohli (218 runs in five matches at an average of 54.50, with a century and a fifty) starred with the bat as well, playing some crucial knocks. Among the bowlers, spinner Varun Chakravarthy and pacer Mohammed Shami (nine wickets) each were the shining stars for the Men in Blue. India last travelled to Bangladesh in 2024, where both teams locked horns against each other in a three-match T20I (3-0) and a two-match Test series (2-0). The visitors registered a clean sweep over the Bangla Tigers as they didn't lose a single game on the tour. (ANI)

Rohit Sharma's net worth in 2025: Everything you need to know about Mumbai Indian's top-scorer
Rohit Sharma has swapped whites for wealth in a way few cricketers ever do. The Mumbai-born opener has amassed staggering earnings through match contracts, IPL retainers and high-value endorsements. While he officially stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year, his bank balance shows no sign of slowing down. With annual central contracts, hefty per-match fees and luxury brand alliances, Sharma's financial portfolio is as diversified as his batting repertoire. Here's a closer look at how India's former Test skipper built his fortune—one run, one deal and one investment at a time. On-field earnings and match fees According to Mint, Sharma commands a Grade A+ central contract worth Rs 7 crore annually, plus match fees of Rs 15 lakh per Test and Rs 6 lakh per ODI. He was also retained by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 16 crore ahead of the 2022 IPL auction, ensuring a steady income even as Test duties wound down. His total estimated net worth, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth and other sources, stands at 25 million dollars, which is approximately Rs 213 crore as of July 2025. His IPL haul remains among the highest in the league, matching his reputation as one of India's most reliable hitters. Brand deals and investments As reported by Sportskeeda, Sharma earns roughly Rs 5 crore per endorsement. His roster includes global names such as Adidas, Hublot and Oppo, alongside domestic campaigns for CEAT and IIFL Finance. Off the pitch, he's invested in real estate—a 6,000 sq ft. apartment in Worli valued at around Rs 30 crore, per GQ India—and maintains a luxury car collection featuring a Lamborghini Urus and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Philanthropy and beyond Sharma's wealth fuels more than personal comfort. He's long supported underprivileged children's cancer treatments and champions wildlife conservation as a WWF-India Rhino Ambassador. His Rohit4Rhinos campaign raises both funds and awareness, ensuring his impact extends well past stadium gates.
