Rossi scores go-ahead goal to boost Columbus Crew to 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps
Columbus (8-3-7) won for the first time since May 3 when it beat Charlotte FC, 4-2. Vancouver fell to 10-2-5. It was the Whitecaps' first MLS loss since a 3-1 defeat against the Chicago Fire on March 22.
Rossi scored the final goal in the 23rd minute as the Crew took advantage of a Vancouver turnover deep in its end. Dániel Gazdag stole a lazy Whitecaps pass and fed Rossi for a right-footed tap at the middle of the box.
Ibrahim Aliyu scored his second goal as a member of the Crew just 68 seconds in for a 1-0 Columbus lead. Aliyu took a pass from Lassi Lappalainen at the center of the box for the score. It was the second-fastest regular-season goal in the Crew's history.
Daniel Ríos scored in the 6th minute from the middle outside the box off a pass from Mathias Laborda to level the score.
The Crew reached the back of the net three times in the second half, but the apparent goals were wiped clean due to offside calls.

LOUIS (AP) — Marcel Hartel scored two goals — the 29-year-old's first career multi-goal game in MLS — to help St. Louis City beat the Portland Timbers 2-1 on Sunday night to snap a three-game losing streak. Roman Bürki's had three saves for St. Louis (4-12-6), which ended it's five-game winless streak. Advertisement Hartel scored on a volley from point-blank range — off a cross played in by Célio Pompeu the was deflected in the center of the area — to make it 1-1 in the 54th minute. Then, in the 67th, Hartel put away a header, off a long arcing entry played in by Conrad Wallem, that deflected off goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau's hands into the net to make it 2-0. It was the first career goal contribution for Wallem, a 25-year-old rookie midfielder. St. Louis outshot the Timbers 21-10, 8-4 on target. David Da Costa, on the counter-attack, cut inside toward the top of the penalty arc and rolled a shot between three defenders that slipped inside the right post to give Portland a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. A 24-year-old rookie, Da Costa has scored a goal in back-to-back games for the first time in MLS. Crépeau stopped six shots for Portland (9-6-6). 🚨 St. Louis end losing run with upset comeback win over Portland
Homefield heroics were the order of the day for Western Conference strugglers St. Louis City after securing a 2-1 come-from-behind win against the visiting Portland Timbers. Scorers: Hartel 54', 67'; Da Costa 19' Advertisement St. Louis were close to opening the scoring just before the 6th minute mark when Tomas Totland was put through on goal with a ball over the top, only for the Norwegian full-back to be brilliantly denied by Portland's Maxime Crepeau. But that spirited opening push for a first goal was scuppered in the 19th minute when David Da Costa slotted a perfectly-placed effort into the bottom corner beyond an outstretched Roman Bürki from outside the box to bag his fourth goal of the 2025 MLS season and second goal in as many games. A top-class save from Bürki with a strong hand at his near post to deny Da Costa a first-half brace kept Portland from doubling their advantage before the break, with the Swiss shot-stopper showing why he remains one of the best the league has to offer. Just minutes after the restart, it would be Bürki who, once again, denied Portland a second on the night when he blitzed off his line while standing tall to turn away a close-range effort from Da Costa after he was slipped into the box by Santiago Moreno.
