Ravens' under-the-radar CB may force his way into the starting lineup

Ravens' under-the-radar CB may force his way into the starting lineup Underestimate TJ Tampa at your own risk in Baltimore. He has a chance to crack the Ravens' starting lineup.
The Baltimore Ravens are in a nice spot. They open mandatory minicamp knowing they're in a position many NFL teams wish they were in. They're a legitimate contender. They're well run. There are no question marks in terms of their starter at the quarterback position.
Lamar Jackson is one of the best in the business. John Harbaugh is the NFL's second-longest-tenured head coach. On defense, there are stars, especially in the secondary. Chuck Pagano has returned, and he might have a shot at winning a Super Bowl ring he just missed out on during his last stint here.
Chuck knows a thing or two about great secondary play. He spent four years hanging out with that Ed Reed fellow from 2008 until 2011. Fast forward to the present, and the cupboard is anything but bare. Kyle Hamilton and Marlon Humphrey are already stars. Malaki Starks is the new kid on the block, and Coach Pagano has already been fine-tuning the rookie.
Once minicamp wraps, the Ravens get a mini-break before they dive headfirst into training camp. Chuck will have some interesting decisions to make, including determining who wins an outside cornerback role opposite Nate Wiggins.
Can T.J. Tampa catapult himself past Chidobe Awuzie and into a starter's role?
Let's do some inventory. If a depth chart had to be introduced today, Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks would obviously be the starters at safety. Nate Wiggins is one of the starters on the outside at cornerback. He's expected to make a leap in year two with the franchise.
Marlon Humphrey enjoyed another Pro Bowl season while also being named a First-Team All-Pro. That's the second time he has enjoyed that honor.
Humphrey enjoyed his success while playing the slot position, so he's penciled in there. Who's the other outside corner then? Unless another veteran is brought in, that competition will seemingly feature a tussle between Chidobe Awuzie and T.J. Tampa.
Watch out for T.J.!
Awuzie is the veteran. In eight seasons so far, he has started 81 of his 94 in-game appearances. He has also logged six starts during two postseason runs, but he has been injured.
He has played in eight regular-season games or fewer during three of his past five NFL seasons. He has also missed time during OTAs because of a minor ankle injury.
Tampa has done what most would expect. He has made a name for himself in Chidobe's absence. Might he catapult himself onto the roster? It's highly possible, but if Baltimore adds another veteran to the mix, it could cloud things. They've been linked to veteran free agent Jaire Alexander. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, it bears repeating. Coach Pagano has some work to do as this offseason rolls on and continues.

Arizona Cardinals to face 2 of NFL's most interesting teams in 2025

Bleacher Report named the Cardinals one of the NFL's most interesting teams. They play two other teams on that list. The Arizona Cardinals were named one of the eight most interesting teams to watch in 2025. Because of their defensive additions, the continuity on offense and the belief that quarterback Kyler Murray still has a ceiling he can reach, they will be an intriguing team to pay attention to. Bleacher Report named the eight most interesting teams entering this season. The Cardinals, in addition to being on the list, play two of the other teams. Who are they? Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 8) The last player listed among the eight, the Jaguars are intriguing because quarterback Trevor Lawrence still has something to prove, because receiver Brian Thomas was one of the best rookie receivers in 2024 and they added the most interesting rookie in the league in Travis Hunter, who will play both receiver and cornerback. The Cardinals play the Jaguars at home in Week 12. Atlanta Falcons (No. 6) Michael Penix Jr. will be the starter from Week 1, but they have the most expensive backup quarterback in league history in Kirk Cousins. They added pass rushers in the first round of the draft (Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr.). They had a shot at the postseason last year as they were 8-7 entering the final two games and lost their final two. They, like the Cardinals want to take the next step. Todd Bowles Remains True To Self After Buccaneers Extension

Todd Bowles Remains True To Self After Buccaneers Extension originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ask any key source around the NFL today, and they will all say the same thing about Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles. Advertisement You won't find a nicer person to lead your team. Since becoming head coach of the Buccaneers in 2022, Bowles has helped lead the team to three straight division titles and a playoff win. Tampa Bay rewarded that consistency this week by announcing it was agreeing to terms with Bowles on a long-term contract extension. "I am excited to continue working with (general manager) Jason (Licht) for years to come as we build on the success we've enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals," Bowles said in a team statement. "My family loves Tampa and we're looking forward to delivering more great moments for our fans in the coming seasons." Bowles' statement is a microcosm of who he is as a person. … always true to himself. Even in struggling organizations, he led with professionalism and leadership that is hard to come by in a cut-throat league like the NFL. Advertisement It's what makes him an easy man to root for. Bowles' leadership is also a big reason why Tampa Bay has stayed afloat over the last few years despite injury concerns to some of their aging stars and changes to the quarterback position. But there's one thing that Bowles is missing as a head coach. A Super Bowl. The 61-year-old has won championships as a player, executive, and assistant coach. He has yet to win one while leading the organization from the sideline, though. This year's Buccaneers team could be his best chance to accomplish that feat. … And put a bow on the career of one of the NFL's good guys. Bengals Rookie Competes With UFC Champion in Impressive Wrestling Video

Bengals Rookie Competes With UFC Champion in Impressive Wrestling Video originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dylan Fairchild has a chance to be an immediate starter on the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line as a rookie this season. Advertisement Drafted in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Georgia product is expected to compete for the starting left guard spot with Cordell Volson, who was mentioned as a cut candidate if the Bengals prefer Fairchild and want to generate cap space. With training camp just a few weeks away, Fairchild has been putting in the world to improve his body and be in the best shape possible for camp. Some of those workouts have seen an unconventional approach. Over the weekend, Fairchild traded out the cleats to go barefoot in the octagon. Fairchild tested his wrestling skills face to face with UFC champion Sean Strickland in a workout session. The rookie (in the t-shirt) held his own and earned the respect of one of the best in the business. See for yourself: "The man can wrestle!" Strickland yelled after the scrum. Strickland holds a 29-7 UFC record and beat Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in 2023 for the middleweight title belt. He currently ranks as the No. 2 middleweight fighter in the world. Advertisement Fairchild held his own thanks to his past experience on the mat. The 6-5, 320-pound lineman was a dominant high school wrestler, finishing his career with a 67-0 record. He won two heavyweight state titles and finished 22-0 as a senior at West Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia. Fairchild also played on both offensive and defensive lines in high school, earning four-star status as a football recruit. As a junior with the Bulldogs, Fairchild was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award given to the nation's top interior offensive lineman. Last season, he earned Second Team All-American honors. Fairchild's movement and dexterity was put on full display at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this spring, posting a ridiculous 96 athleticism score - the second-highest among all guards in the class. Advertisement The Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow are getting a world-class athlete in Fairchild at his size and strength. These traits grow the optimism that he will have great success anchoring the interior of Cincinnati's O-line for years to come.
