5 things Canadian Olympic snowboarder Mark McMorris can't live without
Those "best ways" include near-daily saunas, icing, physiotherapy and a "strict" list of supplements that have passed the scrutiny and scientific merit of Team Canada, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). "I'm doing all the things, trust me," McMorris tells Yahoo Canada. "I feel like to be where I'm at, at the age of 31 in competitive snowboarding, I need to be doing everything I can to get the upper hand. It's a young man's game, to say the least. I'm trying to be young in the best ways I can."

McMorris has been called Canada's snowboarding champion. He is among the most decorated and successful athletes in the history of the sport, with three Olympic medals and a whopping 24 X-Games medals under his belt. McMorris specializes in slopestyle and big air events. His sport requires insane technical ability, athleticism and a considerable degree of fearlessness — he is, after all, launching himself metres in the air to perform tricks.
Professional snowboarding, unsurprisingly, comes with its own set of workplace hazards. McMorris suffered a near-fatal crash in 2017 while snowboarding backcountry near Whistler, BC. The accident involved a mid-air collision with a tree, resulting in a broken jaw, broken left arm, ruptured spleen, stable pelvic fracture, rib fractures and a collapsed left lung. He was placed in a medically induced coma.
"It was a super freak accident," his brother, fellow professional snowboarder Craig McMorris, told CBC Sports. "Mark never makes mistakes, but [in this case] he made just a tiny mistake and went too far to the left … it was awful."
Six months later, the Regina native was back on his snowboard and five months after that, McMorris claimed a bronze medal at the 2018 X-Games.
Post-accident, the 31-year-old focuses "a ton on mobility" and does "a lot of physiotherapy."
"It takes a lot to keep this rig running and running right," he says. "I wake up a little stiffer than I used to, for sure, so prioritizing that is more important than ever. I feel like I need to be on all the time to feel good."
We asked McMorris to share his favourite things that help keep his "rig running right." From his favourite pair of Nike sneakers to high-tech compression pants, here are five things Olympian Mark McMorris is Adding to Cart.
"I put so much into my physical performance and my recovery, but figuring out now that in that recovery column comes skincare, so the Dove Men+Care Body Wash is huge because it's extremely hydrating," McMorris tells Yahoo Canada. "I'm definitely hitting that a few times a day."
Yahoo Canada: "A few times a day? How often do you shower?"
"Two to three at least. It's in everyone's best interest for me to shower 2-3 times a day. I'm a sweaty guy."
"I think as I get a little older, I take better care [of myself] now," he says. "I'm in some pretty harsh climates most of the year [...] so I definitely need to be on it. A lot of wind, a lot of sun. Going through the steps of taking care of my skin has been important."
"I'm a Nike guy," McMorris says. "My favourite Nike shoe...it's ever so changing. I love skating in the Dunk, and then the Metcon in the gym is kind of my go-to. Then I have some hiking shoes and the ACG boots for like, parking lot, you know, when it's slushy or whatever it may be."
What does active recovery look like in the McMorris household? "Massage guns are lying around, foam rollers and lying around, and then Normatec pants for sure," the 31-year-old tells Yahoo Canada. "It's a good way to relax: flush the legs, compression, all that, and then ice, too, to bring down inflammation," he says.
"I'm a big backer of the compression legs. I definitely travel everywhere with my Normatec."
As for supplements, "I pretty much [take] all Thorne products," McMorris tells Yahoo Canada. "[Vitamin] D, zinc, I take a lot of their Catalyte, which is like an electrolyte."
"When it comes to supplements and protein and all that, we use those kinds of companies because they need to be approved by the World Anti-Doping Agency, so you gotta be careful if you're eating some random bar or where you're getting your protein from. It's a pretty strict list, honestly. The IOC does not mess around."
"I use the Apple AirPod Pros. I usually snowboard with one in as well and I kind of go back between competing with music or without music," McMorris says. "Usually when I'm warming up or practicing, I have one in for sure."

SuperMotocross, Monster Energy extend sponsorship through 2030, includes playoffs
Monster Energy has renewed its agreement with Feld Motor Sports' American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Supercross Championship for an additional five years, running through 2030. In addition, they will become the title sponsor of the entire SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) series. According to Adam Stern, the deal is in the mid-eight-figure range in total revenue for the league during the contracted period. The SMX League combines points from Supercross and the AMA Pro Motocross series, encompassing 28 regular-season rounds of competition. The three-round playoffs bring the total to 31 rounds. Negotiations for the extension were held between the two companies, with Feld Motor Sports VP/Global Partnerships Dave Muye leading the effort for the series. During the 2025 Supercross season, 828,796 spectators attended events, including more than 329,000 who participated in the popular pre-race FanFest activities, where companies like Monster Energy had the opportunity to engage directly with fans. Bedard, Celebrini among those invited to Canadian men's Olympic hockey camp
The past, present and future of Canadian men's hockey will meet at a Hockey Canada national team orientation camp in Calgary later this month. Young stars Connor Bedard (Chicago Blackhawks) and Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks) will join Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) and Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), who have already been named to the Canadian men's Olympic team, for three days of off-ice meetings, team building and presentations. Much was made about Bedard's omission from the 4 Nations Face-Off team earlier this year after a difficult season with the Blackhawks. But both Bedard and Celebrini, who starred alongside Crosby at the world championship this past spring, will have a chance to prove they belong at the Olympics. They're four of 42 NHL players invited to the camp, and will be joined by players vying to make the Canadian women's and Para hockey teams that will compete for gold in Milano Cortina in February. "While the next several months will bring intense evaluation and difficult roster decisions, we look forward to kicking off the season in Calgary and giving our athletes and staff a chance to come together and start to become one team as we set our sights on February," Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada's senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, said in a statement. The first six players on the men's team were named in June: Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon, Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche), Brayden Point (Tampa Bay Lightning) and back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Sam Reinhart (Florida Panthers). Four other Panthers are competing to join Reinhart on the Olympic team: defenceman Aaron Ekblad and forwards Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand and Carter Verhaeghe. Every player who won at the 4 Nations Face-Off was invited back. Canada looks set in goal NHL players haven't appeared at an Olympic Games since 2014 in Sochi, and only three players invited to Hockey Canada's August camp have an Olympic gold medal to their names: Crosby, John Tavares (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Drew Doughty (Los Angeles Kings). Nineteen players on the camp list are Stanley Cup champions, while 12 have won world championship gold medals. Only three goaltenders were named to Hockey Canada's roster, suggesting the team is set in net. They include St. Louis Blues starter Jordan Binnington, who backstopped Canada to a 4 Nations Face-Off win over the United States earlier this year. He'll be joined by Adin Hill (Vegas Golden Knights) and Sam Montembeault (Montreal Canadiens), who were also part of the 4 Nations Face-Off team. On the blue line, young, puck-moving defencemen like Noah Dobson (Montreal Canadiens) and Evan Bouchard (Edmonton Oilers) are in the mix, competing against veterans like Doughty and Ekblad. Makar is the only defenceman who's been named to the team so far. His long-time D-partner in Colorado, Devon Toews, seems likely to make the team beside him, while McDavid's linemate on the Oilers, Zach Hyman, could provide some built-in chemistry during a short tournament. Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki, and Edmonton Oilers forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman are among the players fighting for a spot on the team at forward. The players were selected by a leadership group that includes GM Doug Armstrong, assistant GMs Julien BriseBois, Jim Nill and Don Sweeney, director of player personnel Kyle Dubas, head coach Jon Cooper and Ryan Getzlaf, who's a player relations advisor with the team. The men's team opens its Olympic tournament against the Czech Republic on Feb. 12. The gold medal game will be on Feb. 22. Para camp roster named Twenty men have also been selected to attend camps and events with the Para hockey program, as the squad looks to avenge a gold-medal game loss to the U.S. in 2022. The three goaltenders, six defencemen and 11 forwards include nine players who earned silver at the 2022 Paralympics, and 16 who won gold at the 2024 World Para Hockey Championship in Calgary. That includes captain Tyler McGregor, who will be looking for his first gold medal after two silver and a bronze at the Paralympics, as well as Liam Hickey and Dominic Cozzolino, who led Canada in scoring at the 2025 World Para Hockey Championship, where Canada finished second to the U.S. Three goaltenders (Corbin Watson, Adam Kingsmill and Jean-François Huneault) round out the camp roster. The Paralympic Games in Milano Cortina begin on March 6 and run through March 15.

Saskatchewan Roughriders visit Montreal Alouettes in clash of CFL heavyweights
MONTREAL — The top two teams in the CFL standings don't have a lot in common — except for the fact they just keep finding ways to win. The 6-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders will visit the 5-2 Montreal Alouettes on Saturday in a clash between two teams riding win streaks and finding success in very different ways. As such, it should come as no surprise that there was plenty of high praise to go around from either side leading up to the matchup. 'They're physical up front, for sure,' said Alouettes head coach Jason Maas. 'I think they tackle extremely well in the secondary as well. I think they are a physical group, and they play with a lot of confidence. They fly around. You've got to really protect the ball against them, but I think it starts up front for them.' 'They're well-coached, obviously,' countered Roughriders head coach Corey Mace. 'They try to take away things that teams are really good at. They're fast as ever, they're relentless to the football. "They do a good job causing turnovers and causing confusion. They've got enough guys in the back end that can cover a lot of ground as well. They do a good job.' Both teams come in on two-game winning streaks. Montreal pulled off comeback wins over Toronto and Calgary, despite holding the lead for just 6:38 across both games combined. Saskatchewan, meanwhile, bounced back from its only loss of the season — a 33-31 setback against Calgary on July 12 — with narrow wins over B.C. and Edmonton. Five of the Riders' six victories have come by seven points or fewer. Saskatchewan will be without standout receiver Samuel Emilus on Saturday. The Montreal native was placed on the six-game injured list after suffering a knee injury late in last week's win over the Elks. He will be replaced by 26-year-old Canadian slotback Tommy Nield, who is making his first start of the season after missing the first six games with an ankle injury. Montreal will once again turn to veteran quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson on Saturday in the absence of starting pivot Davis Alexander. The 37-year-old picked up his first win in three starts with Montreal last week, completing 30 of 40 passes for 280 yards and a touchdown in his team's 23-21 win over the Stampeders. 'My confidence gets better with each rep,' said Bethel-Thompson. 'It's just about doing the little things right. With each rep, I feel more comfortable, and hopefully that shows Saturday night.' Meanwhile, the Alouettes' defence, which has surrendered the fewest yards per game (321.4) and second-fewest points (158) across the league this season, will welcome back a familiar face in defensive end Shawn Lemon on Saturday. Lemon played parts of the last two seasons with Montreal, helping the team to a Grey Cup championship in 2023. The 36-year-old was suspended indefinitely in April 2024 for gambling on league games while with Calgary in 2021, including one game in which he played. Lemon also served a two-game suspension after testing positive for the banned stimulant phentermine, an appetite suppressant. After being reinstated last month, the veteran signed a contract with the Alouettes through the remainder of the 2025 season. Maas praised Lemon's fitness level, vowing to use him in 'his fair share of plays' throughout Saturday's contest. 'It's good to have him back,' added Alouettes defensive lineman Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund, who played with Lemon in both Calgary and Montreal. 'It's always next man up here, so just to get another veteran presence is awesome. You know what he can do on the field, and it's just going to help us tenfold.' Montreal will be without wide receivers Austin Mack and Tyson Philpot, who are out with ankle and knee injuries, respectively. The Alouettes have won their last three games against Saskatchewan and four straight at home against the Roughriders dating back to 2021. 'I wish I knew,' Mace said when asked about the challenge of playing in Montreal. 'They've got a really good atmosphere. Their fanbase comes out.
