Armed suspect fatally shot by Hollywood police during arrest attempt, authorities say
Detectives say they were conducting surveillance around 4 p.m. on Aug. 3 near Southwest 61st Avenue and Southwest 19th Street in Miramar when they located 32-year-old Donald Taylor.
Hollywood Police said Taylor was armed and refused verbal commands before "an officer-involved shooting occurred."
A firearm was recovered at the scene and Taylor was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he later died.

Hollywood Police said Taylor had active warrants and was suspected in a violent crime spree across Hollywood and Miramar, including a shooting on Aug. 1 in the 1200 block of Hollywood Boulevard.
The victim in that incident remains hospitalized in stable but critical condition. Detectives believe the victim and Taylor knew each other.
Police also linked Taylor to the following incidents:
• July 30, 3:56 p.m. – A vehicle burglary at 1450 S State Road 7, where a firearm was stolen.
• July 30, 4:24 p.m. – An aggravated assault in Miramar at 6590 Pembroke Road, where Taylor allegedly pointed a gun at a patron.
• Aug. 1, 7:00 p.m. – An attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault at the Dollar General at 830 S State Road 7. Police said Taylor grabbed a cashier and pointed a gun at her before fleeing.
• Aug. 2, 5:54 p.m. – An armed robbery at the Walgreens at 5999 Pembroke Road, during which Taylor allegedly pointed a gun at a clerk and robbed the store.
As is standard protocol in police shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

On Friday, Aug. 1, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office announced that a "good samaritan," who was identified as a mariner, found the 23 kilograms — or roughly 50 lbs. — of "suspected cocaine" five miles south of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Both the U.S. Customs Border and Protection and the MCSO then brought the packages ashore before turning them over to federal authorities, according to the MCSO. The MCSO also shared an image to social media of the taped-up packages, which were shaped like bricks, sitting on a dock. There appeared to be roughly 20 packages in total, with certain portions blurred out for the sake of the Facebook post. The identity of the mariner who discovered the suspected cocaine packages has not been released publicly. When reached for comment on Sunday, Aug. 3, the MCSO directed PEOPLE to U.S. Customs Border and Protection. Contacts for the CBP did not immediately respond to a request for further information. According to its website, Islamorada is home to perhaps the "world's highest density of professional offshore and backcountry charter boats" with tournament-grade captains. Both backcountry sport fishing and saltwater fly fishing were pioneered in the village of islands as well, per its site. This is not the first time drugs have been handed in to the MCSO in recent years. In early July, the office shared an image to Facebook of a package containing what it believed to be 1.3 kilograms — or nearly three pounds — of suspected cocaine discovered near Mile Marker 79.5. The package featured an image from the 2000 film Gladiator. Last year, a lobster diver discovered a package of what was believed to be cocaine roughly one mile offshore of the community of Tavernier, per CBS12. A photo shared by the MCSO at the time showed an illustration of a rabbit scull with the word "Bunny" written underneath it, prominently displayed on the packaging. Elsewhere in the state, the Walton County Sheriff's Office announced on X in late June that a beachgoer found nearly $500,000 of cocaine washed up on a local beach. The 25 kilos of drugs were packaged with an image of Yosemite Sam, with authorities encouraging locals to avoid touching any "suspicious packages." More arrests in Tennessee quadruple murder with primary suspect on the run
Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Two more suspects have been arrested in the murder of four people in Tennessee, as primary suspect Austin Drummond remains on the run, police announced Monday. Dearrah Sanders and Brandon Powell were arrested in connection with the murders as Sanders was charged with being an accessory to the killings after the fact and Powell was charged with criminal conspiracy. Dyer County District Attorney Danny Goodman announced the latest arrests Monday during the arraignment of Tanaka Brown, who is charged with tampering with evidence and also being an accessory after the fact. Giovante Thomas was arrested earlier and is also facing accessory charges. Primary suspect, Drummond, is accused of killing the family of four in northwestern Tennessee last week. The 28-year-old remains on the run and is considered armed and dangerous. A $17,500 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest, with part of the funding coming from TBI. "USMS Memphis is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of Austin Drummond," the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced in a post on X Sunday. Authorities believe Drummond is in Jackson, Tenn., where a residents have been told to stay alert and keep their doors locked. A white Audi, Drummond was last seen driving, was located in the area. Drummond faces four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and weapons charges. The bodies of James M. Wilson, 21, Adrianna Williams, 20, Cortney Rose, 38, and Braydon Williams, 15, were found Tuesday along Carrington Road in Tiptonville, near the northwestern Tennessee Border. Investigators believe the murders were a targeted attack. A baby, belonging to Wilson and Williams was found in a car seat "at a random individual's front yard," according to the Dyer County Sheriff's Office. The baby had been dropped off unharmed by someone driving a minivan or SUV.
