Friends kill man after fight over drinks in Ghaziabad, burn his body; 5 nabbed
Forty-year-old Umashankar Sharma had been missing since April 27. Initial probe suggests the accused—Neeraj Saini (33), Ajay Singh (29), Pankaj Saini (19), Manoj Saini (22) and Gaurav Saini (20)—killed Umashankar on April 27 following a scuffle while they were sharing drinks.

Umashankar's brother Dushyantidentified the skeleton on the basis of some clothes found at the spot.
A forensic examination to identify the body is pending.The accused were booked under BNS sections of 103 (murder), 191 (2) (punishment for rioting) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
The ACP said, "A missing person report for Umashankar was filed on May 20. On May 21, the police discovered skeletal remains in the forest behind Heritage School.
Based on this information, the police arrested all five and during questioning, the accused confessed to their crime," the ACP said
During probe, we found Umashankar, Ajay, and Neeraj were drinkingat Nai Sohan Dhaba.
After some time, other friends Pankaj Saini, Manoj Saini, and Gaurav Saini alias Kalu arrived at the hotel and, they decided to a secluded spot behind the school," Rai said.
"While drinking, a scuffle broke out between them and Umashankar hurled abuses at them. When Umashankar didn't stop, the five of them killed him and hid his body in the bushes
Two days later, they went back to the spot and burnt the body," the ACP said.

HYDERABAD: The names of BRS working president KT Rama Rao, MLC K Kavitha and former MP Santosh Kumar were mentioned in the remand report of Purna Chander Badawath in a case related to alleged false promise to marry a woman and abetment of suicide of TV anchor Swetcha Votarkar. On June 28, police had initially registered a case against Purna Chander under Sections 69 and 108 of the BNS after the Telugu news channel anchor allegedly died by suicide at her residence on June 27. Later, based on the statements of the deceased's daughter, a minor girl, the police had registered a POCSO case against him. Police in their remand report told the court that the investigation revealed that the accused, with mala fide intent, took advantage of the vulnerable situation of the deceased, cheated her with false promises of marriage and taking care of her child, and maintained a physical relationship with her for about four years. 'He also introduced her to his friends, office staff as well as eminent figures like Santosh Kumar, KTR and Kalvakuntla Kavitha and others,' the remand report said. When Swetcha started questioning him about his promises, he began avoiding her and later 'abetted' her suicide.

Cybercriminals impersonate Telangana W&CD director; case registered
HYDERABAD: Cybercrime police have registered a case against unidentified cyber fraudsters for impersonating Dr G Srijana, director (FAC) of Women & Child Development (W&CD) and director of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (PR&RD) department, and seeking financial favours from her subordinates. The case was filed under Section 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 319(2) of the BNS based on a complaint. According to the police, several district welfare officers (DWOs) from Jangaon, Khammam and other districts received WhatsApp messages on Tuesday from unknown numbers using Dr Srijana's name and photo, requesting money. An investigation is underway to identify and nab the accused.

Another Tamil Nadu Custodial Assault Video Surfaces, Cops Transferred
Chennai: Even as Tamil Nadu reels under public anger over the alleged custodial death of 27-year-old temple security guard B. Ajithkumar in Sivaganga district, a fresh controversy has erupted with the emergence of CCTV footage showing police brutality at a station in Theni district. The disturbing video, which surfaced on social media on July 2, shows C. Ramesh (34), an autorickshaw driver from Devadanapatti, being repeatedly beaten by policemen inside the Devadanapatti police station. The footage has reignited public concerns over police excesses across the state. According to sources, the incident took place on January 14 when Ramesh was brought to the station for allegedly causing a public nuisance near the Arisikadai bus stop. Based on complaints from local residents, a police team detained Ramesh, reportedly in an inebriated state, and brought him to the station. Ramesh was allegedly caned inside the station by multiple officers before being booked under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for public disturbance. He was later released on station bail. What has stunned the public is how the incident came to light. A lawyer who had visited the police station on the same day for an unrelated matter filed a Right to Information (RTI) request in order to verify his presence at the station. A month later, when the district police responded and provided the CCTV footage, the visuals revealed the brutal assault on Ramesh. Though the video initially remained within legal circles, it was shared on social media on July 2 by the lawyer. The footage gained traction and went viral in the wake of the public outcry over Ajithkumar's custodial death in Thirupuvanam. Following the viral video, the Theni district police issued a press statement denying custodial torture. The statement claimed that the police had used 'minimum necessary force' to subdue Ramesh, who was allegedly intoxicated and uncontrollable at the time. Despite this denial, Theni District Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad has ordered a departmental inquiry led by an Additional Superintendent of Police. Pending investigation, Inspector K. Abdulla, Special Sub-Inspector Shiva Sambu, Head Constable S. Pandian, and Constables Marichamy and Valirajan have been transferred to the Armed Reserve (AR) unit. The incident has intensified calls for greater accountability in police stations across Tamil Nadu, with rights activists demanding independent probes and stronger safeguards against custodial abuse.
