Movement restricted in Rudraprayag as heavy rain disrupts Kedarnath Yatra

The road, which serves as base point for pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath, was obstructed entirely for the movement of passengers due to continuous debris and stones falling near Sonprayag shuttle bridge and in the sliding zone area near Munkatiya.
Kedarnath Dham Yatra pilgrims were stopped at Sonprayag and Gaurikund for safety reasons, and when the debris was cleared, the movement of pilgrims was allowed again, Rudraprayag Police said in a statement. The opening and closing of the road is being controlled, and the movement of passengers is being ensured with extra caution by the concerned working agency, administrative officials and police.
According to a statement by Rudraprayag Police due to continuous rain and debris falling from the hill above, there were difficulties in opening the road at both these places.
When the road became smooth, they were sent on the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route, and those returning from Gaurikund were brought towards Sonprayag.
The district police have appealed to the pilgrims coming to the Kedarnath Dham to come on the Kedarnath Dham Yatra with extra caution and monitor the weather forecast.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operation continued on the second day on the Alaknanda River today for missing persons in the bus accident in which four people died in Rudraprayag on Thursday
The death toll rose to four on Thursday after the body of a missing passenger was recovered near the Srinagar dam in Pauri Garhwal, around 40 kilometres from the accident site.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Inspector Manjari Negi said that a body of another deceased passenger in the Rudraprayag bus accident has been found floating near the dam in Srinagar. The deceased has been identified as Gauri Soni.
The SDRF, assisted by the SSB, has deployed multiple teams along key points of the Alaknanda River.
"As soon as our team received this information, we all gathered here. One team of the SSB is also present. We divided the team into three parts--one near Goa Beach, one near Dhari Devi, and one on the dam. We have split the SSB team into these three sections and are constantly searching with binoculars and ourselves. Whatever we find here, we will recover. We have OVM and rafts. If anyone sees something, we will recover it," Negi added.
According to officials, the bus, which was travelling from Rudraprayag to Badrinath, collided with an oncoming vehicle in the Gholtir area and fell into a 300-metre-deep gorge before landing in the Alaknanda River.

The bodies of Duje Lal (55), a resident of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh; Keval Bisht (43), a resident of Nepal were recovered. Those still missing were identified as Roshan Chaudhary (37), Anveer Dhami (40), Kalluram Chaudhary (60), and Manish Dhami (32), residents of Nepal, and Jaychand alias Bobby (38), Chhotu (22), Priyansh (22), residents of Dehradun. 'Around 3 am, we were informed that a landslide struck a campsite of labourers involved in the construction of a hotel. Of the 29 people at the campsite, 20 were rescued. Two bodies have been recovered, while seven are still missing,' Uttarkashi district magistrate (DM) Prashant Kumar Arya said. Rescue teams are searching for the missing people at a war footing, he said. A part of the national highway was washed out due to the landslide. 'As per our assessment, around 10 metres of the national highway has been washed out. It will take some time for us to restore the traffic movement. The pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham yatra have been stopped at safe locations. Instructions have been issued to ensure availability of essential supplies for them,' he said, adding that the border roads organisation (BRO) and National Highway Authority have been directed to carry out the road restoration work. 'Five JCB machines, Poclain machines have been deployed to restore road connectivity,' he said. 'It is a new landslide zone. It was a safe spot..... No such incident was reported earlier there,' Arya said. He added that additional district magistrate Mukta Mishra and Barkot sub divisional magistratre (SDM) Brijesh Tiwari, were supervising rescue and relief operations. It came days after five people were buried under a landslide near 9 Kaichi Bhairav Temple on the Yamunotri trek route on June 23. Rescuers recovered two bodies from the debris and rescued an injured man on the same day. Two people are still missing. In a review meeting in Dehradun, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officials to expedite the search operation for the 'missing' labourers. He said, 'Out of 29 labourers, 20 have been rescued safely. The search operation by NDRF, SDRF and district administration is bodies have been recovered.'

Uttarakhand: Nine workers missing as midnight cloudburst triggers landslide
Dehradun, June 29 (UNI) A midnight cloudburst triggered a massive landslide leaving nine construction workers missing as a thick mass of muck and debris engulfed their camp today in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, prompting the authorities to suspend Chardham pilgrimage on Yamunotri track for the next 24 hours. A joint search and rescue operation has been launched by multiple agencies around the disaster spot on Yamunotri National Highway. Police and rescue team members said around 19 workers were trapped under the thick mass of sludge that slid down after the midnight cloudburst. The deluge of sludge and debris completely devastated the labour camp where workers had put up tents. Ten workers were rescued safely by the teams of local police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response (NDRF), National Highway and district administration. However, nine workers were still missing. Police said five of the missing persons were of Nepalese origin, three were from Dehradun and one was from Uttar Pradesh. The missing persons were mainly road construction workers and those engaged in a nearby under-construction hotel. Reacting to the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on 'X', "It's reported that some workers are missing in a landslide at Silai Band area of Barkot Tehsil in district Uttarkashi. SDRF, NDRF and other teams have reached the site. They have launched an intensive relief and rescue operation to find missing persons. I am in constant touch with the authorities concerned." Meanwhile, the Uttarkashi district administration is ensuring controlled access of the Yamunotri National Highway laying priority on public safety. Chardham pilgrimage has been suspended on the route for the next 24 hours. The step has been been taken for the safety of the pilgrims stranded on the way as the road is blocked at several places due to landslides caused by the sudden cloudburst. Stranded pilgrims are being taken to safer locations by the police and district administration. Incessant rains for nearly two days in this hill area have caused multiple road fractures on Yamunotri Highways blocking the road on several points, informed SDRF officials. Uttarkashi: At least two labourers lost their lives, and seven others are still missing after a devastating cloudburst triggered a landslide in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district early on Sunday. The incident occurred near an under-construction hotel in the Silai area along the Yamunotri National Highway, washing away a labourers' campsite where 29 workers had taken shelter. While 20 people were rescued, nine were reported missing. Later, it was confirmed that two people were dead. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while speaking to reporters, confirmed the recovery of two bodies. "This morning, a large landslide occurred in Uttarkashi, trapping 29 people who were working there. Twenty people have been evacuated from their homes. Two bodies have been recovered so far," he said. CM Dhami also assured that extensive rescue operations were underway. "NDRF, SDRF and other related teams are carrying out the rescue operations at the site. For the next two months, all the District Magistrates have been asked to remain on high alert," he stated. The affected labourers were working at a private hotel construction site. According to an official statement, the rescue efforts involve 20 companies of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), five of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and eight police teams. The missing workers have been identified as Dujelal (55), Keval Thapa (43), Roshani Choudhary (40), Vimla Dhami (26), Kalluram Chaudhary (55), Bobby (38), Chotu (22), Priyansh (20), and Manish Dhami (40). Due to the prevailing weather conditions, authorities have issued advisories asking pilgrims to postpone their travel to Char Dham shrines -- Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri -- and stay at safe locations until conditions improve. The Chief Minister said that food, accommodation, and essential services are being provided at designated shelters. "Due to bad weather conditions, we have suspended the Char Dham Yatra, and the pilgrims have been asked to stay in safe locations where food, accommodation and necessary items are being provided to them. As soon as the conditions improve, all the pilgrims will be allowed to move forward," CM Dhami said. He also spoke about ongoing UPSC exams across the state. "The administration brought students or candidates to some places in some districts. Despite the bad weather, the percentage of candidates taking the exam is better than last year. We are working in every possible way to ensure the safety of all the people," he said. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in the state. Vikram Singh, Director of the Dehradun Weather Office, said, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place in several districts in Uttarakhand for the next two days. A red alert has been issued for Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. For other districts, an orange alert has been issued for two days, beginning Sunday." He further warned residents living near rivers and streams to take precautions and shift to safer areas. "Even on July 1 and 2, heavy to very heavy rain has been predicted in the state," he said. As rivers continue to swell dangerously close to their banks, the administration has urged residents near riverbanks to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols.
