Within 30 seconds of takeoff, fate tore the two apart, reported TOI.On Thursday afternoon, AI Flight 171 — bound for London — crashed moments after departing Ahmedabad. Viswashkumar, a British citizen, stumbled out of the burning wreckage. He is the only confirmed survivor. He now lies in bed 11 of ward B7 at Ahmedabad civil hospital . His brother Ajaykumar is feared to be among the 265 who lost their lives.'There was a loud noise,' Viswashkumar told his cousin Dhirendra Somabhai from his hospital bed. 'The plane hung mid-air. Then came the pilot's voice: 'Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!''Dhirendra told TOI Viswashkumar remembers only jumping through a door. 'Nothing more.'Video footage shows him staggering through debris, bloodied and in shock, crying out: 'Plane fatyo che! Plane fatyo che!' (The plane exploded). Locals and rescue workers rushed to pull him into an ambulance. At the hospital, he wept and kept repeating: 'Where is my brother? Leave me alone. I don't want to talk. Can anyone tell me where he is?'Officials sealed off his ward around 2:30 pm after confirming his identity. Gujarat ATS and Ahmedabad crime branch officers have since restricted access.The brothers had lived in London for 15 years, jointly running a garment business in the UK and a fishing venture in Diu . They were among 15 residents from Diu's Bucharwada and Vanakbara villages on the flight.Family friend Ayub Mansuri, who dropped them at the airport Thursday morning, said Viswashkumar's father in London was the first to call him with the news. 'I managed to speak to Viswash three times after the crash, but then his phone died,' he told the news outlet. 'I hired an auto and made my way past roadblocks to reach the hospital. He had head injuries and bruises.'Dhirendra recalled a brief conversation the night before. 'We were all in Patelwadi. Viswash looked at me and said, 'I don't know when we'll meet next.''Diu additional district magistrate Vivek Kumar confirmed that all 15 passengers from the region have been identified. 'Only one survived. A team from the Diu administration has left for Ahmedabad,' he told TOI.

The trio had reportedly spent nearly two weeks there in isolation, relying entirely on their surroundings and minimal resources. Kutina, an artist and traveller originally from Russia, told PTI that the life they led in the forest was not one of desperation, but of self-reliance and peace. 'We woke up with the sun, swam in rivers and lived in nature... We painted, sang songs, read books, and lived peacefully.' 'A mother of four, with no hospital births' Kutina described herself as a mother of four who has spent over 15 years travelling through nearly 20 countries. She said all her children were born without medical assistance, and she has personally educated them, including Preya and Ama, who have never been to formal school. 'They are very smart, healthy, and talented. Everyone who meets them says so,' she claimed, adding that she now intends to homeschool them formally. Kutina earns through artwork, babysitting, teaching, and music videos. She also receives occasional support from her family. 'And if I can't find work, my brother, father or even my son helps me. So we always have enough money for what we need.' 'We were happier in the forest' While the family was moved out of the forest for safety reasons, Kutina now claims that their current situation is far worse. 'We are now kept in an uncomfortable place. It's dirty, there's no privacy and we get only plain rice to eat,' she said in an interview, alleging that many of their belongings, including the ashes of her late son, were taken. She insists the media coverage has misrepresented her. 'Everything shown on TV about us is false. I have videos and photos that show how clean and happy our life was before.' An emotional return to India and questions over custody Kutina said she hasn't returned to Russia due to personal losses and legal issues, the most devastating being the death of her son nine months ago. 'There were multiple personal losses, not just the death of my son, but also a few other close people. We were constantly dealing with grief, paperwork, and other problems.' Despite visiting four other countries recently, Kutina says she always found herself returning to India. 'We love India deeply, its environment, its people, everything.' Gambhira bridge collapse: Truck driver who survived, rescued drowning man discharged from hospital
Gambhira bridge collapse VADODARA: A week after the Gambhira bridge collapse tragedy, which claimed 20 lives, truck driver Ganpat Solanki , who cheated death and rescued a drowning man, was discharged from the state-run SSG Hospital on Wednesday. As Solanki, 40, a native of Udaipur, Rajasthan, walked out of the govt hospital, he appealed to the Gujarat govt to provide more financial assistance to his family. On July 9, the driver displayed rare courage and used presence of mind after he survived the 50-foot plunge from the collapsed bridge into the Mahi River. He managed to rescue Narendra Parmar from drowning. Parmar, however, succumbed during treatment at the hospital on Friday last. 'I feel sorry that he did not survive even after he was rescued. May God bless his soul and help his family,' said Solanki, who was driving a tanker from Dahej to Kandla and slowed down while crossing the bridge when he suddenly felt a jolt. After his truck got submerged in the Mahi River, Solanki at first did not realise that the bridge collapsed. Solanki, who himself received injuries in his left leg and an arm, extended his leg into the river, which Parmar grabbed, and later the driver pulled him up using his other arm. After getting discharged, Solanki thanked doctors at the hospital, which he said were like God for people like him. 'I just want to appeal to the govt to kindly provide more assistance as I have four girls in my family. The govt can also intervene, asking my company to provide me some assistance,' said Solanki, who works with an Odhav-based transport firm in Ahmedabad. With Solanki getting discharged, there are two other injured currently undergoing treatment at SSG Hospital. 'While Raju Hathiya is being treated at the orthopaedics ward, another patient, Dilip Padhiyar, who developed a lung infection, is currently in the surgical intensive care unit. Their condition is stable,' said Dr Hitendra Chavan, RMO of SSG Hospital, told TOI.
